Lenovo Yoga 2 11 Review By MobileTechReview

This is Lisa from Bubble tech review, and it's yoga time again this time we're looking at the Lenovo yoga ? 11 inches. We just looked at the 13-inch recently, obviously well, this one's 11 inch 11.6 inches, also even more affordable. This model is available at Best Buy for $4.99, and it does all yoga thing just like you would expect use it flat, use it in 10 modes, use it in presentation mode use it like a laptop we're gonna, look at it now so here it is the latest generation Lenovo yoga, ? 11. Now the yoga and the 11-inch form has gone through a lot of change. The first yoga 11 was actually a Windows RT machine and then, when they moved over to core I series, the Y's series, Intel Core, CPUs and now for this generation, the latest generation. Being the yoga ? pay attention to that ? number.

If you're shopping around because you're going to find all of these for sale, probably at certain outlets. This one here is available with either a Pentium or a seller on CPU, mostly the Pentium. You remember the Pentium name yeah. It sounds a little dated because well it intel was trying to find a way to position the CPU it's somewhere above the atom CPU, and then it wanted the connotation of atom. Obviously, it's not an atom architecture, and it's a bit faster, but it's not as fast as a core I CPU, but it's not too bad either, and we'd have seen this used before and the likes of the Sony View tap 11.

They are coupled with a nice SSD drive, so it made it feel quicker. This guy is a conventional spinning, two-and-a-half inch hard drive inside SATA interface, it's the real short height 5 millimeter drive inside so a little less of a speed boost there. So when you use it, it takes a while to boot up windows compared to your average SSD laptop and once you get it running, applications will take a little longer to launch again a lot of that has to do with the hard drive and the CPU. It may not be the sharpest knife in the box, but it's not bad. It's a quad-core now Lenovo on their website is taken to actually closing the CPU speed as the buy the turboboost speed.

That's not fair! The base clock speed. Oh, this is 2.1 gigahertz. This is the Intel Pentium and 35 20, and it is a quad-core CPU, so not too bad for those who are just getting this or productivity, you don't want to be doing. HD, Full, HD video, editing a serious Photoshop all day long most people were getting 11.6 in inch. Machine are not looking for that.

Then it's going to be fine. The RAM on this is 13 33 megahertz versus 1600 megahertz that you'll see on core i5 machines, for example i3 i7, and it is not upgradable. So it comes with 4 gigs and that's what it is. It's soldered on board, so we'll show you a picture of the internals right now. So you can see.

What's going on inside does have an upgradable, hard drive. The wireless card is pocketed and if you do open it up, there are teeny torques, t-50 mice. All you have to do is unscrew them nothing tricky there. Then you can take off the cover and replace those items if you wish to again Rama solder on board. Here, though, this is glorious black plastic.

One thing about the yoga stories: I think that made it popular- and it probably is one of the most popular windows, 8, convertibles and Windows 8 first came out. I was talking about sales were lagging on, people wrote maybe a little leery to adopt, but Lenovo did really great with the yoga series in part because of the great young going yoking design where you can use it in so many modes, and also because it looked darn good for the price and now kind of Lenovo's dialing back on the looks a little. Even the yoga2pro is a little less exciting. Looking losing that soft touch finish here and the contrasting colors it was the hallmark of that book. Like design.

Hmm, you know it's a little boring. You can get this in Clementine Orange. If you want to jazz it up a little pretty much you're looking at black plastic bottom here, stereo speakers, it says Dolby home theater for software. Obviously robust hinges here notice. There's no fan back here like there is on the bigger yoga.

That's because this is a fan, 'less design, that's one of the benefits of using that Intel Pentium CPU. It doesn't generate a super-duper lot of heat there, so you can go finless. So for those of you who just hate, noise and I, know you're out there you're going to like that. In fact, the if you took a look at our photo of the internals of this you'll notice, there's actually a cutout in the motherboard, where a fan could go kind of circular area, I, probably left over from when they made this in a core I'm version. The motherboard overall architecture hasn't gotten changed a lot.

Interesting then fairly thin. It's not super-duper light. Given that it's 11.6 inches, it is 2.8 pounds. Of course, the whole yoga design and the robust hinges do add some weight. You can see on the side here we have our USB 2.0 port, you 2.0 combo, mic headphone jack volume, controls on the side, rotation lock, also our power button, and that's the Lenovo assist button in case you get yourself into some hot water, the, but the computer, and you need some software restore driver reinstallation. That kind of thing the controls are on the side here to make it easier to access when it's in tablet mode, so you don't have to open up and reach for the keyboard itself.

Others are a little less going on here. Here's our thank God. There is a USB 3.0 port, you don't worry folks, rectangular style, and although charging connectors comes with the usual Lenovo compact, brick charger SD MMC card slot right there and our micro HDMI port, so decent number of ports for a small machine use, you don't see a lot of ports on board there. It feels well-made it feels sturdy. It may not be the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen, but it does feel like it'll hold up pretty well does show fingerprint is probably the orange one.

