Google Pixel 3a Review 2020 - Opinions of a Photographer

Hello and welcome back to my channel I'm Georgia Maxilla from George Beth photography and in this video I wanted to review for you, the Google, pixel, 3/8, and so I've been using this for about 4 months now, every single day it's a brilliant phone and I know that there's a lot of Google Pixel, 3a comparison, videos and different review videos all over YouTube, but I wanted to just review this from the point of view of photographer. Just to let you know some basic stats and then, in my opinion, how good it is for me as a photographer for my business. So please don't forget to subscribe. I'd love it. If you'd share this video, if you really enjoyed it or if you have a Google Pixel 3a prop in the comments below what you love about it and let's get to it, it is really nice size. It's 5.6-inch screen, which I really like it's kind of smaller than a lot of your standard flagship phones at the minute, but I, don't like the fact that I can't type with one hand and things like that on this sort of bigger phone. So this is perfect size.

It's big enough screen to be able to watch little video clips back edit. Your photos in Adobe Lightroom app check out the video about editing in the Adobe Lightroom app here, but yeah I think it's just really the perfect size to have in your hand. So, as you can see nice big screen, there is sort of a little of a head in a foot toward chin on the back. Here we have our kind of fingerprint recognition, and you can use that as a trigger as well. If you wanted to use it as a swipe or anything like that, that can be used at the back.

So in here we have our little Google set. You've got your obviously yours, like sim card PIN there, and then your different kind of manuals and instructions, and then one thing that I really love about this is you've got a really simple transfer here. So I moved over from an old iPhone on to this Google Pixel I love, iPhones I've had iPhones for years. I thought well, shall I dive and not do sort of an Apple product, but I just thought. The process was so smooth.

You just literally plug your old phone into this and then plug this into the bottom of your Google Pixel, and it will transfer everything transfer available on a Google Play Store your contacts, your messages, all that sort of thing, just transfers straight onto the phone. So even though this isn't an Apple phone, the transfer process was just as smooth as if you were starting a new Apple phone. In my opinion, and then this is the charger which I just love, because it's just spotless and compact easy to put away you just sort of stick it up like that, and then you've got your little wire in there to plug it in it. Charges really quickly, yeah and literally within about half an hour. It's fully charged again.

So that's one thing that I really love about it and the battery life is brilliant. It will last all day, no matter what I'm doing whether I'm filming things with it, whether I'm taking those pictures, whether I'm watching videos or anything on there. It does literally last all day, which I just think is absolutely brilliant for this sort of level of phone okay, so the Google Pixel 3 a comes in three different color. This is just black, and then it comes in clearly white and then a purplish sort of color, which I'll just show in front of the screen here. I, really like the different options.

I chose black just because I know myself. Furthermore, I know that I might get it scuffed or marks or ever, and it's just obviously a lot easier to keep clean. The screen is just brilliant I think it's really bright. OLED screen, they are literally only 329 pounds on the Google store at the minute, because the Google or pixel 4 has come out. Obviously, this isn't the flagship phone, so you've got your Google Pixel 3 or your Google Pixel 4, which is a much higher price range.

But this literally for this price range.329 lat I just cannot fault it. You can't get any other phone like it in this sort of price range, in my opinion, there's a few little things that they've done to kind of keep the cost down. So the body is of basically made out of plastic rather than glass at the back. But to be honest, I still think it feels really, really sturdy. Another thing that they've done to kind of keep the costs down is the processor, so they've got 600 series Snapdragon processor instead of the 700 series, which would be in the critical pixel form.

It's still really snappy, really fast, I'm really impressed with the way it kind of functions and all that kind of thing there's no real lag on anything going into apps and using them or anything like that. So it comes with 64 gigabytes of storage. There aren't any other options for a higher storage on the physical phone, but because it is linked to Google. It is so easy. It backs up all your photos onto your Google account online for me as a creative business owner.

This is literally perfect with my old iPhone. You would either have to purchase iCloud storage or emailing yourself. Photos. Emailing yourself documents all this sort of thing, whereas on here, if I use anything on Google Docs, if I take pictures, if I get emailed, anything I can save it straight to Google Drive, or it will just automatically upload to Google photos. So then, when I switch to going onto my laptop to using the photos or using the videos for any sort of resources, any sort of social media content, anything like that, it is simple because I literally just log on to Google online and I can download everything onto my laptop.

So there's no kind of in-between process that you need to do. You don't need to sort of stick it into an email and email it over to your laptop it just automatically uploads, and it's right there, and it doesn't cost a penny extra, so we're there only being 64 gigabytes it. It doesn't bother me whatsoever because, if it starts to get full I will just delete them off my phone, but they'll still be safe on my Google photos or Google Drive online. So, as I said earlier, the screen or display is 5.6 inches. There is a 3a XL version which is 6 inches, but, as I said earlier, I prefer the smaller size.

It just means it's easy to fit into one hand, and you can type easily and work your apps and everything with one hand. It's a really high definition screen with a resolution of twenty to twenty by ten. Eighty, obviously, the other bonus that you have with buying a Google product that you've got Android 10, currently in its pure form, straight from Google. You've got no manufacturer overlays, because Google owned Android comes straight from Google, so this sort of phones is actually the only phones that you've got Android in their pure form. The only downsides to choosing the three AAA, really, in my opinion, to the pixel, 3 or pixel 4, is that it's very slightly slower than those two and then there's no wireless charging.

