HTC Wildfire review - English Subtitles By Gianni Carfagno

SEMI-AUTOMATED TRANSLATION - The new smartphone Android 2.1 is characterized by three fundamental aspects. First, the price and the target. The device will be in stores by the end of summer, with a very attractive price: less than 300 Euro. The second feature is the strong orientation to social networking included by High Tech Computer in its younger smartphone. The "social" nature manifests itself through two applications on which we will discuss later: Friend Stream and App Share. The third HTC Wildfire distinctive feature is the strong, very strong resemblance to HTC Desire.

Let's see them side by side. Compared to HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire features a CPU clock rate not so extreme. However, as we have checked during these first tests, the device is fast and powerful even when subject to considerable workload. However HTC Wildfire is far more compact than its big brother, who already have a very pocketable form factor. The size reduction was made possible by the adoption of QVGA 3.2-inch diagonal, lower than in the Desire; thanks to the lower diagonal, the Wildfire display has good image definition. Wildfire also have the optical mouse of the Desire, while the main panel, with touch-sensitive keys, refers to that which we had already met with HTC HD Mini, (based on Windows Mobile).

We mentioned the strong attention to social networkig. This is due to the proprietary program, preinstalled on Wildfire, called FriendStream. All posts are immediately transferred to Twitter and Facebook. Another interesting application is called app sharing. With some taps in HTC Sense you can share third-party programs tested on Wildfire, to suggest them to friends and hear about their opinion.

The Web browsing experience is very similar to that experienced with HTC Desire. The native browser is efficient and, as in Desire and Legend, is compatible with Flash technology. So you can view movies from Youtube and other video sharing websites. The responsiveness of the browser, in downloading and page rendering, is at the highest level. But the display resolution, and the lower diagonal of the monitor, offer a less open perspective on the World Wide Web.

Anyway, the HTML client for Android 2.1 is certainly one the best in the world of pocket technology.
