Hi I'm, Michael, Josh and you're watching gadget match it's 2019, so leaks are given, but nothing quite like the pixel for probably the most leaked phone in the history of leaks. But today, here in New York the phone is official. Let's take a look, shall we? This is our Google Pixel floor and than? Ok, so you've probably already seen the leaked unboxing on YouTube already. So why not a different kind of unboxing? Today, earlier today, at the Google office we got our pixel for review devices handed to us in a pizza box, I shot a bit of b-roll but got real hungry, so I have to eat the pizza first then came home and shot this part in my studio. It says, lift here and yes, this is it the orange pixel? Next up we get this extra box with accessories and when you open it up, it includes a special edition case nice, the pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, also ship with a USB cable, a USB, CD, USB, an adapter and, of course, a charging brick, but they don't come with earbuds. Thankfully, today, at their event, Google announced new Pixel Buds which look much smaller than air pods, or the new Microsoft Surface earbuds they're coming next year and I can't wait to try them out now in terms of updates.
The new pixel 4 and the pixel for Excel have a lot worth talking about, but as far as design goes, there's nothing new or revolutionary. Here. In fact, upfront is almost reminiscent of the pixel 2 XL, with a large forehead, but yeah this year the notch is gone and housed inside this forehead is new tech, which we'll talk about later as much as it's similar up front. Some might say when you flip the phone around you get a big departure from what we're used to go. Is that iconic dual tone? Look, that's a little of gloss and we Matt.
It comes in three colors, just black, clearly white, as per usual, and this year's colored option. Officially it's called So Orange. Last year we saw in not pink of the pixel three and purplish on the Pixel 3a, regardless of what color option you choose, though, all three phones, sport, a black frame around it. The back of the pixel four is pretty minimalist. Gun is the physical fingerprint scanner, but quite in your face is a squarish camera module similar to that on the iPhone 11, but in black, regardless of what color you're getting now, instead of a notch on the pixel for a pixel for Excel similar to what Apple is doing, Google has built its own complex, face and lock system up front.
Tucked away, are a selfie camera, a pair of IR cameras, a flood illuminator and dot projector Google is calling it the fastest and most secure face unlock in the market. The phone can detect. When you bring your face up close, you don't have to press any on buttons, and it unlocks just like that. The front panel also contains a radar chip so that you can be able to control your phone with air gestures. So, for example, you can swipe over the phone to change a track on Spotify.
There's. Also, a new Pikachu wallpaper that reacts when you swipe again. This isn't new we've seen it all the way back on the Samsung Galaxy s4 many years ago, and most recently, LG also put it on the g8. Now the question is: has Google done enough in terms of its implementation, to make it feel less of a gimmick, we'll try to answer this question in our review, but through time in by clicking over here to join, our poll looks like smartphone displays with fast refresh rates aren't becoming a thing standard is 60 Hertz, but then we saw gaming phones that push the boundaries all the way to a hundred and twenty Hertz. And then this year OnePlus made 90 Hertz.
The standard across its lineup looks like that will soon become the standard among Android phones with the pixel for also getting a 90 Hertz display. You hear this many times from reviewers, it's hard to be able to show it on video, but basically what this means is that, regardless of what you're doing on your phone swiping through the settings menu or scrolling through web pages on an Instagram feed, things will look buttery, smooth and subconsciously. Everything will feel faster. Of course, this is a pixel phone known for having some of the best cameras on a smartphone in the bits so expect this phone to be no exception, but start with hardware. This year after going single camera, even when its competitors went to three, even for the pixel four gets two main cameras on its sensor.
The main camera has a 12 megapixel sensor, while the second is a 16 megapixel, telephoto lens. Why not an ultra-wide well at the keynote reps from Google said, while wide-angle can be fun, we think telephoto is more important, but it's not camera hardware. That's mattered most to Google. What's really mattered is a computational photography and how that plays a role in making sure that images turn out the way that they do, portrait mode has been improved. It works way up close or even if your subject is further away.
Nitrite its long exposure night mode is even better and now there's an Castro photography mode for long exposure, shots of the night sky. If you want to see more sample photos, make sure you follow me on Twitter and Instagram and make sure you're subbed for our review. Video dropping on October 21st in the meantime take a look at some sample photos I shot on my first day with the pixel 4xm, oh and in case you're wondering the selfie camera on the new pixel 4 is as wide as ever. This selfie of all your favorite YouTubers is pretty epic photo by super-safe using a selfie. Stick, oh and before I forget the camera.
App also gets a bit of an update. My favorite feature allows you to adjust both highlights and shadows separately, while taking a photo. There are separate sliders for each, so, even if you're shooting against the light like in this example, you can take a photo that looks like this, because historically, the pixel is one of the last flagship smartphones to launch each calendar year. It's pickings of smartphone processors is limited, it usually it gets qualms latest which this time of the year would have already been several months old. Thankfully, this year, Qualcomm is offering its overclock eight five, five plus system-on-a-chip the pixel for has that processor Google's also bumped up ram a bit from four to six gigabytes which, although not up to par compared to other Android flagships, is much needed and should be enough considering Google's own software optimizations.
So are the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL your gadget match I literally just got my phone today, so you're going to have to wait till October 21st to hear my thoughts, but I guess to answer that question a little. We need to talk about price pixel. Four and four XL are the same price as last year, a good thing, just a dollar shy of eight hundred and nine hundred US dollars respectively. So I guess. The question that needs to be answered, then, is: are these improvements significant enough for you to want to upgrade? We will answer that question very soon again.
Our review video is coming out on the 21st, but if you can't wait, the phone is available for pre-order today and start shipping on October 24th, and that was our Google Pixel for unboxing and hands-on for more videos like this one.
