iPad Pro 2018 Still Worth It? 18 Month Review (2020) By Craig's Tech Talk

I've been using the 2018 iPad Pro for the last 18 months, I'm gonna share with you my experience using it and, if I think it's still worth it in 2020, hello, friends, welcome back if you're new here my name is Craig. If you want to get more out of your tech, you are in the right place on this channel. I cover a lot of smart home tech, but I'm also a huge fan of Apple products. This is part of a new series that dives into Apple products and how to use them to get more out of them in March, a Pillar bounce, the new 20/20 iPad Pro it's a minor upgrade from the 2018 to me, the biggest and coolest thing that announced is the new magic keyboard. That'll work with the 2018 and 2020 iPad pros I have a magic keyboard coming in a couple of days and will follow up with the video when it gets here. As for the 20/20 iPad Pro, of course, I want to upgrade why wouldn't I's new, but I'm gonna stick with the 2018 for now.

Let's talk about this 2018 version, how it's been using? It and why I think it's still worth keeping I went with the Wi-Fi and cellular 11-inch, iPad Pro with 256 gigabytes of storage. The base model started at 799 with 64 gigabytes of storage. The 2020 11-inch iPad Pro also starts at 799. Claude has double the base storage at 128 gigabytes. You can still find the iPad Pro at places like Best Buy, for $100 off.

If this is the first time you were to buy an iPad Pro, I would spend that extra hundred dollars to get the 20/20 model to have double the storage and the additional upgrades. This is my first iPad Pro I was really excited to get one, but in reality it was not some mind-blowing experience from a regular iPad. Yes, I love the features it has it introduced in almost all screen design. It has faced ID, no home button, USB-C quad speakers for great sound and a beautiful 120 Hertz screen Apple does have some good-looking screens now, Apple has continued with a low resolution horrible front facing camera that you can use for 720p time. What that's not a good wait.

That's not a polite, your face time and camera resolution up on the iPads and laptops. It's embarrassing how bad your cameras look, went on FaceTime or Skype, as for the design, I think the thin and squared off look is great, but the word case is offending that I, don't think were as widespread as some would lead you to believe. I could say.18 months later, my iPad is still nice and straight this 2018 iPad Pro has a 12 X processor that Apple claims can beat most PCs. The 20/20 is using an upgraded, a 12 C processor that adds one more GPU. It's really not a huge change.

Looking at the benchmark results and people comparing the two with as powerful as the 12x processor is in the 2018 iPad Pro. It really didn't matter much because it was being hobbled by iOS. Yes, there are some great apps available, but most of those apps work great on any iPad I think the real benefit when the iPad Pro came out and even now lies in the accessories. It's the keyboard folio and the Apple Pencil that, in my opinion, make it worth the money of getting an iPad Pro if you're not using either a keyboard or pencil I, don't know how beneficial the iPad Pro is, in my opinion, I think without them, you're buying an expensive iPad for some aesthetic changes and a couple of upgrades face. I'd 120 hurt screen.

Maybe all that stuff is enough for you now using the iPad Pro for the last 18 months with the keyboard and pencil. It's a complete package that I turn to. Instead of my laptop, it's lightweight its compact and very functional. Before this set up I found iPads were just media consumption devices to me, iPads were only productivity devices when I was too lazy to get up and walk to my laptop before the iPad Pro and keyboard I would respond to an email using my phone instead of the on-screen keyboard of my iPad I do find media consumption with the iPad Pro is even better than any previous iPad I love watching videos on this, the 102 Hertz promotion display is beautiful and color accurate. The 20/20 models are using the same display movies, look great with Dolby Vision, support the quad speakers, sound nice and support dopey Atmos.

It has very full sound instead of holding it. I often just use the keyboard because it makes a great stand when I'm traveling. I watch movies on this I, really don't watch movies or videos on my laptop I use my laptop to either surf websites or get work done since having the iPad Pro I. Do a lot of responding to emails, answering comments, sending messages and more that I used to use. My laptop for I now use my iPad Pro to type up my scripts like this one with ease using Microsoft Word I, do research and type up notes using split screen.

Even if you don't use a keyboard, it's nice that with iPadOS now you could shrink the keyboard down into a corner, and you swipe typing to get stuff done. It feels more like a phone typing experience that way. I find I can do much of my daily work that in the past, I would have used a laptop for now. The real game-changer with the iPad Pro was iPadOS that came out in 2019. It introduced a real file browser support for external drives and a desktop browser that made a huge difference to have a real web browser instead of a mobile experience.

I find myself needing my laptop even last now, and I think for a lot of people. This could be their only computer if it wasn't for a CAD program and Final Cut. Pro I really wouldn't need my laptop at all. Now with the Apple Pencil and now real mouse support, it's great for editing, videos and programs like Lima fusion, I can pop in an SD card and import footage right to the iPad Lima fusion definitely shows the power of the iPad I can export a five-minute clip as fast as I can on my $3,500 16-inch, MacBook Pro all that power in a finless tablet. I love that I could use a twenty dollar program like infinity photo to do photo.

Editing affinity photo brings a desktop Photoshop experience to an iPad. This iPad is also awesome for gaming. You compare an Xbox or PlayStation controller and really get a console like gaming experience out of the iPad. This iPad Pro is definitely powerful and handles apps with ease I. Think part of that is that iOS apps are made to work with older devices to so a powerful iPad like the pro easily runs through them.

Now, with the 20/20 iPad pros out, is it still worth keeping the 2018 I say? Definitely other than increase base storage, the new cameras and one more GPU, there's not much that it's changed. I think that the minor update to the processor says a lot about the 2018. It is using the same processor with one more GPU core benchmarks are showing it's really not a huge gain. I think that's great news for the 2018 iPad Pro typically Apple supports iPads for about five years. That means 2020.

iPads are going to get at least five years of support and since it's a minimal upgrade from the 2018, this should get another five years of support if I were buying my first iPad Pro I would definitely buy a 20/20 iPad Pro because even brand new on the 20 18s it's about a hundred dollars. Difference I think that difference is worth it for the extra base, storage and the upgrades that come with it. But if I found a great deal on the 2018 iPad Pro I would get it instead, if you're someone that already has a 20-18 iPad Pro I, wouldn't run out and go upgrade to the 20/20 I'd just keep using this I've been really enjoying the experience and performance of the iPad Pro as someone who's a self-employed business owner and a creator. This takes care about 80% of what I need to do to me. This is the future of computing.

I. Think tablets are gonna, be where we had to don't get me wrong. You have to retrain some of what you know about using a computer. iPads require thinking differently at times going to an iPad Pro. Is your only computer is not going to be for everyone? You're not gonna, get all of your dedicated programs that you might have on a Mac or PC, but each year you get more and more of those programs.

I'm holding out hope that the rumors are true and Final. Cut Pro is coming to the iPad this year, but overall I think this device is still worth getting or holding on to in 2020. I will say: I can't wait to use it with the new magic keyboard.
