Google Pixel 2 Talk - 24hrs to go

Our live. We're live, hey, guys, you're, watching Schrader puzzle here, hi, jams ax, and today, if the title didn't give it away. This is all about the Google Pixel 200 miles away well a little over twenty-five o'clock tomorrow. UK time, I think about 9:00 a. m. this time, where the actual main events being held yeah not long.

Now, we've been waiting for this one for quite a while, really to really listen. It feels like one of the last big phones, yeah yeah. You can kind of gauge them around the chipset yeah, the snapdragon 835, the first one that was announced with that chipset was the Sony Xperia x8 premium, yeah yeah, and that was MWC. So this chips, it's been around a fair amount of time. We're still excited yeah, definitely yeah.

So that's what we think is going to be inside the pixel -. There's, no one to be anything else inside it's gonna, be the Snapdragon 83 5 yeah. We know have been crazy. Like there was speculation, it would be the snapdragon 836 MMM, like they did with a 2-1, which is a slightly revised version. Just give it a little of just, but the problem is the a35 didn't need that the 88, when he didn't even a 2-1, because there were so many issues, there's so many little Lewis little niggles with it, while the 85 has just been consistently brilliant.

So why? Why do anything to it exactly? But we are dumping this into the detail on this phone before we even get to say hello guys. This is a live show, and it has made all the better by you throwing your comments, thoughts, feelings into the live chat unless there are abusive, in which case yeah but, like I, said we're really, really looking at your comments, so we're going to read them in a second you're, not really subscribed to Schrader or subscribe it that helps us out massively and check the description below for our written rumor, roundup piece. But what sparked this video is a leak from yesterday Human blasts, he leaks whatever you want to call him Evan. He leaked a picture of the pixel to insult and that's what we've used in our custom thumb. So we credited him in the description and a credit to him for that as well.

It's the most clear picture that we've seen to date. Yeah, it presses picture, isn't is its a full-blown render? It's not anything. That's been taken on a manufacturing on a manufacturing line or anything like that. This is what the final phone will look like exactly. It's probably a marketing shots be honest.

It's probably what will appear in some marketing shots, because it looks great yeah. Furthermore, it does see. Let's cool it looks, do anything else right now. That is what's interesting. I think.

Is this whole? If you can see the photo right now, I'm assuming edge, you know, I'm sure if you've seen the thumbnail, that's it, but I'm going to wall. You check your check. I'm gonna, get into Evans Twitter and paste the link into the live sure when that appears, you'll see the two-tone design of it, which is fascinating. Actually, you've got I think it's usually a darker tone on top and then, as you get, does the fingerprint sensor. It then moves into those like the lower three-quarters of the phone is usually a lighter color.

It looks like we're. Going to have three colors as well looks like a just black version, which is get rid of that to time a black-and-white version. They go those still the two-tone on the chest, black black-and-white version and a blue version and a blue version. So there's also a white version there as well. So all the links were pointing to the black-and-white one only doing on the XL yeah and the other ones.

The regular one then what's different about the last pixel is the fact that this time around you've got two fundamentally different designs across both yeah you've gone to a regular pixel coming in at around five inches screen size with the traditional bezels up top and bottom, and you've got the pixel XL coming in at around six inches, and there have been a few Oh issues with the room. Is yes some points? It's an 18 by 9. There are no, so some rumors have just said. The pixel to Excel will be as similar things that pixel XL, where it was a 5.5-inch screen 16 by 9 ratio, while some rooms for the pixel to Excel have been switching over to an 18 by 9 ratio. So keeping up with things like the Samsung Galaxy S, an in the note 8 and a lot of these phones we've seen this year, but with a HD panel, that's nearing 6 inches.

So at the moment we're not really sure what we're going to see and that's quite exciting, really yeah I, don't actually know, there's been so many complaining versions and stuff. But this image does look like it's legit, and also it makes sense, because LG is rumored to be making the bigger version of the 2, and they've just like unveiled area, they're v30, which also six ninja. What HD display they have made their own OLED technology. They came out and the news, though, that Samsung will be making more money from having their OLED display on Apple's, iPhone X and my phone 10. Then they have made from their own Samsung Galaxy S8, because they're obviously not charging themselves.

What they're charging Apple, if LG, who, like we've all know, hasn't necessarily been smashing it in the mobile world? Oh yeah, oh yes, can make a huge amount of money by making Polaroids for other people. That would be awesome for LG and plus a v30 is stunning, and that screen is one of the best things about it. That's on this I'm excited yeah. Definitely I would say for locale supposed to be honest, I'd think even a small one, even the small while I think it does. It does, but still I'm still want to see what it's like.

