Google Pixel 3 XL - Battery & Charging (Review)

Hey guys and gals Danny Boy here and today, I have the Google Pixel 3 XL, and what I want to talk about in this video is the battery and charging capabilities of this phone just kind of where this phone stands as far as battery life and my experience with it now I use this phone as my daily driver for about three weeks exactly okay, so three weeks, my daily driver used it just like I, would use any of my phones that I'm daily driving used it primarily with little to no other devices. Okay. So let's talk about my battery experience, okay, so for starters, the battery capacity on the Google Pixel 3 XL here is 34 30 William hours; ok, 3,430, ok, so that, and especially here in 2020, that's kind of a modest number. It's definitely not the best. We've seen it's not like I'm using my 1 plus 7 Pro to film this video. This phone here has a 4 thousand William hour battery.

You know that feels a little more comfortable got a little more juice to it. This is more on me. What I would call average side now. My Galaxy Note 8 that I had a while back it had a 3300 William hour, so it was a little less than this okay. So now you know I'm generally off charged 12 to 13 hours and a given day.

Okay. So what I found was with this particular the Google Pixel 3xl by the end of the day, I would have anywhere from 40 to 50 percent battery life left. Okay, that's definitely not it's good, as I've gotten with some other phones- okay, for instance, the OnePlus 7 pro yeah, usually around 65 70 percent, with the same usage at the end of the day. So you can kind of see there is about a 25% gap there give or take okay, so the battery life on this phone. It's definitely what I would call average it's not bad, because even having 40% left at the end of the day, that's still pretty good, but it's definitely not like a two-day phone without charging.

You are gonna, probably need to charge this phone every night. Okay, so- and some reasons for this might be well for starters- should get this always-on display. Okay and that's always going if you got it on, so that's probably hitting the battery I've not tried it with it off I would imagine if I turned it off. I would probably gain I, don't know five ten percent, maybe even fifteen percent by the end of the day, I've not tried it, but that is definitely something that could be done to make the battery life better and then the other probably problem is this phone. Has a quad HD display and that's a great thing, but you cannot be downscale to 1080p for whatever the reason Google doesn't let you turn the display down to 1080p to save on battery life if they did that.

That would probably help immensely, but unfortunately there's just not that option, so you're stuck with running the display at quad, HD and unfortunately, that's gonna, hit your battery life and then probably a third thing and I had this issue on my pixel three AXL was that this display is just not very bright and because of that, I usually find that I'm keeping my display. You know around 75 to 95 percent on brightness to feel what my cm some phone would feel at. You know to 60 or 70 percent level, so the display brightness is a little lacking here and as a result, you cranked it up. Well, that's going to hit your battery life. So that's another thing and I.

You know, I, don't know if Google and proved upon that with the pixel for phones. Maybe they did improve the brightness and battery I. Don't know my understanding is I thought I heard someone say the pixel for battery wasn't still wasn't up to par. I. Don't know about that.

You'd have to do your own research on that, but you know those three things I think kind of damper the battery life on this phone. Of course, you can turn off the oles on display, but again you kind of want that. You know your kind of want that feature rolling at least I do, so I kind of hate to turn it off, but I suppose if I was going to have a heavy day with the phone. If I was on vacation, taking lots of pictures or shooting video I might turn it off. You know to kind of conserve the battery life as far as charging this device.

It comes packaged with a standard wall charger with the USB, cable and I. Think I think it's an 18 watt charger I think it's the same charger that came with my three AXL. So the charging speed on this corded wise. It's relatively fast, it's decent! It's good enough. Furthermore, it charges up and a good amount of time.

You know from the low you know from 10% to a full charge. It's probably an hour and a half give or take something like that. But you know you definitely got it good, they're, decent there and then, as far as wireless charging. Yes, this phone does have it. We have a glass back here and charges up, fine wirelessly, I wireless charge.

It sometimes and I corded charge it other times just depending on what situation I'm a but I, definitely, definitely like having the wireless charging. You do not have that on the lesser lower end model of this phone, the three AXL that was kind of one thing that you know you might kind of miss on the three AXL versus this phone, especially now that these phones, you know this phone can be had I, would say four not much more than a three AXL. So that being the case, you know it might be a better option to go with the three XL here: I, don't unless you want to just to save a little of money, but you definitely have more what the wireless charging and that respect. So you know of this whole entire phone, the battery life, it's probably the most average thing to the phone. It's probably the one thing that I would declare average, while everything else is good or great okay.

So, if you need a long-lasting heavy-duty battery, I, don't think the 3xl is where you'll want to look. But again it's good. It's just not great. It's not awesome. Furthermore, it's not terrible.

You know 40 to 50 percent. For me, at the end of the day, that's okay I, definitely like having 65% more in case I forget to charge my phone or whatever, but it is what it is guys. So that's my thoughts on the battery and charging of this phone, as always guys, if you're enjoying my videos, be sure to subscribe to the channel and, of course, hitting that thumbs up button helps as well, but for now guys peace out.
