What is up guys today, we're going to be checking out the Pixel 4a for 2021. It's a mid-ranger around 350 right now brand new. You can pick it up, uh refurbished like this one for around uh 300 uh. So let's go ahead and get started uh the main you know thing with this phone that you're getting a pretty much a flagship quality camera uh with a know, mid-range price, which is awesome. So let's go ahead and start off with the hardware. So there's nothing super special about the hardware.
It is a know: plastic foam pretty much like here. It doesn't feel like super premium like a glass metal foam, but it does feel solid. Has a pretty nice weight to it as well, and I think it looks better than the previous pixel phone, especially with the design google decided to go with the trendy, camera module setup and the front of the phone now has the punch, hole and um yeah, it just looks way better than the 3a, and so that was a really nice um. You know thing that google did here now we have our white power button right here: volume rockers down below. We do have stereo speakers on this guy.
We do have USB and our sim tray right here as well, and the camera bump has a bit of a raise to it, not anything too crazy, but um. Let's see, does it wobble yeah, it stays pretty, pretty still so, not too crazy. We also have our physical fingerprint scanner on the back, which is very fast, no issues at all uh with this guy and there is no face unlock on this phone. Unfortunately uh, that's something that I would have liked, and you know to have seen now. The Pixel 4a has a 5.8 inch, 1080p 443 for the PPI OLED display, and it is a really nice looking display. It's got the punch hole on the left-hand side and much better than the know the 3a it had like a huge bezel and everything.
So this looks more modern um, like most smartphones at this price point and the display looks beautiful, color wise, it's fairly bright outdoors as well, which is really nice. Now, of course, you got, you know a little of bezel here, but honestly for this price point I mean you, don't really get you know. A lot of OLED displays most people where most manufacturers will just put an IPS display here, but Google went with the OLED display, which is really nice. It looks really bright, vibrant and colorful. If you do want to change the color profile you can, but honestly it looks good.
You can set a black wallpaper, save battery life for this OLED display so really nice. I was really happy to see that here now out of the box, you get android 11 on this phone and the benefit with the pixel. You know brand. Is that you're getting the stock clean version of android, so it's very bare minimal. You know android stuff here uh, you got your screen recorder here.
You have your night mode or you're dark. Furthermore, you know theme or whatever you want to call it and uh. Everything is super bearish. If you just go through settings like you know, unlike one UI or even oxygen OS or really any other one you're going to find a lot of customization stuff you're, not only pixel, everything is super bare, but it's also the benefit of that it is very fast as well. We have our select right here.
We can take a screenshot, it's just a super stock version of android. Furthermore, we have our split screen on here as well, so just super stock, but it's its very fast. I haven't had any issue with speed on this phone and the benefit with uh having the pixels that you're going to get updates extremely fast and when the next version of android comes out going to be one of the first uh to get the update uh, which is nice. So if you're somebody that cares about software updates uh. This is something that you might like.
This is a smartphone you might like, and obviously you have your Google now page something I absolutely love needs to be on every single android device. It's very, very useful to me uh. So let's talk about the specs a little more. So we have the snapdragon 730 g and the arena 618. This is not the 5g uh version.
There is a 5g version, but this is not it um, but the phone, like, I said, is very fast: let's go ahead and check out some gaming on here, alright. So how is gaming on here gaming on here is fine. You have um 128 gigs of internal storage and six gigs of ram, but you have no uh micro SD support. So if you're, somebody that plays a lot of games and stuff like that uh it kind of sucks that this phone does not have a micro SD card. You have a headphone jack on board.
Of course, my guy everything looks great just to show you the graphics settings for Call of Duty mobile on very high. You can go to very high. Everything looks great. I never get any lag gaming on here and also the phone does not really get hot. You know, even though it's a plastic phone uh, I don't have any problems with it getting hot, so you can definitely do gaming on here, of course, like you're, not gonna, be able to uh you're, not gonna, be able to max like everything out like on pub g or uh fortnight or whatever, but it does do fine uh with gaming.