Ok! So moving on to the camera, the big question that you've been waiting for Google took the camera from the Google Pixel 3 and the pixel 3 XL and put it into this little bad boy. So the camera is literally no different from its of Big Brother's phone. So for me, in my opinion, as a photographer, this camera is brilliant. It is 12 megapixels, so it's not as big megapixels or some of the other phones out there, but the quality and the condition of the colors. All that sort of thing I think it's absolutely brilliant.

I'll show you some examples of some photos that I've taken on this phone here. I use it all the time for my social media now before I, wouldn't ever take any phone photos to put on my social media because they weren't anywhere near as good quality. As any of my camera photos now, I really appreciate the quality. This camera I think the camera is obviously not as good as a DSLR, but it is brilliant for phone cameras, and you've got that kind of bonus of being able to have the blur in the background. So you've got that kind of depth of field going on as well, which you don't have in a lot of the older models of phones and another thing that I love is that it has sort of some slight smoothing settings as well as, while you're actually taking the photo.

So if you're taking a photo of people, are you taking a selfie and it just kind of smooth your skin out, but still make the photo? Look really natural and defined as well, which is just perfect for me, with a little of acne that I've got and stuff like that. It just kind of smooth it over makes your skin look a bit more fresh. So you've got your portrait option within the camera so that just kind of blurs the background, all the foreground. So you can choose your focus point, and then it will naturally add in sort of that depth of field that all the effects that you would get from a DSLR camera where, if you were kind of on a small sort of f-stop, so that's brilliant because it just makes these photos come out a lot more professional-looking on the front. Here you have an 8 megapixel selfie camera.

So if you want to go ahead and take a selfie, you know it's still going to be perfect quality. It's not going to come out really pixelated. Another thing that I love about the camera is that it has a brilliant light mode. So if you're taking a photo in the evening or inside in a slightly darker setting, you can just switch it to night mode, and it will brighten the photo up without it. Looking really artificial, so your standard phone camera will often take a photo, and it will flash, and the photo will just look really horrible.

It will just your face, will just be really overexposed or overblown and everything in it behind. You are really dark, whereas with the Google Pixel three-eighth night mode, it just naturally lightens the photo, but still keeping it nice and sharp and not pixelated like you might find. If you took a picture in a normal set with normal settings and then tried to lighten it with editing afterwards. So that is just a really great bonus for any phone owner, because we all take pictures in the evening. We all take pictures with our friends parties or events the fireworks, all that sort of thing, there are loads of different settings where we will take photos on our phones in the dark and, to be honest, they're, never really great pictures they're, not pictures that you'd want to pop.

In the frame so having that night mode on the Google Pixel 3-8 is just perfect for all this sort of settings. If you wanted to take a decent picture in the evening, you've got it. They've got you covered. The other thing. I love about this phone is the integration with Google assistants.

So it has this or squeeze technology. So you squeeze the side of the phone at the bottom and Google Assistant will appear and obviously then you can talk to it like any other virtual assistant, Siri Elector, all this sort of things- Google, assistants, brilliant you can, it can be voice-activated, or you can squeeze it on these phones. If you're wanting to get a decent phone that takes good photos, it has all your apps has all a good cloud. Experience has a good virtual assistant, experience and stuff. This is exactly what you should be going for.

I, don't think, there's any point in paying for that flagship phone. You know a thousand pounds or whatever for a phone. If those are the kind of important points that you want from your phone because for me, I, don't really need anything more than this. The camera is second to none for this little price range and that whole kind of process of uploading onto Google and stuff is really brilliant. The fact that you've got Android in its purest form- it's just perfect.

You know it's not quite any sort of manufacturers overlays over the Android system, so it's not going to kind of cause. Any problems from outside of Android and you've got all this kind of other systems that I've talked about. It's really a brilliant thing for photographers and creative entrepreneurs. So if you're looking to get a new phone and you're wondering which one to go for I highly recommend the Google Pixel 3a, it's so much more affordable and really brilliant quality in all those sorts of areas. One last thing I did want to mention.

Is this phone case so because the Google Pixel 3a has that kind of virtual squeezed technology for the virtual assistant? You don't want a solid, really hard phone case, because obviously that's going to restrict the movement of you being able to squeeze the side of the phone, so this is just brilliant. So it's a clear silicon ESR phone case, but it has this of metal kickstand, which I have found invaluable as a creative entrepreneur, because you can set it up, you can talk to it on Facebook live or Instagram live. You can set it up, but kind of it's got basically its own little selfie stand or something like that, and it can be set up on its end or set up on the side, and then it tucks straight back in it's really sturdy. I've got no worries of that snapping or breaking its $13.99 on Amazon at the minute, so go ahead and order one of these if you've already got a Google, pixel, 3a or you're looking to get one because I think it's literally the perfect case, you can still see the color of the phone that you chose in the background, but it's also really sturdy going to protect it and gives you that extra bonus opportunity of being able to pop it out on a stand and kind of have it hands-free. So I hope you enjoyed that quick little review there.

It's a brilliant phone for creative businesses, loads of storage. Those are all the different things that I've told you about. So, just let me know in the comments below if you're thinking about buying one I've popped a link vote below, so you can go straight ahead and order one now, if you're really interested in getting one, but thank you so much for listening make sure you don't forget to subscribe and like and share and do all of those great things to just help me along this little business way, and I'll see you guys really soon, I'm always cheering you on you.
