New 2021 M1 iPad Pro Unboxing 12.9" - 2 TB Space Gray

Good day folks, my name is Sean, and this is air photography today we're just going to be doing a very simple, unboxing and setup of the new iPad Pro. This is the new one with the m1 processor apple announced it back in April. They put pre-sales up at the end of April, and it was about a three-week waiting period. To have them shipped today is may the 21st and that's the day that they are being released. If you go to order one online right now, there is quite a waiting period. I believe the ship times have slipped all the way into July.

However, being today is release day, a lot of stores did get some limited stock. So if you do want one your best to try that option first, I imagine by tomorrow a lot of the in-store stock will be sold out. So it's not something you should hesitate. If you do want one so anyways we'll just get right into it. Here we're going to talk about uh, the one I purchased.

Why I purchased it and some new features. This is the space gray. I always get space gray, it's my favorite uh design. Now this year I did decide to go with a two terabyte model. I know it's a little overkill, but I'll kind of get into the.

Why I went with two terabytes coming up here. You can see on the back of the box here, iPad Pro 12.9 inch, fifth generation Wi-Fi and two terabytes of storage. Now the reason I decided to go with the two terabyte option is pretty simple: for those of you who are regular to my channel. You know that I am a 100 mobile editor. I edit everything on my iPad Pro.

That goes for my YouTube: tick, rocks personal stuff and for some clients as well. I very rarely use a laptop nowadays. Of course, there are some tasks that you still have to do on a computer or laptop, but everything I do when it comes to photo editing. Video editing is done in suffusion on the iPad Pro. Let's go ahead here, and we will get into it now going back to the storage for a minute.

The last couple of years I have been using the 2018 model iPad Pro 12.9 inch, I believe, third generation it is and with it, I had 512 gigabytes of storage and for the most part that worked, but I was finding myself running out of storage space and having to transfer stuff back to drives and then back over to the iPad when I needed it, and really it's pretty inconvenient. Sometimes I have a lot of work. Some progress on the go and I just like to keep the files on the iPad for easy access. Instead of having to transfer all the time, especially with cameras now shooting at 5.4 k and higher, you know that storage space gets eaten up pretty quickly. Originally, I was just going to go to the one terabyte model.

I figured that would be enough storage plus when you go up to the one terabyte or two terabytes. You get that extra eight gigabytes of ram for a total of 16 gigabytes, but I thought I would just make the jump to two terabytes and make myself a little future-proof, and that way you know a year down the road or two years down the road. I still have lots of file space to work with, so let's go, and we'll take it out of the box here. So we've got the iPad here and really for the most part, it does look identical, and we'll open that up here in a second take a look at the accessories. We have our literature and, of course our apple stickers didn't want to come out of the box there.

Then, of course, we have our charger and our USB to USB charging cable, so we'll go ahead, and we'll take it out of the protective wrapping here there we go there, that's the space gray and of course, we still have that nice camera set up with LIDAR, and I'm going to do a quick setup. Just with my other iPad, I'm not going to transfer all my files over because that will take quite some time, and then we're going to talk a little more about it and some new features and why I was really excited about this iPad. So, let's go ahead, and we'll get things set up, select Canada, so we'll hit continue, we'll line up that graphic there. We go there now a couple fascinating things why? I am excited about this new iPad Pro, obviously because of the m1 processor, it's going to be blazing fast, got a lot more memory. If you get the one terabyte or 2 terabyte model, you get 16 gigabytes of ram and that's compared to six gigabytes with the fourth generation and only four gigabytes with the 2018 model, which is the one I'm using.

So it's quite the performance boost. Now you also get a thunderbolt port. Now it's USB, so you can still charge it up, and it's still compatible with all your USB accessories. But for me why I am happy about that is now in suffusion. If you use suffusion to edit video as long as you have one of the faster drives, the ones that support 1050, megabit transfer rate, I do believe, then you can now edit right off your hard drive.