If you guys are interested, I can do a full gaming test for this phone, but, as you can see, it plays fine. The poncho gives you a really nice immersive experience. So no issues here, especially on this OLED display everything looks perfect. So I love the fact that they put stereo speakers on this phone here. So let's go ahead and check them out at max volume here.
So the sound is coming from this speaker and then up here. This is actually just here for show. I guess there's actually nothing coming out of this one speaker quality is excellent, very good mid and highs good bass presence. Absolutely no distortion, uh just awesome sound speakers on here, so I've always loved that Google puts stereo speakers and their um. Pixel phones is just an awesome experience because they do actually sound really, really good.
So let's talk about the additional features and what this phone has and does not have. So you do not have any sort of IP rating. Of course on here. There is no type of wireless charging on here as well, but, like I said you do have your headphone jack and you do have NFC for your mobile payments and your physical fingerprint scanner on the back. Also, you do not have any face unlock like I mentioned as well.
Alright, so let's talk about the camera, so it's just a single camera. On the back, the 12.2 megapixel wide. You have 4k video with an 8 megapixel, selfie camera that shoots in 1080p. Here, let's go ahead and take at a look at the camera software before I show you guys the video and stuff like that and uh stills um. So it's basically you know your basic.
You know pixel camera set up here. We have our night sight. We also have portrait mode. I also have our video, and then we have modes, your panama, your panorama. I don't know what it is about to say: photosphere, slow, motion, time-lapse and lens.
So basically, this is taking some excellent photos, perfect photos, as you can see uh here, let's just go over them. Just dynamic range is just perfect on here. Detail is just perfect on this phone. The portrait mode would do an excellent job, gave some perfect blurred out shots. It was just an awesome camera for this price point very detailed shots uh for 350 bucks.
This is really as good as it gets now. I would say compared to because I know a lot of people compare this to flagship quality. I think it's a little softer than yours. You know standard flagship phones like the s21 and maybe the iPhone, 12 and stuff like that, from what I'm seeing, but it's really, really good like it's really up there with you know, flagship quality um, you know phones, so that is something that you really enjoy. If you want a perfect uh phone that takes perfect pictures, this is definitely the way to go, and also you can see this phone did really well with uh the dark mode or the night sight on here I took a photo in the Darth and I used to take the same photo, and you can see it brighten it, and it definitely looks a lot brighter and better.
So the Pixel 4a takes some awesome, awesome photos and um color reproduction is pretty spot-on too. I just really love how this phone takes cameras very confident in the image processing. So I do want to go ahead and let you guys hear the audio and see the video as well. Here's the video quality and the mic quality and the video is super smooth, and again it's super muddy outside as well. It's not the brightest day.
All right guys here is the video on the 4a here it's at the desk here and the video is not, not bad at all. It's definitely pretty good um. Now it doesn't have. I think I've seen still better video from the iPhone. In my opinion, I still think the iPhones have some of the best video, but you can't deny that this is pretty good.
It's not bad at all. Detail color wise and let me know how the mic sounds. Lastly, let's go ahead and talk about battery life, so you have a what you would think as a small battery, but it's actually, you have to have pretty good battery life on here. The 3140 William hour battery with 18 watt fast charging. This phone can easily do six to seven hours of screen on time again, depending on how you use your phone, but you can easily get through a day with this phone, a hundred percent uh.
So I was really happy with battery life since I thought it was going to be not so great since it's kind of small, but I think stock android has a lot to do with it, but battery life is excellent on this phone. So that is something that you do not have to worry about. I would have liked to have seen you know. You know wireless charging, but at this price point it's not a big complaint um. So awesome phone guys I'm really impressed with this phone.
I'm going to compare it to a couple other phones, but I was really impressed with the camera quality and how fast android um 11 is on this phone. It really just does not miss a beat when it comes to speed and stuff like that. So what do you guys think of the Pixel 4a be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