Yes, like I, do I'm really excited to see what it's like. Probably the big thing for design for a lot of people, though, is in Lewis at the headphone jack is gone on both versions of the phone, though headphone jack at all, so you can be using Bluetooth headsets for this or through the USB-C port at the bottom of the phone it that looks almost certain, though, to be honest, like I, don't think, we've seen any rumors now that point to a head, yeah I, like being there I think you could have just taken the taking the really a lot of manufacturers are doing now and just getting rid of it. Sorry guys if you're upset about that yeah I just have the only people, not ironically at LG whom to make this phone there are. So it's an interesting one or so what about the squeeze tech? Oh, yeah! That's how HTC introduced with the U 11 this like squeeze tech, that lets you squeeze the side of your phone, and you can come like have a long squeeze open, Amazon, Alexa, a short squeeze open, Google Assistant, a double squeeze open your camera. It got really confusing.

Yeah, I didn't use it, but it you 11 was such an amazing phone. Yes still, but it's coming on these. Why I think its innovation for the sake of innovation? Isn't if they're just trying to pull that feature, are either to try and have something a little different, but that's not a different. We saw an HTC six. My support, a big plus, a big chunk of HTC, so yeah.

Why not bring that feature squeeze to Google assistant Rob, because I think half the problem with the squeeze tech on the 11 was there are too many digital assistants? It's like we don't need another euro digital assistant, so like what you end up with is a confusing experience. If this is just Google Assistant great in terms of the design on both IP 68, water and dust resistant, it looks like it yeah again. That's still quite strange room below there's not really been any definitive rumor for the waterproofing. No cell phone without a headphone jack has been ip68 almost every phone that headphones, oh yeah, you've got the Motor Series yeah, but we have seen we have seen. Managers do it before with the headphone jack as well, so I'm, always a little skeptical observe if I'm saying it needs to get rid of the headphone before me.

Yeah, I get runs, hang on Sony quiet these days back to me, they do a lot of stuff, pretty, pretty frequent about four or five years now, where they had a waterproof phone with a headphone jack on it. So it's not it's not purely down together having a headphones like getting rid of the headphone jack for waterproofing. It is its a choice that they're making but yeah whether that means the phone. This phone is gonna, be particularly thin. That might be a different that might be.

That might be right. We've got a whole load of questions. The first from Henry Matthews that I completely stole for my last point was: does it feature IP 68 windows, just answered that? Why are you asking about every first question in the room? So now I really appreciate your eagerness and actually the con. Sir, is we don't know check back tomorrow, but we reckon it will yeah Marco Hernandez, says hi Toby Evan says hi little guy says hi DJ PRS says hi, and what is the price of the pixel -? Okay, so price at the moment, looks like it'd, be a similar price to the pixel for the pixel ?, so we're looking at $649 or in pounds I think it's about 599 pounds. Those were the launch prices for both of these fans.

Yeah, so expensive. And now that, like you know all the currency stuffs that in post-exam be are exit, probably be pounded for Builder, just like you've seen with Apple yeah, but one of the room is so far, but one of the one sources said yeah. The price will be similar to the pixel for the pixel ?, while the pixel 2x elk is packing all these extra features and the and the brand-new screen tech is going to be quite a bit more immense. The pixel X L was so the picture was around, but no sorry. Actually, the rumor was that the pixel 2 XL will be $200 more than the original pixel was so that's working, 600, no Auto in $649 we're talking at least $849 with.

What's that kind of, like around 750 pounds, probably a bit more than that yeah I'd expected to be 800, quid Australian I'm, not really sure on the pricing but yeah. If we're talking the top end again, we're not talking iPhone X levels, and we're probably not talking Galaxy Note 8 levels, but we're talking LAP 30 kind of levels, again: yeah 709, pounds of LG, b, 30s, so yeah. We are talking that kind of level of price, and it does seem to be packing a lot of the top-end features. Yeah, like it's, not unload, yeah. Ok with that.

Just because what I miss with the pixel series was what they had with the Nexus series, where they had a lower end, one though yeah more affordable and what they've got they've kind of done, and I'm hoping this is gonna, be a more affordable, the lowering one hmm if it ends up being around 400 to 500 pounds. There will be such a fair price and give you flagship, issue experiences with that chipset no puzzle, yeah I, know I know, but like totally reading, one almost and that's what the pixel 2 should be in price. In my opinion, I think that kind of price point would make the most sense and then have this amazing phone, yeah I know in Korea and everything so Jack fosters, it's out of your budget. Yes, for that, it's going to be high, essentially especially for the XL version. So if you're looking for that version, start saving now I'm going to say bit, yeah you've got about two weeks to save so probably yeah, probably no long enough.

