iPhone XS Review

With, the iPhone 10, Apple brought the thrill back to the iPhone. Can the new iPhone XS maintain the momentum with the brand new a12, Bionic processor, new camera features and a new max size model? The iPhone XS is a significant follow-up that will keep the iPhone in the spotlight. If you have an older iPhone it's time to upgrade this time. There are two new models of the iPhone. The XS is the same size as the last year's iPhone XS, with a 5.8 inch Super Retina display the new iPhone XS Max takes that display and blows it up to a whopping 6.5 inches that fills up the whole front of the phone. Both of the new phones use the same display technology as the iPhone X, so colors are rich text, looks clean and sharp, and the black is very deep.

The iPhone XS max is similar in size as the iPhone 8 plus, but the XS max has no bezel or home button, so the front is all screen, and it's Apple's, most impressive, looking iPhone. Yet at the heart of the new iPhone is an a12 Bionic processor in our Geek bench for testing. We saw a 13% improvement, which is pretty close to the 15% speed boost. Apple says you can get over the iPhone X when using the iPhone XS. Turning on the phone scrolling, opening, apps and other things feel just as fast as the iPhone X, if not a tad snappier.

The cameras are a major part of the iPhone XS and the back camera hardware has a 12 megapixel sensor, but now that pixels are larger and according to Apple deeper also, the wide lens is a tad wider than before the software that Apple uses to process. Your photos have undergone some changes too, most notably it's more aggressive about getting rid of camera noise, and you can really notice this in low-light photos. Not only are there fewer noise artifacts, but the detail is a lot sharper. There's also a new feature called death control which works with the iPhones portrait mode and allows you to adjust the amount of background blur. You can make the background more in focus or more blurry helping you get the look you want using the right amount of background blur can make your pictures look even more dramatic.

As for the rest of the phone, what was introduced in the iPhone 10 is still with the iPhone XS face ID the to death, camera notch and all glass design and support for wireless charging. Even the bat camera bump is still there but be warned. The bump on the iPhone XS is slightly different from the one on the iPhone XS, there's enough of a difference that some iPhone X cases won't fit on the iPhone XS. So who should get the new iPhone XS? If you have an iPhone, 8, 7 or older, we encourage you to upgrade you'll appreciate the jumper performance and nicer screens and the cameras. If you have an iPhone tab, we think you'll be happy with the new XS, but since the X has a lot of the same features, we wouldn't blame you if you wanted to wait until next year and if cost is a concern, wait until later this month to see what the new iPhone XR is like.

In any case, the iPhone XS and 10S Max are worthy successors to the iPhone X, with features that will make anyone happy.
