IPHONE 8 PLUS VS IPHONE 12 PRO MAX (Honest review + size and camera test)

Hi guys this is the ride with Roland. I am Roland, and today I'm going to compare my old iPhone 8 plus against this brand new iPhone 12 Pro max, and is it that much better we're going to find out in this video? Let's jump right into this one hi guys. I hear you guys thinking. Why is there an iPhone review on the motorcycle channel? What I'm going to tell you, because you need your phone on a motorcycle uh navigation. Apps is one a camera to capture all your beautiful adventures, your phone for calling when you're in trouble GPS to let people know where you drove off a cliff again music, while you're riding playing games. While you wait on your slow body, checking the weather, finding a hotel or a campsite or tinder, basically the same checking your bank accounts if you can still fill her up.

So there are many reasons you can see that the phone is actually very important on your motorcycle. So I had this iPhone 8 plus, for I think four years, and it's still working perfect, there's nothing wrong with it. It makes beautiful photos, it makes beautiful videos. Also, it's not slow at all. Actually, it's still a very good phone, so why did I choose for the new iPhone 12 Pro max? Well, basically, it's for YouTube, because the camera is much better.

I don't have this large camera as you see by other YouTubers. I only got my phone and I got a GoPro and GoPro is actually now recording. So I hope it's doing a good job, because I cannot see what is recording, and I hope the lights and everything will be okay, I'm not sure so, but after four years yeah it's time for a new one. I guess- and I heard so many good things about this new iPhone yeah and my camera quality is good. It's not bad, but I think it can do better, especially in low light situations, and, as you can see here, this is very low light.

This is in my studio. The walls are gray, and it's very difficult to film in here. So, let's find out if this iPhone is actually better. So in this box I got the new iPhone 12 Pro MOX. I normally don't like unboxing videos, because I don't understand why people want to see that you're actually opening a box, but for the people who like it, I am gonna.

Do the fastest unboxing video ever in the world box, stop iPhone letters with. Thank you very much for spending that much money iPhone. Look at that here. It is, and voil? uh, so we're a few hours later now um and I installed the iPhone. This is my cat.

It's ready now for use uh. The first thing I want to say is: when I open this iPhone, it says: do we have another iPhone, just put it close to this one, and so I did, and then it transferred all the stuff from one iPhone to the other like this. Well, not really you don't have to touch it, but just the two iPhones together, and then it's asked for a code and then voil?. My iPhone now is exactly the same as my old iPhone wow, I'm very impressed in the old days. You have to do it by the iTunes.

Was it iTunes? You had to do a backup, and it went wrong probably, and you lost all your images, your contacts now. This is amazing, I'm really impressed this is really amazing, so the so far so good. I have found something on the iPhone 12, which I think is amazing. I don't think a lot of people will know about this. It's a little trick.

I will tell you later about it in the video. I was really surprised. This was possible. The first thing. What I noticed is the size and I think a lot of people don't know how big is the iPhone 12 Pro max, comparing to the iPhone 8 plus, I thought it was bigger, but look.

This is the iPhone 8 plus. This is the 12 pro max, and I'm going to put them together. It's like one millimeter they're, exactly the same size exactly so if you have an iPhone, 8, plus, and you're thinking about a new phone, and you're thinking about yeah. Well, the 12 pro max is gonna. Be too big? No, it's not it's the same size.

I didn't know that. I was also looking on YouTube other videos to get an idea of the size, but I couldn't find it. Furthermore, I thought it was bigger, so I'm actually glad it's not the bigger the screen is bigger because and the old iPhone has this black borders, and here we don't have it, so the screen is bigger, but the size of the telephone is actually the same. So my first impressions of this brand new iPhone 12 Pro max holding in my hand, is the missing home button. The iPhone 8 plus has this home button and I had to figure out how to end programs.

I think this is something you get used to, but for now it feels a bit. You know the feel and the edges of the new phone is different from this iPhone 8 plus- and I have to say I have to be honest- the iPhone 8 plus feels better in your hand, because the test is round edges. So if you hold it like, this feels a little better. This is more feels much heavier. Also, it's not a big deal at all, but the iPhone 8 plus feels better.

In your hand than the iPhone 12 Pro max, I think it looks a bit like the old iPhones uh. They had this round straight thing. It is a phone. It's not I'm. Gonna, wait in the street yeah look at my phone.

You know I need to go to a hairdresser by the way, my hair's too long, but yeah corona. You know the story, it's not important, so yeah the looks yeah. Well, it's an iPhone. They all look the same. I cannot really say something useful for them.

This one looks better. It's new one is heavier than the old one, but of course it is because it has more power, more stuff, more everything, 250 grams. I guess I don't know it's a phone. Who cares only thing? What concerns me a little. Is these cameras.

We got three amazing cameras. I guess we're going to find out, but they're sticking out a little, and normally I put my phone on the table. I'm a little worried if this is not going to scratch, I'm not sure if I hope not uh the battery life of this one is better. Of course, I can tell right now the old, iPhone 8 plus this battery is a bit draining fast because I put it every night in a charger whole night. I know now people are going to scream.