So we've got a question from Marco. Mr. Marco super vocal. What about battery life so the pixel XL? We had an amazing like three thousand four hundred million battery or in that region, and it was perfect. That's eight to one wasn't as efficient as 835.

That said, with 3300 in the LGA 30 I mean I'd almost put money, but that's what it's going to be because they've got the design it basically borrowed design from the 830 yeah. I have seen another room mother thinks it's even more than that. That would be amazing yeah. They were talking about 3500, Williams and again with the snapdragon 835. That sounds like it could be amazing battery life in credit fingers core.

I would love that, while the pixel 2 looks to be having a smaller battery than the original pixel, so that might suffer for it, but also it's got a snapdragon 83 5. It's really well optimized, like with probably talking we're, probably talking similar battery life, if not a tiny bit better yeah, then the last pixel so fingers crossed battery life should be strong, but we're not going to know that until we get our full reviews, yeah, which will be coming in the next few weeks. We hope I mean I remember the last one. Google didn't even tell us the Williams. They wanted to go madly with all the launch pen.

So it's really, really easy. We've mined out the many amps we have a number to work with and then use our guesstimating yeah. So reporter you have to wait for tear downs if they decide to do that again, where people get the phone in yes, start pulling it apart and find out how much Williams are exactly or maybe some other and some other leaks or something will tell us, is up right, the exact size, but we're not going to know for certain until we start using on a daily basis and stop finding out how well it works exactly, exactly so do. Do we have a question? How do you feel about the thicker bezels on the smaller phone jams from jet c? Thanks for that um, I would feel more okay with it if it was a cheaper price yeah. I think if it was that lower end that you were talking about if it went to that nexus model way had the cheaper model, and then you went over to the really expensive model.

If you want the newer features, that would have been a bit cooler yeah all that excited about it, though. If it is the now you excited about the big one. Yeah, I'm excited about the big one, so yeah that that looks like the thrilling one, because we are, we're just getting tired of bezels. Now really yeah also I mean with the pixel and pixel XL. We've seen stock Android on that exact screen size with that exact form factor, maybe not size, but resolution Full HD, even if it's quad HD we've seen that before, but we haven't seen 18 by 9 and it would be really nice when LG introduced the 18 by 9 aspect ratio at Mobile, World Congress.

They made a massive deal about the user interface being optimized, because it's two by one they had like lots of squares in the UI top half bottom half things like multitasking and everything. If that's baked into the UI, the two by one I, think that would be a really nice one, the LG and I multitask and that kind of stuff. And what LG's doing is sorry LG, Google and doing is something that I think Apple could have done with their making it a bit less confusing, rather than releasing that is 8 + and the 8 hmm and then the X they're releasing them, hopefully that all come at the same time, and you've got one super-duper device like you're talking about and one safe device yeah and then yeah. So if it was cheap it if it is cheaper because it hasn't been announced, yet fingers crossed five hundred pounds or fewer I'd. Be super, super happy.

I just know someone's question there. Let me just find it max de Saussure gonna, say sorry for mispronounced that someone talk about the pixel ultra. So this is a leek that we saw about two days ago or so whether it suggests that there be a third phone which is again an all amazing phone, but actually look like the leek was the pixel to excel I'm inclined to I, don't really believe in the source. At the moment, I find to believe that there's still will only be two phones, I, don't think they're going to go that model of the iPhone X. Then again, I also said they wouldn't do the iPhone X, and they just have two phones.

So what do I know, but yeah I think yeah I, don't think it would be three handsets tomorrow. I think it will be two handsets and there'd be quite a big difference between the pixel two and the pixel to Excel, rather than having that kind of middle model or the iPhone 8, plus yeah, so yeah I, don't think the ultra pixel was going to happen and if it does happen, it'll probably be a renaming of the pits of to excel yeah yeah yeah, exactly fair. So in terms of the internals with what do we know about things like okay? So we've spoken about the processor, oil and Snapdragon 835. What about storage capacities? Non-Expandable right, yeah, probably not expandable I, think one of the rumors says 6040 128 gigs by bit of a shame: they're not there to five six still Andrew 28 is still quite enough for a lot of people so yeah. Absolutely that's.

Probably going to have a cloud integration story as with all devices from Google Pixel devices, so unlimited uploads from your photos, yep they're scaled down to 5 megapixels, which is cool, or actually it's full resolution right. Unlimited cloud, storage, right yeah, so that's cool in terms of connectivity, snapdragon 835, could potentially open it up to one gig download speeds, but we've seen that being capped in the past. If ET here in the UK's involved, it will probably be the next device to have one key download speed to s8 on paper and the note 8 sorry could have it and the Enos was capable of it, but it was always cap to 800 in the UK Sony's kind of had exclusivity on that. So hopefully that will be happening. Some of you guys are also asking about Google Lens.

