iPhone 11 Pro Max - BRUTALLY Honest Review

What's up guys, it's Cody here today in this video we would be doing the two week brutally honest review on the iPhone 11 Pro Max now. This is not gonna, be one of those videos where you're just going to get the feature list that comes along with the iPhone I'm gonna, actually review it. Yeah, I'm going to give like opinions and stuff. It's going to be crazy. You guys are going to love it. You might not.

Furthermore, you might actually hate it a lot, but I feel like this is needed. A lot of people just say: hey here's, the new iPhone, here's. What Apple says is new Apple says it's good. It's probably good! No! We're not going to do that. Today.

Okay, we're gonna, go over all the things that are supposed to be new in the iPhone, and we're gonna talk about the first thing that I want to talk about before we actually get into the review is. Can we please stop saying that the iPhone is the best iPhone ever made by Apple every single year? Could we please stop that? That's out of control absolutely yeah. We know that it's the best iPhone that they put out they had an entire additional year to work on it from the previous iPhone. It better be better, so pull up, Apple's pants and get off your knees and stop singing that stupid. Thank you, and what's with the reviews that only list the new features, they don't actually talk about them in a critical way.

Can we get a little criticism here? I mean honestly. What is the point of having a review? This is just a bunch of pretty b-roll, and you're talking about the new features, the punch list of new features that Apple says is new and is great, don't read that go reads that from the Apple website. If you want somebody to read an Apple website to you, this is not the review for you now. I understand that this is the most popular phone on the entire planet, but rather than feeding into the masses and just painting a pretty little picture for everybody, so that they can feel good about spending $1,500 on a phone every single year from Apple. Why don't we get Apple a little, so they stopped shipping the same damn phone every year? Is that too much to ask I? Don't think it is now I promise? This is not a hundred percent bashing Apple in the new iPhone.

This is an actual review. The only reason that I'm a little heated about because of all the reviews that I looked at everything was just so positive and so awesome people that use Apple products on a daily basis. I. e. This guy should be able to give some criticism to Apple every time that they release a device.

It's not perfect, it's not even almost perfect, but it's not bad either. Let's just get into it. So here is my brutally honest. I phone 11 pro max review. So what's changed according to Apple in the new iPhone 11 Pro Max versus last year's iPhone 10s max, so we have performance, we have dimensions, battery design, face ID display and obviously the cameras.

First, let's talk about performance now, you're, probably thinking Cody. Are you pissed about the performance? Are you mad that the iPhone is actually faster than the previous iPhone? No I'm? Not magic, the iPhone is faster and performs better than the previous iPhone. What I'm kind of mad about or what I'm a little upset about is how it's portrayed in the media they say things like. Oh it's, this percent faster fantastic. Now that sounds like a selling point right.

Well, it's not really because it's not something that you're gonna notice on a day-to-day basis, yeah sure your iPhone is probably going to open up the app switcher like nanoseconds, faster, and you're going to save, possibly an entire three seconds over the entire year. What are you going to do with all that three seconds blink in reality, you're going to have to do some really crazy things with your iPhone that hardly anybody does in order to see that performance jump. For instance, somebody did a video export of a 13-minute video at 4k 60 frames per second on an iPhone 10s max versus an iPhone 11 Pro max. The difference was the iPhone 10s max took like something around 21 minutes and the iPhone 11 Pro max took 18 minutes. What? What? What? What who the and it's 13-minute long videos on their iPhone sloth from the Goodies that sounds absolutely horrible? What market is that filling? If you can afford a $1500 phone I got a fantastic idea instead buying a $1,500 iPhone that you have to edit your videos on how about you purchase first, first purchase a little of brain cells.

Second invested a laptop honestly, that's ridiculous! So yeah you're not really going to experience anything different if you're coming from a 10s or a 10s max, unless you just hate yourself, and you edit, 13-minute videos on it. Next, let's talk about something, that's pretty good! It's a little! Thicker, it's a little heavier! Now to me! That's not a bad thing! It's actually something that I asked for in previous reviews, because I wanted a bigger battery and guess what they did. They actually got rid of 3d touch which basically got rid of that pressure-sensitive screen that you had to use in order to use 3d touch. They replaced 3d touch with haptic touch, which is basically the same functionality. It doesn't feel as cool.