You must never do that, but yeah. I do that. So the battery is not that perfect anymore, but it will hold a day, but this one yeah. I think this better is better. I cannot say for sure, because this is a brand-new phone, I'm holding here the speed.

Well, if I scroll to stuff, I don't really feel any different. I have to say I have to be honest, people say no, it's much faster, and probably it is, but I cannot feel it is feels the same to me. I don't play games on the toe. For me, it's difficult to say that the big games are. I bought this iPhone 12 Pro max for the camera.

Not for the rest, I don't care for the rest. The rest was also very good at this one. Actually, the camera on this one from the a-plus is also very good. It's not bad! I'm very curious. If this one is actually much better, I will show you a picture of my cat.

Now I take a picture of my cat with the iPhone 8 plus you tell me if that's a bad photo, it is actually a very good photo. I like it and it's made very easy. I just made a little corrections, not on the computer, just with the phone. You know with sliders a little left or right and so yeah. Well, it is a very good camera, so we're going to find out if this one's better, so to make a comparison test, I'm going to shoot some objects in full light in half light in kind of dark, with both phones, and I'm going to shoot a video also with the same light condition.

So we can see if this is better, I'm not going to do any post-processing in a computer. I normally do that. I correct the colors and that's why I look better than in real. If you think this guy is not looking good, I get to see unreal. That is actually much worse.

So, let's find out if it's actually worth to go from this to this just another thing I noticed this is one thing I was a little disappointed. I have to say when I look at my cat here, and I look at the colors for me, they're very natural, and if I look at this one, I like the colors more on the screen of the iPhone 8 instead of t12- and I don't know what it is- there's some blue color on it. I don't know this looks warmer and let's see if I got the same settings on this for the color yeah, I both put them on true tone and I have to say the iPhone 8 plus has still a better color. Is it me no, it is a better color. I like the screen color more of the uh eight plus.

To be honest, it feels a little weird when you're spending that much money and the old one is looking better. That's weird, I know it's a bit weird. Okay, let's move on, so we're a few days later now and uh, because I shot some videos with the iPhone, and then I found a problem with the new iPhone. There is a problem with the new iPhone. It's not really a problem.

The thing is the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 pro max. They shoot in Dolby Vision, HDR, which is awesome. Here's the thing when I drag the images in Final Cut Pro: that's where I'm working in it is way blown up. It is overexposed and there are a few things I can do about it. I can drag down the levels, the exposure levels, but there's a problem, then I'm comparing footage non-edited versus edited, which is not completely fair.

So what I did is I turned off the HDR because there are more problems with HDR, especially with this one. The Dolby Vision, HDR, is kind of new. It's its a brand new uh, 10-bit HDR and that's nice. The problem is it's not really supported yet. So, if I publish the video, there is a big chance that a lot of people will only see overexposed images.

Oh, I don't want that. I want to go for safe, of course. Ah, this is a bright sun. It's a bright sun, so the best thing I can do is turn off the HDR. So you got a better compromise between the two cameras, the 8 versus the 12.

, I have to say with the HDR on. If you shoot video, it looks so amazing on your screen. It looks really crystal clear, very good, very good, but probably I cannot show it to you guys. I want to show it to you guys, but you need a HDR television who supports it. We need YouTube to support that.

It's also a thing so yeah that's kind of a problem, so I did the 8 versus 12 without the HDR on, so we get a better feel for what the camera can do. So here, I'm filming outside. If you can see the air on the 8 plus, is a little overexposed and the iPhone top pro max is a little sharper. This is with a zoom lens and the iPhone 12 Pro max has a little more zoom. So that's why it's a little closer.

I think the iPhone, 12 or max has a lot more detail. If you, for example, look closely to the leaves, oh here, you can see that the grass has more detail than the iPhone 8 plus both are actually very good. It's not bad, but yeah. I think the iPhone 12 Pro max has a lot more detail. Now, I'm going to try the stabilization, and I'm just walking around and, as you can see, the iPhone 12 Pro max has a much better stabilization and the iPhone 8 plus.

You can definitely see me walking each step and uh in the end, I'm a little running. Well, I'm not running I'm just trying to make big steps so that I've got a lot of shakiness and I think the iPhone 12 Pro max did a very good job here. I take some pictures, but the image sizes are not the same. While it is, I don't know actually but uh yeah. You can see that the colors on the iPhone 12 Pro mac, especially the air, is a better color than the iPhone 8 plus, but both look very good.

When I watch this on my own screen in full screen, I could see a lot more detail. This is in portrait mode on my screen. It is a bit overexposed the iPhone 12 Pro max. However, on the iPhone 8, I don't see the barbed wire the barbed wire just disappeared and with iPhone 12 Pro max, I could see the bar fire also here I took some photos to compare, not side by side, so here you see the view from the bridge, and then you see same photo and with the same lens and iPhone 12 Pro max, and it's definitely way better. The colors are all better.