Oh, cool I. Don't know that much about this and you neither I. Generally. Don't I've been away for the last week, so I'm kind of a catching up on all of these rumors exactly whether this will actually happen? Yeah I, don't know if it's something we're really going to hear that much about tomorrow. It's like a big speed, yeah.

It is kind of big speed levels and yeah within I. Think it's partly within Google Assistant and then partly it's gonna, be like you're going to get some extra features with the pixel I. Think I, don't know. If we're going to hear all that much about it tomorrow, I think probably something they rolled out a little later, but I don't know. Maybe it's something every fascinating to see.

If any of you guys now that Bixby started rolling out, if any of you guys have been using it I've been using it quite a lot actually, and I'm finding it super hit-and-miss when it hits hard, and I'm like wow, that's really, really cool and then, when misses it misses harder yeah. If you guys have been using it. That would be interesting. You guys also well John. Porter says we need to get to the important stuff, and that is the battery life.

Now Mr. bored's we've already spoken about battery life. Yeah, come on. What's the whole video, will it compare to the Lenovo p2? He asks probably not what this space bear. Probably not.

If you want a device, that's gonna, compare to the Lenovo p2 check out the before 4 max got hands-on tones and phone a couple of weeks ago. That's got a five thousand William battery in it, so that was many amps more I think is check that out more questions. You guys are obsessed with a headphone jack tech. World channel does sorry guys find Jack not likely yeah, it's it. It's 90% certain! Basically, you know all the room so far suggested no ? Jack, it's just kind of the nature of what we're doing like what we're looking at the moment.

A lot of phones seem to be losing it. It's kind of a shame but yeah. It's not something front firing. Speakers yeah, maybe hopefully, that maybe that will be the reason for the losing the headphone jack, not the reason for losing yeah we've never seen a front firing. Speakers setup on a device with an 18 by 9 display didn't have confirmation whether the iPhone ex had front-facing speakers from firing, even though he died for an eight, an eight plus D which allowed it in their predecessors, and they're.

So, so good I'm looking at the renders of the Google Pixel to not the Excel, it totally looks like it could have it, but it almost feels like if I was Google I wouldn't be against the idea of taking it off. Hmm, so I didn't make the big one look cheaper! Hmm, so you never know it may be curtailed functionality and might not I, don't think it will, and if it does, it's setting a precedent which everyone needs to follow, because it's a massive deal for me yeah. So thank you for that question. Max Sousa. All in caps, stop the zooming take note.

Thank you for that very, very happy message. John Porter thanks, guys appreciate, appreciate the advice you're not as bad as everyone says. You are you're very kind. Yeah Paul, Keegan I'll be looking to move to pixel XL from iPhone 7, pixel, XL or pixel to excel from the iPhone 7. The pixel XL, probably not the word the upgrade, and that actually brings us to one of the best things about the pixel XL and what will hopefully be one of the best things about this, and that is the camera, so the camera rumors are all pointing to existing, having potentially the biggest sensor of any smartphone to physically the sensor module or the census around sorry around the back.

The cameras around this is big, almost as a fingerprint scanner. That's been reiterated by the leaks that TV league's posted that are linked to earlier and as a result, potentially, if it has bigger pixels, it can get more lighting, and this could be the low like champion. Even though there's a dual camera phone. They have to be really confident and not go for a dual camera phone yeah right now, even Samsung we've actually finally made that jump in I mean it's assisting in the before 4, which is a mid-range up on a 6x which is a mid-range you've, got it across entire portfolios. So to not do a dual camera phone is brave, so then yeah they've got to be certain.

This is gonna, be working, I, think it's a 13, megapixel camera. So again, quite small megapixel count as well: solo yeah, and if they're going to go excellent, pixel route, then it won't have optical image stabilization and not having optical image. Stabilization could potentially hurt it. Slow line performance compensated for a bigger set with a bigger sensor. You never know how it's going to go.

I'm super hopeful, yeah, the pixel and pixel exile really impressed when it came to video that electrical image stabilization on that was so good MMM and the camera picture quality, especially after the first few updates people. Yeah, people really loved the camera on the pixel. It got better yeah, it did get better, but I'd still don't think it was anything like in auto mode was just how I used most of my phones. I didn't think it was that stunning, but a lot of people really loved it. So yeah, hopefully, Google, have really liked.