Does it a little less and, of course, since it's a yoga, you can open it up, fly and use it that way, you can use it in tent mode, like so, and you're going to hear it making all sorts of big bucks. That's because Lenovo has loaded some software on this. That tries to tell you what apps you might want to download that would be useful in a given display orientation. It made me just want to hurt it after a while it really it gets to be very annoying I. Don't really need suggestions about that and once you follow through, and you download something, it won't become a launcher for those apps afterwards.

That's just me, I, don't like it being a yoga again if you're going to use it in tablet mode, say: keys won't be exposed on the bottom. Lenovo doesn't make sleeves in case you don't like that feeling. This is not a lift and lock keyboard like we saw on the ThinkPad Yoga. Nothing so fancy there, despite viewing angles pretty good. This is IPS actually for IPS I've, seen wider viewing angles and that part of what you're seeing right there is obviously some glare.

It's pretty darn good in terms of colors. Well, it's its! Okay! It's certainly acceptable it's about average. It's not stupendous again for something that sells for $4.99. How much can you ask for the display resolution on this is 1366 by 768, which is fair for an 11.6 inch. I know some of you can be like.

Oh my god, it doesn't have a full HD. You know well you're going to use Windows scaling anyway, which is kind of hit or miss with some programs, particularly though BCS programs. So it's an okay resolution. It's pretty sharp. It looks nice for watching movies.

Furthermore, it's not washed out, it's not a TN panel for the money, it's fine! So here's our display color gamma! This is for RGB 71 percent. Again, that's that's not bad! It's just not great the better displays. Even the yoga 2 13 inches hit 95 to 99 percent, so it still has nice colors movies and photos to look nice on it. But for those of you who are into serious photo editing or video, editing and really care about color accuracy, this probably won't be the display that makes your day here's our adobe RGB, which is 54% now. The good news right here is the brightness level 371, it's a brightness of.

Obviously this with auto brightness turned off that's brighter than average, that's certainly brighter than the yoga ? 13-inch and many Ultrabooks on the markets up in a way. This is a very practical machine being small, you might take it anywhere, you might even take it outdoors. You need brightness more than you need superb color accuracy and that's what you're getting right here contrast ratio is quite good at seven hundred to one black levels are decent at 0.53 in terms of Delta II. This is not a wildly well calibrated and color accurate display. You can calibrate it to improve that, but again for those of you who are picky folks, those of you who work professionally editing images or video.

Those are the ones who couldn't care about that. Obviously this runs Windows, 8.1 and 8.1, with our new Start menu right there. At the bottom home button, physical click not haptic on this one like it is on the 13-inch model, and this is full windows 64-bit. This is a 64-bit CPU inside as well, so this is not arty. This is the full deal.

This can run all Windows programs that you want in Photoshop. You can try running left for debit honest-to-goodness, given this is a Pentium with just Intel HD graphics. This does not really have the brains for that kind of job, and particularly it doesn't have the graphics for much gaming. You can play casual games, you can play solitaire and some Windows Store games that you can get, which are meant to run pretty much any kind of hardware. But this is not a gaming machine now for size comparison.

We have the yoga ? 11 inches on top of the new yoga ? 13 inches on the bottom, actually not a wild difference in size, 2.8 pounds versus of phones, three point: three pounds: 3.2. It depends on the configuration that you get with yoga 13 as to how much it's going to weigh some a little difference in weight there, but really not a lot of science difference. So those of you who are thinking the 11 inch would be so much more wildly portable than the 13 inch as you can see not so much the case, they're really. What the big difference here is in the cost savings about 400 dollars, difference between the two of these, depending on where you buy, maybe $300 or so, and more speed on the 13 inch, because you get full core i5 processor inside their terms of thickness on the side, not so different, either. On the back.

The most noticeable difference is. We have fan grille here on the 13-inch because it does have a fan and the little 11-inch guy, as we said, does not have a fan. Keyboard, obviously, is going to be a little compromised by the size. Eleven point six inches means well that can be 15 inches or 13 inches. Even typing experience there.

They do bring out the keyboard fairly close to the edges. This is Lenovo ZAC, you type keyboard with the smile shaped keys, so some good ergonomics there. The one thing that's pretty challenging here is in the name of making this fairly thin. There's not a lot of key travel on this Lenovo. His reputation, we're making excellent keyboards, particularly on the ThinkPad models, but even some idea pads are pretty good but as they make these guys skinnier, we get less and less key travels.

So if we look at it from the side here, you can see how much movement there is. There's some, and it's nice, it's not too clacking a keyboard. You can probably hear a little of a set, so it's nice damped keys, but not a wild long, cello I felt things that are even more punishing to type on honestly, it's not that bad. There is a bit of trampoline in here a little of flex. It's not awful.