The clouds are actually very good. This is the same photo, but now I did it with the zoom lens of the iPhone 8 plus, and this is with the zoom lens of the 12 pro max and, as you can see, it zooms a little further. This is actually done with the wide angle lens and to show you what it's doing here is the normal lens and here's again the wide angle lens and, as you can see, it gives an amazing view. This is taken with the iPhone 8 plus this shot. I did with two strong lights behind the microphone, so it's like you're you're photographing against the sun.

Well, it looks kind of good, but here is the photo the same photo on the iPhone 12 Pro max, and you can see it corrects the light, and it also gives the microphone a very good image, but also makes the light not so overexposed. This is with kinda low light, so I dim dot the lights in studio, and this was the portrait mode with the iPhone 8 plus- and here you see the same photo in portrait mode with the 12 pro max and as you can see, it is much clearer and much brighter, even though the light was very, very dim. This is also some kind of different photo because this cup was standing uh behind the windows. So you got a lot of light coming from the windows and this was the important mode with the iPhone 8, and then here you see the iPhone 12 or max. You see a lot more detail in the cup itself.

This photo is actually very difficult to make, because here I got on my recording gear, a blue LED light, and it is way over saturated if you go actually to the photo of the iPhone 10 pro max. You can see actually the details again so here I'm in my studio, just walking around as you can see, also that the iPhone 12 or max has a lot more clarity and the iPhone 8 has a lot more noise. You can see a lot of noise in the corners and with the iPhone 12 Pro max. I almost don't see any noise, so it's very good in low light situation, so this is also a very difficult shot because the motor is standing in a dark environment. While the lights are coming through the windows, as you can see the iPhone 8, it's almost completely dark.

I kind of see it's a motor and on the iPhone 12 Pro max. I can see actually my motor, it's not a good shot, but it can handle it. It was absolutely not a professional gear review. It was my review the difference between those two cameras. The two phones have to say.

I think the iPhone 12 Pro max is in many ways better, especially in low light situations, but the iPhone 8 plus is not bad. If you think this is a huge world of difference. Well, probably, is at some points, especially in low light, but it's not that bad. It's not bad. It's not like this is crap, and this is good.

That's not the case. So if you have an iPhone a plus, and it's still working good well yeah, you can go for the newest, but you all can also stick around for the old one. It's not that bad. For me, I like it. I think this iPhone 12 Pro max is a camera.

I need to figure out how it works, because I'm not using the potential at all. It has I'm just clicking on a photo or just clicking on the video, I'm not doing anything with all the options you have. I just want to see how it's raw from the camera, without anything, if you tweak it a little where you can get amazing pictures. Amazing pictures and I saw some tech reviews of the iPhone 12 Pro max. Actually those were professional reviews, and then you saw yeah some kind of really, really amazing stuff.

So I'm 100 sure I'm going to be happy with this new phone. But, like I said before this, the iPhone 8 bus is not a bad phone. This one you can buy for 300 euros or dollars whatever this one is. I don't know because I have it with a phone contract. So I'm not it's not like.

I paid it in the shop uh, but I think it's like 1200 1300 euros. So if you have the money for it, then yeah. If you don't, have a lot of money like me, then yeah I would say: buy this one or a 10. , there wasn't nine there's no iPhone 9, I guess the 10. You can also buy second hand for a good price.

It's actually what it is. The picture you're seeing now in your screen. That's just a normal picture right, a few old coats, but the thing is this was shot in the dark and this is what iPhone made out of it. It's really amazing. I can.

I cannot understand how it can make a picture in dark. This was in almost pitch blank dark, oh, and this is the tip a trick. I will show you uh. I think it's very handy because I didn't know. Furthermore, I have iPhones my whole life and I didn't know there was an option like this.

So you go to your settings. Then you go to. I think it's called in English accessibility. You click that one! Then you go to touch then you scroll down there, you see tap on the back side, choose between two options, a two time step or three time tabs. So I've got two times it's a screenshot and three times is I lock the screen? I didn't know this was working.

This is also working with the case by the way. So normally, when you want to make a screenshot, you have to press this one and well normally I have to press the home button. I guess, and then you know you press the close button longer. So you're all your screen is black. Now what I have to do suppose I want to make a screenshot out of this.

I only have to tap twice there. You see and now it's made of screenshot. If I want to lock my screen, I just tap three times voil?. I never knew this was on an iPhone. So this is a free tip for you.

I hope you use it. Um iPhone 8 plus versus 12 pro max yeah. Well, it is a better camera. Some points I actually like more on the iPhone 8 plus, which is kind of impossible to say, but I have to say I had to, but I'm 100 sure this is going to be an awesome phone. It's going to be awesome, camera and next video, I'm going to shoot, will be with this one.

So stick around, and you'll see the result how it looks with the iPhone 12 Pro max. I hope this was a bit useful. I don't think it was useful, but I hope it was a little useful and I hope to see you next time bye-bye for now. You.