It doesn't vibrate just right, and it's not as fast, but it has the same functionality. The thing is: I, don't ever use 3d touch anyways, hardly ever most of the people that have iPhones, probably didn't even know it existed, maybe not most, but a lot and a lot more didn't use it anyways. So they got rid of that hardware that they have to use in order to use 3d touch, and they made space for a battery more bad, bigger battery and guess what the battery on the iPhone 11 Pro max is awesome. Absolutely awesome. If you have battery issues that right there is a selling point, because it's great it's a great battery, it lasts easily an entire day, even with what I would consider heavy usage.

I could get a day and a half out of it. Apple says that it's a five-hour increase from the 10s max to the iPhone 11 Pro max I haven't done like stringent benchmarking battery tests on it, but I can't say that it's definitely a lot better, and it lasts absolutely a lot longer. Battery is good. No battery is great. Now, if you guys have been following me for any amount of time, you know that I don't like face ID I, just don't like it, I hate it actually I think it sucks and there's a couple of reasons behind that now.

The first reason comes when I have my device sitting on my desk, which is all the time basically get a notification on my device. I have to do one of two things in order to make sure that it unlocks one of those is pick it up. Put it in front of my face. Look at it have it unlock. The second is leaning over completely lining up my face with face ID, so it does recognize it sometimes I'll even fail to open as I'm leaning, because it tries to read before I'm, actually all the way in frame in front of the sensors.

That's not efficient. The next thing is being on your phone in bed. It just it's not going to work. If you're on your side- and you got half your face buried into the pillow, so you got to roll over on your back, hold your phone up, and then it's going to unlock what it all boils down to is the angles on face: ID still suck. They said that face.

I'd was faster on the new iPhone 11, Pro and Pro max it's not faster and face. I'd is inferior to touch ID I, don't care what you say: there's no way anybody's going to convince me whatsoever that face ID is better than touch ID. Some people will say: well, it's more secure than touch ID I mean you know. If you think about it, your device is only secure as your passcode, because guess what whether using touch ID or you're using face ID to unlock your device. If somebody knows your passcode they're getting in now, let's quickly talk about the display, because whatever here's, what happened, they up the brightness a little, they up the contrast a little, and then they gave it a brand-new name.

The super retina XD our display, see the trick of it. Are you only have to change it just a little, give it a new name and boom? Now you have a bullet point that says brand-new display on the iPhone 11 Pro and pro max. That's one more reason for you guys to upgrade. Well guess what you can't tell a difference, even if the phones are side-by-side, you can't tell a difference. If anybody tells you they can tell a difference like there's a major improvement in the screens.

No, no now some people say that yeah it gets brighter in some places like if you're watching, movies or videos, or something like that. Possibly I didn't notice that at all, but no I mean it doesn't look any better than the iPhone 10s max out in daylight. It's not any more readable when you're watching videos from what I noticed. I can't tell it's almost impossible to tell so for the display, not a selling point, don't get it for the display. So, to recap, because I want to talk about the cameras last and spoiler alert cameras are actually pretty good, but before that, let's get into the other selling points for the Apple iPhone 11 / Mac's face idea is faster.

Well, no, no, it's not face. I'd has better angles. Well, no! No, it doesn't the display it's better. It's called super Retina DR. Well, no you're, not gonna notice, the difference.

If the performance is so much faster yeah. Well, it is, but you won't notice it. The battery lasts 5 hours longer, yeah it does. Finally, we got one that makes sense. We got a selling point, that's actually worth mentioning and of course, the other major selling point.

The really only selling point of this device. I wouldn't even say that the battery was a selling point just because I'm not gonna, spend that much money on a phone just for battery life. I want something that has something that the other ones don't I made through fine with the battery life on my 10s max. But if you want something new, an actual new feature, that's going to be the cameras, so you have telephoto lens. You have ultra-wide lens, and then you have your primary lens.

They're, all 12, megapixel, and they're. All going to perform a little differently and of course, we're gonna talk about night mode, too because night mode, it's pretty cool, so the primary lens is gonna. Take the best photo in terms of quality. So if you're, using like the telephoto lens or the ultra-wide lens, then you're going to get a little more noise, which you should obviously expect, but having ultra-wide lens on the camera itself opens up possibilities for pictures that you couldn't get before on an iPhone. Now, a lot of people are gonna, be using this for landscapes, but I think it's good for taking pictures of things that are up close where you just want to get more of the surrounding scene.