You can probably barely see it, but there's a little of movement here. I think most people won't mind it. What I do like is this enough: synaptic, strap and relatively speaking, for the size of machine. It's pretty large. It behaves quite nicely.

Furthermore, it's easy to use slightly different texture than here, not much, but since you have the defined Ridge here, you're going to feel, if you happen to wander off of it, and it supports multi-touch gestures swipe in for the charms and all those usual things and, of course, like all yoga's. The keyboard is this: when you're using it in tablet mode like this, so you can hold it like that and play with the keys to your heart's content and nothing happens on the front and for those who are really new to Windows 88.1, you don't know how it works if you're using it in this mode and the keyboard is disabled. You have the big on-screen keyboard here so easy enough, and we're using the Metro version of i. e. Of course, you can use desktop version of i.

e. if you want, but we're just going to check out web browsing pinch zooming all that stuff works in IE, well support it, and we're going to watch a video review, so you can see how it looks and how the speaker sound, so we'll check out our video review of the HP specter 13. You can hear the speakers which are pretty darn good for a small device, I'll bring it up to 720p to better suit the display size looks good, sounds good. Does the job also fine for Netflix Hulu, Plus, all those kinds of streaming services and obviously locally stored video, since this is not full HD, there's not much point in playing Full HD media on this, unless you're using that HDMI out port in terms of synthetic benchmarks, our Intel Pentium n in 35 20 managed PC mark 7 score of 13 87. That's about one third of the speed you see on the average Core i5 Ultrabook, with an SSD drive now switching to an SSD drive, which is not an option direct from Lenovo, but that would certainly speed up the PC Mark 7 number because it just likes fast hard to the hard drives or SSDs.

Really, that's that's part of what it's benchmarking and the challenges. This is a pretty skinny SATA two and a half inch drive. So it may be hard to find out a rod that will fit in there, but that would be kind of a neat way of hot-rodding this. In a way really, the CPU is pretty adequate for everyday use, but I do find the hard drive a little sluggish. It doesn't have a caching drive in here, so it's just a straight 5400 rpm, 500 gig hard drive.

The good news is, you do have a lot of storage space there for those you want to carry around big media library a lot of photos, video whatever it is. You're going to have the space here on four w, prime. It computed PI in twenty-six point: eight seconds: that's not bad! We've seen core i's generally, do it in twenty-three seconds. So that's not a wild difference there. It did well with them Geek bench three sixty four-bit tests, 995 single core multi court 3291.

So again, that's that's lower than you're going to see with a core i5 considerably, but it's its fast enough for everyday productivity use. Honestly, it is, and for playing video inside and I mean underneath this bottom cover that you have to take out the Torn screws. If you want to get to it. So yes, you can. If you have to, there is a four cell 34 watt hour, 4600 William battery Lenovo says up to six hours on a charge and in our test we did a little better than five hours in mixed use, with the brightness set at 50% and that's a combo of web browsing and doing email, social networking streaming an hour from Netflix.

You get the idea attending some photos. If you're going to be playing games all the time, you're going to get a shorter amount battery light, if you're just going to be sitting there doing more processing, and where do you just get longer? In fact, you probably will inside we have single band Wi-Fi 802 and a thorough squall comm a throw makes the adapter in here and that has combo with Bluetooth 4.0, that's a socket and card. So if you want to upgrade you can't, the Lenovo is known to have only allowable white list of wireless card, so you might want to check to see which are allowable somebody yeah yoga 211 inches for well it's for those of you who want something classier than the netbook sling faster than a netbook, something that has a better despite the most netbooks which some pretty mediocre to putrid displays on the monastic. You're going to pay more than a very cheap netbook on here, but it's still in at $4.99 to $$5.995.99. If you get it from Lenovo's website, you get a pretty solid machine here, literally solid in terms of build quality.

It's pretty darn durable and may not be exciting looking, but it is and if you need just to do everyday productivity tasks, your word your excel your email, your web-based applications. That kind of thing it's perfectly fine for that this is not for gamers. This is not for you, folks who are want to be videographers on the go. Obviously it doesn't have that kind of horsepower, but it's not priced the way machines are that do have that kind of horsepower. There is no digital pen option, though Wake ham or entering digitizer.

Here you could use a capacitive stylus with it, which would be about as much fun as doing that iPad, which means not really very precise and no pressure sensitivity, so not so much for the art crowd either, really just for you everyday people who need something pretty portable, pretty light, and it gets the basic tasks done. So that's the Lenovo yoga ? 11 inches again it's available now, if you're getting it at best, 5 here in the United States $4.99, if you're looking at Lenovo's website about $100, more I can give or take and if you're looking for a travel buddy that says smarter than the average netbook, but it costs a lot less than a full size.
