iPhone XS Max: Unboxing & First Impressions (Display Quality)

Hey everybody: this is Erica the technology nerd likes to film stuff in it is iPhone unboxing day, but before we get into unboxing these guys here, I wanted to notify you all of a giveaway that I have going on. So myself, Brian, Tong and Andrew Edwards have teamed up to give away an iPhone 10s and an iPhone 10 R. So please check out the video up here. If you want to see how to enter, I will also link it in the description below. So again we are giving away a 10 s and a 10 R and the giveaway will run through the 5th of October. So don't miss it.

Okay. So now, let's rip these guys open. As you can see here, I've got a gaggle of phones. These are all the iPhone 10s max and I got three for a very good reason. I just wanted to be able to compare the screens, especially because I hear that LG is manufacturing the panels on either all of them or some of them and in recent memory, all I have to say is LG, be 30 and the pixel 2, XL and you'll see why I'm concerned Apple has very stringent quality standards, so I'm hoping that, even if it is an LG display, we won't know it'll, look just as good as the Samsung, but I just don't want to see a lottery happen where it's like.

Oh, the Samsung is totally better. You know that type of thing, so hopefully, with three it'll, give me a better chance to point out any differences. If there are any now I, don't even want to think about how much money is here on the desk, don't even want to know so. We've got to space graze and in hindsight it would have been smart to have a space gray, a silver and a gold I've got the gold here as well. Didn't think about that I just really wanted to grab what I could in order to look at the displays.

And finally, the gold ones I'm really curious about the gold I, don't know if I'm going to like it classically I, really like gold phones, okay, so we've just got documentation designed by Apple in California stickers and such and listen to this yeah, oh yeah and then last but not least so nice and then just to get it out of the way. Let's see what else is in the box, so we got this cheapo little charging brick, which really is an insult. Adding insult to injury of the price does not charge the phone very fast, and then we've got also our earbuds you'll notice that there is no adapter here now for your headphones as pure, cheap and out, if I've ever heard it, and then we've got our lightning cable, that's it! So what do I think about this gold color here well I'm happy to say that this really is the most neutral, looking gold that Apple has made so far here we have the iPhone 8 plus side by side, for example. This is a very bushy looking. Gold has a bit of a pink to it, plus.

When you look at the bands, we've got this matte finish here where this is a really classy looking gold. It reminds me of a gold ring. That's what this really reminds me of on the band extremely fingerprint II immediately, and then we have this more yellowish gold of the past. I think this is an iPhone 6s plus, so it kind of gives you an idea it's. This is an interesting color, though, because I noticed that, when warmth hits it kind of gives off a coppery vibe, so I like it, I do.

What strikes me with this color is that between all the colors that were released, this one actually looks as expensive as it is so that gold band in the coppery looking goldfish back, really use this classy expensiveness. So if that's the vibe that you want to give off in public then go for this one I still don't know. If I choose this or the space gray, though it really just depends on which one has the best screen for me and then peeking its eyes, you can see that the iPhone tennis max that's a terrible name. The iPhone tennis max really looks the same as the iPhone. Eight plus I wouldn't know any different really, except for I paid attention to the camera until you flip it over, and then it's a whole different ballgame you've got that six point five inch display.

Actually, let's go ahead and turn all these on and just as a little of a side note I did not get an iPhone, 10s I didn't think it was necessary. So this is the stand-in for the iPhone 10s. So you can see the size difference here, especially with my teeny little hands. This was the perfect size phone. This has gotten into the iPhone 8 plus territory.

Now, oh well, alright. Turning all on now I'm hoping I can see immediate differences in the screens. Now. The first thing that I can tell from all of them is that when you tilt them it does change color. Quite a bit, so it'll look cooler at the top or at the bottom, her warmer when you move it around a bit on white.

Hopefully that won't be really distracting happened on the iPhone 10, but it wasn't too bad. Okay, so after I turned on the phone's actually left for a little and I sat in the dark for a while and just really looked at these screens, and what I can say is that yeah they all color shift a little. One of them is more extreme than the others and that it shifts more blueish, but they all shift. What I actually came to find is that I'm actually pretty darn impressed with how similar all of these displays look. They all look very similarly calibrated the colors look very, very similar I can't even tell a difference.

They're white points look the same to me, which is a shock considering all the variations I see with Samsung's displays with white I was even pleased to see that they do not have a lot of black clipping. This is the best calibration that I've seen in the dark end of the grayscale I. Can see all the way down to about two and also as a final test I put gray image on these screens and I turned up and down the brightness just to see if I could see any graininess in these screens and I can tell you that I can't see any weird, graininess or strange anomalies happening with these displays at all. I am very impressed if these are LG displays, I can't tell I'll let you know more as I find out more so as a wrap up here. What are you getting for the money? Well, you definitely get this bigger display here and that's going to be worth it to a lot of people, including myself, but we've got a better processor.

We've got some camera improvements. The sensor is larger, where the pixels are also larger, but most of the camera improvements are focusing on software improvements. We've got more water resistance. So now it's ip68 we've got faster, face, ID, better speakers, so they should be more matched now in loudness. We've got a larger battery as a result of having a larger display, and we've got dual sim support.

So this is very much an S update, but so far I'm really excited to continue testing this out, I really wasn't convinced until I opened the box and just started playing around with these displays, they're beautiful.