So that's more of what I've been using it for now. Let's talk about night mode, I really like this feature and I haven't messed with other night mode before so. I can't really compare other night modes on phones like the pixel or anything, but I can't say this is a really cool feature on the iPhone. Now, even if you can't use night mode on the ultra-wide camera, it does a perfect job when you're using the other lenses. Now, here's some perfect photos showing night mode from the professional photographer Rob Girard ended up getting much cooler pictures than I got here where I live.

In my opinion, they look great, it's really hard to argue with the phone. They can take pictures like this at night. Here you can see the difference between using just the flash in poorly lit areas to using night modes, and the results are incredibly drastic and, in my opinion, pretty good. Now in some of these photos, it looks like there are just spotlights on the photo, because it's so well lit with night mode that you would never guess that you were taking this in a really dim or low light area. Now, keep in mind for these pictures, you're going to have to set an exposure.

It does do an automatic exposure. If you don't want to, you know, do it manually, which it works just fine that way, but for the most part, if you're taking a photo of something, possibly at a party like this photo right here, you can see that if people will start moving around- and you have like- maybe a three-second exposure- that you can get some blurriness in the photo just depending on how much a person or an object moves. So just keep that in mind. Now, while you can turn off night mode, when it's automatically turned on, you can't turn it on manually, which I think is pretty dumb. You're going to be in some conditions where you have pretty dim lighting or low-light conditions, but it's not quite dim or dark enough in order for that night mode to automatically trigger, even if you think the photo would benefit from having night mode on you're not gonna, be able to turn it on I hope.

This is something that Apple's going to add in a later iteration of iOS, because you should be able to turn on night mode if you want it on now. I kind of screwed up, and I recorded at 1080p at 60 frames per second, but I still wanted to use these videos, because they're of some of my nieces and nephews and I even got my niece's very first soccer goal on camera. So I wanted to share that with you guys and of course, video is still insanely good on the 11 Pro max I mean I've always been happy with the video that iPhone provides, and this device is no different. Everything is color. Accurate autofocus is pretty quick.

Stabilization is perfect and there are no settings that you have to set up you just point and shoot. It makes capturing things at the moment, really easy. So yeah, that's my review for the iPhone 11 Pro max. Now, of course, this is just hardware. I am still having some issues with iOS 13 right now, where I'm on iOS 13 point one point, two, and they're still just there's just too many bugs in iOS 13.

Right now had several issues with the camera: freezing I've had issues with share sheet buttons, not working having to close out of applications. Reopening them CarPlay just like, doesn't work pretty much at all. It works, maybe 5% of the time is. Sometimes I can get at least the audio out of the phone when I'm playing like Spotify or something but CarPlay still doesn't show up. That's really annoying.

My other phone had no issue whatsoever. The 10s max has no issue connecting to car play or anything like that. So hopefully these bugs get ironed out in iOS 13, and they can have a much smoother and nicer experience that we're used to in iOS, so I hope you guys enjoyed the video I enjoyed, making it I know. I seem like mad in the video I'm, not really mad. It's just things that frustrate me that I like to talk about, because you know apples incredible at marketing.

They are so good at marketing. The commercials are amazing and everybody's, so obsessed with Apple that even the slightest little upgrade can end up being a selling point to a consumer when in reality, even though yeah the screens a little better, it's not a selling point. It's not worth upgrading to no one's really going to tell the difference between the 10s Mac screen and the 11pro Mac screen same thing goes for performance. You're, really, not gonna, see a huge performance unless you're doing insane things on your phone like editing, a video, that's 13 minutes long on your phone and saving a few minutes during export. When in reality you could have saved I, don't know hours hitting on a laptop just because you can edit it faster.

So it doesn't really make sense to me and I. Don't feel like it's a good benchmark to really put out there to say yeah, it's faster! You should get it because it's faster! So, hopefully all my points were clearly conveyed. I tried to do it in you know a fun way. At the same time. I know a lot of people are going to be upset, but you know what I? Don't care man, that's my opinion.

You're allowed to have yours, and we can go on our merry way. All right guys!
