- I'm Rene Ritchie. And I'm gonna unbox the brand new 2020 iPad air fourth-generation and just all the accessories, all of them. And I'm gonna do it right now. Sponsored by Brilliant. First Pencil's first. And as usual Apple has ease of access all set up easy and accessible.
Find the little tab and pull. Designed by Apple in California. First up, we've got all the paperwork. Just telling you all about what it is and final floss plug. Inside we have the Apple pencil proper and of course it's protected.
And then it's really just a simplified version of the previous Apple pencil. Instead of having the lightening Audi on the back, it charges inductively. And in terms of size, it's just a little bit smaller. Next up SmartFolio. And this just pops right at.
Spoiler alert it's blue. Apple logo embossed on the back and all magnetic and segmented on the front. Magic keyboard. We all saw this one coming. Again, Apple has your unwrapping all figured out.
And this is the 11 inch magic keyboard. The same one for the 11 inch iPad pro. One size fits both. All the plastic, all of it, same blank inside. But this time it comes with, you got it paperwork, reverse pluck.
But you didn't see that coming. Apple logo on the back and inside all this keyboard glory. Now the showstopper, the main event, the iPad. And this is iPad air fourth generation. Wi-Fi 256 gigabytes.
Same tab setup, same easy plastic removal. IPad air on top. Designed by Apple in Cupertino. And we have the iPad air booklet just to get you started, 180 pack. Yes stickers.
Inside we have USB-C. Two USB-C because the iPad air like the iPad pro two years ago has switched from lightning to USB-C just to make everyone who wants a USB-C iPhone cry a little bit harder. And also a power adapter. An AC power adapter. And now, the grand unwrap, and we have the new iPad air.
And this is in the new sky blue color. In terms of how blue is blue this is the sky blue of the iPad air and the blue blue of the iPhone 12 and the Pacific blue of the iPhone 12 pro. And it is the same size, the same physical size as the 11 inch iPad pro and compared to the 12.9 inch iPad pro you can see different camera systems. It doesn't have the ultra wide angle or the LiDAR scanner just the single wide angle camera. First, cases first.
Here we go SmartFolio. And this is if you just want a simple screen and back protector. Next we've probably all been waiting for the keyboard case. And you just slap the sucker right on there Federighi style. Yeah, it looks identical to the iPad pro in the keyboard case except the cutout for the camera is of course a little bit wider than it needs to be because there's only a single camera system.
One of the biggest features in the new iPad air is touch ID. Yeah, touch ID. Full screen, like the iPad pro but instead of face ID, Apple is going back to the touch. And because it's just a sliver you have to move your finger around and just get all the little edges similar to what you did with the original iPhone 5s and higher. And then you have the FaceTime but not face ID camera on the top and the bottom you have stereo speakers.
They are not the four speakers system of the iPad pro where you have four completely separate speakers And as you rotate them, they rotate the soundstage with you. This has dual speaker systems. Now there are four grills that way if you're holding it and you cover one set of grills the audio could still come out the other set. So if you've got one hand, depending on how you hold it you're never really obstructing the audio up or down but it is using the same kind of widening technology the computational audio that the iPhone has been using for a while to widen the soundstage so that the bits are driving the atoms to perform just better than they have any right to on their own. And on the bottom, you have USB-C instead of lightning.
It's not quite as fast as the iPad pro but it can attach to all the same kind of accessories whether they're peripherals or storage or external displays 4k external displays. I've been typing on the 12.9 inch magic keyboard for months and I love it. It's one of the best typing experience that I've ever had. This is slightly smaller and I'm just typing on for the first time. So it's probably going to take me a little more time to get used to it.
Because it is just a little bit small. And of course it (indistinct) wouldn't be Renee in your iPad unless I was welcoming it with a quick Batman sketch. Now the iPad air is more than just the sum of its atoms. It's aluminum and glass and even, yeah, Silicon. Increasingly it's all about them bits.
And not just software but AI, machine learning, computer vision, natural language and to learn about all of that maybe even get into all of that check out brilliance neural network course. With it you can learn how wiring up just 50 neurons can build a network that's capable of classifying handwritten digits. Basically the foundation for how scribble works with the Apple pencil and iPad. It's literally the bionic in a 14 bionic. But really it's everything these days.
