Huawei Mate 30 Pro Review - 3 Months Later! | With GOOGLE Apps!

Hi guys it's SP y T, and this is the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. It was quietly and somewhat controversially launched back in September. It promised and has, in my opinion, subsequently delivered in being quite possibly one of the most brilliantly flawed pieces of tech of our time, I've been using on and off for the last couple of months. So it's time for my full review, the good points, the bad points, the truth and spoiler alert I've been using it with Google Apps. So without further ado, lets to it now. Firstly, as with all of my long-term review videos, this isn't gonna, be specked, Laden as I'm sure you're already well aware of them, and if you're not there's plenty of information out there on this, including a link in the video description right under the like button, which has to be smashed if you're a Huawei fan.

But what excuse me Galaxy, Note template is getting jealous. Why don't you chill out alright, but what this video hopefully will give? You are a perspective on the device based on real-world everyday use after a long period of time. So, firstly, let's talk hardware and in my opinion this is probably one of, if not the most striking phones of 2019, and it feels one of the most premium as well. For me, it perfectly strikes the balance between large display great for media consumption, while still remaining really comfortable in the hand, not too aside, which does have a purpose, of course, housing that 3d facial recognition system with those waterfall edges. This really is a beauty to look at, but those amazing immersion levels come at a cost.

Instead of the more traditional volume rocker, you have a double tap on the side of the display feature in order to adjust the levels with the addition of haptic feedback, while I've got used to it, and it's not really a massive deal-breaker. For me, it's still annoyingly slow when you want to adjust the volume quickly like when your two-month-old is asleep. Next to you, and your footy team has just slammed in the winner and the commentator has just lost his marbles. You try now the volume, but by the time you fumbled with the side of the display to activate the volume software. It's too late, he's awake, and now I'm going to miss the rest of the match, because I'm going to be trying to get him back to sleep.

Of course, not everyone has that same dilemma, but it's just worth noting also kind of defeating the object. They have a physical power button anyway. So in my opinion, they may as well have just put a physical volume rocker, but outside that and the questionable design language of the camera setup. With that huge circular halo around the lenses, the hardware on the mate 30 Pro is truly brilliant. The camera hardware is industry-leading in pretty much most areas other than video, whose crown has been snatched by the iPhone 11 range and quick point-and-shoot photo capture, especially portraits, which, unsurprisingly, do enlarged answer.

Software has been nabbed by the pixel 4 inches, I've the seamless transitions between wide ultra-wide and telephoto lenses on this setup, a joy to use in well-lit situations, its ability to take photos with not only low noise levels, but also great detail, a combination which not only is rare in today's smartphones, but also really hard to achieve. It has a wide dynamic range and the color temperature on the whole is pleasing on the eye, something with the P30 Pro struggled with a little I found some photos on the P30 Pro a little blown and washed out in comparison, although you do have the 5 times, optical zoom, of course, on the P30 Pro to the oddly lowered three times optical zoom on the Main 30 Pro a little of a step back for me, and I'd love to ask them why they did that low-light photography on this phone is phenomenal. Managing to snapshots that pick out so much detail in the shadows. It's scary. One complaint from some people is that low-light photography on the latest Huawei devices is almost too bright.

Eaton looks artificial and unrealistic, and, while I can't necessarily argue with that fact, I would prefer to have it that way round than as with a lot of smartphones, the shadows just are completely crushed still. For me, it is the one to beat in low-light performance and, in my opinion it leaves the iPhone, the pixel and the Samsung devices, etc. in the dusk, light conditions in the dust so bad it hurts. If you feel you want to unsubscribe after that, I don't blame you. He was that bad.

The camera also has a great variety of different AI features to help make certain photos really pop, and that's thanks to the in-house. While we made SOC the current 990, this chipset also crushes day-to-day tasks like social media work flow and also gaming, while probably not as good as the soon-to-be-released snapdragon 86 5. It's certainly very, very competitive for mobile gaming. Now battery has also been a huge chance for Huawei to make a statement in the industry and again, there's no real change here. Actually, not only is a decent size at 4500 mAh, but the great optimization also means it's been an into the next day battery.

For me also, the fast charging technology that, while we use in the make 30 Pro, is one of the best around meaning for me to plunk it on. For 30 minutes, I get a pretty decent day's use. Another very solid attribute and you've got wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. So battery again on the whole is brilliant. Speakers are pretty good in terms of volume, but it's not the best.

In terms of that crisp clarity, it's probably partly down to the fact that we have one normal bottom firing speaker, but at the top we have part of the display that vibrates in order to produce a sound, we don't have a dedicated speaker there, and while this does to give an added element to the acoustic performance, I would prefer that dedicated speaker and to be honest, based on the fact. We have that notch there I don't know why they couldn't have incorporated a proper speaker in there. So hardware was never really going to be the problem for Huawei in how this device was actually going to be received by the public. It was always going to be down to the software as soon as Google announced that they were not going to be able to trade with far away after the ban was implemented. From all accounts.

Sales across China were, as expected, very high, but across the rest of the world, numbers were far less impressive. No Google trade meant no Google services, no Google Play store Gmail YouTube, pretty much all the functions and apps that we certainly outside of China have come to expect and need from an Android device. This was probably the main reason why Huawei delayed the release of the device outside of China, in a hope that the political landscape would change, but so far it's not quite gone according to plan, and while there is still hope for change and Google services could be readied if things did currently the only way to use this phone with Google services, Google, Apps, etc. , is through third parties. As you can see, I've got Google Apps on here and, on the whole, they work.

As expected. There are a few inconsistencies to apps that I usually use most noticeably. What's up and Netflix, which weirdly seem to behave a law unto themselves, but the rest of them are, as you were, with no real problems. The biggie here for me, though, and the reason why I have to urge portion is that these apps are not natively baked into the software. You are relying on potentially untrusted third parties and that's why it makes this phone so much harder to recommend plain and simple if it weren't for the ban.

This would probably be my current weapon of choice. The overall emu software is not my favorite, but I could get over that if the phone ship natively with Google services, as the hardware is just so ruddy good. If you like, the word ruddy make sure you drop a like on the video. Hopefully things do change soon and while we do get the all-clear to work with Google again, and hopefully it's in time for the launch of the Huawei p40 Pro, which is another phone that I'm incredibly excited to check out if you are ? and want to stay updated with all the latest information on that device and the subsequent reviews, unboxing videos etc. For that then make sure you are subscribed to the channel.

You turn on the notification belt, so you're notified when those videos drop. If you did enjoy this video and found it helpful, and even if you just like why away as a company truffle like on the video share with your friends and family and I, will love you and leave you I'll see in the next one SP what II peace.