Don't down on that this year, and they've they're trying to make this phone the big camera phone, the big number one phone for taking pictures and on the front it looks like it would be, a seven-meter pixel, selfie cameras just like the iPhone and if I think Google's really trying to compete with the iPhone 10 committees with 8, maybe leaving the 8 plus and the wayside alone limit. So a few last questions before we sign off for the day put some decent that blink great username. Do you feel Google are reverting to the Nexus line, but keeping the pixel name with the two different manufacturers? Now that's a perfect point: yeah yeah, we'll, never see this kind of price, no kind of experiment.6P was quite expense. It was at the time yeah I didn't get more before that when we had the Nexus 6 level when that kind of thing- and we were getting some quite experimental phones like a phone- was massive at the time. It was absolutely huge so in terms of actual size, so I don't really think there'd.

Be that confident in playing around with stuff anymore. But you get the benefits of the Nexus line by getting a software first and I. Think you get most of the benefits there. The only benefit you really lose out is probably the price yeah yeah. So it's same dude.

Put that not gonna, try and say you use them. Apologies for mispronunciation mispronouncing. Do we know if the pixel actually sold? Well, no I'm, not certain, actually have seen any official. Yeah, I don't see any official figures, they went, they went harder Mona, they were like really hard yeah. We live in London, and we saw Mustang everywhere yeah.

We did like this. Google blue, like it was in vogue or something yeah like of the blue, Edition, the very blue or extremely blue or mightily blue. Everyone was kinda blue kind of live yeah. It was like linked with these jeans that were designed by this and designer Christian. How we stand with something, and it was just like what are you doing? Yeah, yeah billboards were like the size of buildings here it was absolutely insane the way they went marketing on this, and that's probably how they're going to get people to actually buy this phone over a Samsung or over an iPhone, so yeah I'm, not sure on the cells in the original pics or don't think they were.

They were stunning, but they were clearly good enough to keep on, and they're trying to build a brand name here. They're trying to, and actually the Google Pixel was one of the phones last year that a lot of people came up to me and asked me: should I buy this phone when they were looking at other androids? Usually they were looking at. There were the kind of people who actually know who actually the kind of people who were buying on my phones asking about pixel and asking about page I was like yeah, actually you're, not the person who I would recommend a picture to at this stage, but make this time around things will change yeah. It was a. It was really strange.

There Maxime really hit hard last time, so I think. Hopefully the sales would be even better. This one yeah they've built the brand awareness around the pixel name, exactly um, well, that single camera of the pixel to Excel be better than the v30 dual cameras will now hates your cameras. I think that it won't necessarily be better or worse. We can't say that for sure, but one thing that we can set with is it will offer less versatility unless it has an optical zoom in there what's great about the other.

Two is you've got two focal ranges so especially the v30, with its wide-angle loads and loads of utility. There they've also tapered back the post-processing that was hampering the g6s camera, and there now has optical image stabilization across the two time, zoom in a single camera. So those two devices are excellent if they can just fundamentally get the core camera better, though I think a lot of people and nine times out of ten myself included would pick that yeah I think people still I've stood by this every single time. That I think people just want to be able to pick their phone out of the pocket and take a photo very, very quickly. It's great having all these extra features and trying it and trying to play around with them.

But that's what you usually use a camera for when you're taking a picture on your phone, you just want BAM, shoot them, and so, if, if you're going to know that- and they can just take the best picture every time straight out, the gate, and you'd have to play with any kind of Pro features or anything like that. Maybe that's going to be a big deal for them. Amazing I know I, think we're. We are wrapping up now, but we have a few quick, shout-outs before we go Samuel Houghton. Thank you for asking the same question as someone else hope it got answered max this you.

So you have been very, very vocal appreciate that it makes this chat worthwhile Viral is going to County. Do you think there'll be a new launcher, I think it's going to be stuck Oreo yeah yep um I'll go deep pal? All of you guys, Josh wigwam whitehead great, really appreciate you jumping on these guys any additional questions, fire them in the comments section below once we sign off yeah, don't forget to subscribe to the channel and head over to techradar. com link in the description where you can see the entire article that this man over here has been updating for the last few months. Sure yeah and the launch is tomorrow afternoon so be sure to check back to Schrader. Then, where you'll see all the coverage come live when it's actually announced will be even the next few hours of that, Lisa will be trying to cover it soon, as possible.

I'm also going to have Muzzle at the event doing some lovey-dovey video, exactly I'm will be in San Fran as well. Yeah, we're going to do some taking it from every corner, yeah we're going all over, and then we'll probably talk a little about it again on Thursday and our livestream. So come back for that as well. Definitely thanks guys have a great one guys bye, bye.