You don't have to copy it over or suffusion won't copy it over first. So that's going to offer a huge amount of space savings as well now face ID I'll just set up later. Another nice new feature is the new front-facing. Camera has a feature called center stage. Basically, when you're in things like FaceTime, the camera will follow.

You around it'll even get wider. If two people come into frame or if you happen to move off center, the camera will follow you and keep you in center frame. So it's all set up now, we've transferred all the basic settings over. Like I mentioned, I will go ahead and do a full restore once I'm done this video, because it will take about three hours to transfer everything over now other than the new m1 processor. That's inside the iPad Pro another big selling point why I think a lot of people will be switching over to the 12.9 inch is its new liquid retina Dr display it now uses mini LEDs and with that you're able to get a thousand nits of continuous brightness, and you can also get peak brightness of 1600 nits when viewing and editing HDR. Now I've already gone ahead and transferred over a few HDR clips that I shot this morning in my back garden.

Now, you're not going to be able to see this because I'm just going to be uploading it to YouTube in a nonuser format. But if you have something like the iPhone 12 Pro, you know just how great that HDR is and uh yeah, that's actually pretty impressive. You can see the screen brighten right up soon, as you launch a HDR clip. So that's going to be really nice for editing HDR in something like lumafusion now supports HDR editing. Now I just want to mention the Dr display is only available for the 12.9-inch iPad. Pro they've left it out of the 11 inch.

But if you do want that extreme brightness, and you want the Dr display, you will have to go to the 12.9 inch version, so yeah, I'm pretty excited about it. Like I said this is just an unboxing, I'm going to be making some other different demonstration videos we're going to be comparing it to the old one. We're going to do some test renders, in suffusion we're going to do some file, transferring tests to see the different speed differences of different drives and with the new thunderbolt port, we're going to see how that makes a difference as well. Now, really, the only limiting factor to this new iPad Pro is really the operating system. Ios have been getting a lot better when it comes to mobile processing and different things you can do with it, especially when apple separated the two operating systems iOS and now iPadOS, I'm really hoping this year at WWDC apple introduced some really nice new features for the iPad.

Pro I'd like to see better file management, something even as simple as a progress bar when transferring files over would be wonderful. I don't know why they haven't included that yet and I'd like to see the software a little more powerful for people who want to use it full time like a computer. After all, with the speed of the m1 processor, the 16 gigabytes of memory. Basically, we have the specs of the new m1 MacBook Pro that was launched. Last fall right now, as mentioned, the only difference is, is the operating system.

Now before I go quickly here, I'm just going to test out the magic keyboard. What's interesting about this, if you're not quite aware, is the new iPad. Pro 12.9 inch is half a millimeter thicker. You wouldn't think that's very much, but it's enough that apple made the original magic keyboard not compatible. It's listed as not compatible.

Now the hardware and the functionality is fully compatible. It's basically just the fit just because of that little of extra thickness apple has deemed it not compatible. They actually have a new version for the 5th generation iPad Pro. So I just want to see how well it does fit while it's closed, because Apple did say that, yes, you can use it, but the way it fits when closed is not optimal. Now, personally, I don't see any issue at all.

So to me, they're closed just fine. I don't actually have a problem with that at all. If you do have last year's magic keyboard, and you are thinking about upgrading to the uh to the new iPad Pro um yeah, I personally don't see any issue there at all, but for whatever reason apple says it doesn't fit a hundred percent um. So keep that in mind. So that's basically it for this video, like I said, just a quick unboxing now, if you are interested in this new iPad, you may be planning on purchasing one make sure you stick around, as I will be uploading different videos about it coming up here shortly, like I said, we're going to test out some different drives, we're going to do some transfer, speed, different, render speed tests, and we're going to see what it's all about and how it performs.

I want to thank you for watching this video. Hopefully you enjoyed it and got some value out of it. Give it a thumbs up. If you did don't forget to subscribe to my channel, so you don't miss any of our upcoming videos, and we'll see in the next one. You.
