Galaxy S9 vs Razer Phone! Can S9 Beat the Gaming King?

What's up and welcome to the episode of gizmo slept Tech today, we're going to be comparing the galaxy s.9 and the razor phone I have been using the razor phone for a couple of months now and I have to say I do really like it a lot. It was originally marketed as a phone for gamers like that was literally the tagline for it, but I think the audience for the razor phone is actually a much broader than just for gamers. You might fall into that category of people that might really enjoy the razor phone. So let's go ahead and hop into a comparison between the galaxy s 9 and the razor phone. Now this video is not sponsored by razor. This is my honest opinion.

If I ever do a sponsored, video I will be sure to let you guys know up front that this is a sponsored, video and I want to get out there. I'm gonna talk about the razor found a little auto positive light, but the galaxy s 9 is superior in many obvious ways, but there are other reasons that the razor phone can be quite compelling. If you give it a chance and that's why I wanted to make this video, because I think the razor phone is a legitimate option even now in 2018, and especially if razor doesn't raise your phone ? or updates the existing razor phone maestro thing, I call it yet and also before we get started, I want to mention that we were doing a galaxy s.9 giveaway link in the description, if you want out of that ends, March 31st, let's go ahead and hop into this comparison right now. Let's start this off by talking about the design differences between the two, the galaxy s, 9 features a 5.8, much narrower and taller display. The Xes 9 plus features a 6.2 inch display. We're gonna primarily be talking about the S 9 versus the razor phone there, similarly priced, but many of these same things will apply to both of these phones.

Even though the razor phone is 5.7 inches long, it's actually technically a much bigger display because it's at a 16 by 9 aspect ratio, which is a wider, more full media experience. In my opinion, the major advantage of an 18 and a half by 9 aspect ratios in my opinion, is that you get a larger display in a smaller size, easier to hold overall and easier to use one hand and because the razor phone is a 16 by 9 aspect ratio. It's going to be wider in your hand, so you have to have fairly large hands to be able to use it at all one-handed. It feels as large as a note 8, even though it doesn't have as large of a screen. Now the S 9 features glass and metal on the front and back well.

The razor just has metal on the back. The glass back on the s9 allows for wireless charging, which is incredibly convenient, just be able to set your phone down. It's a lot easier to keep your phone topped off with wireless charging and the s9 features water and dust resistance, which is also incredibly nice couple things that do make a difference. The razor phone only has Gorilla Glass 3. Well, the ice 9 has Gorilla Glass 5.

The s9 also has a fingerprint sensor on the back. Well, the razor phone integrates it in the power button along the side, which I actually find incredibly convenient. Balls, fingerprint sensors work really well. The s9 also has a face recognition and iris scanning, which does work quite well, but I still like the idea of picking it up and as you're picking it up, you're pressing that fingerprint sensor, and so the phones already unlocked by the time you're looking at it or using it 90% of the time I'm using the fingerprint sensor. Even if I do have a facial unlock feature, that's 9 does retain the headphone port while the razor phone ops out of the headphone port, though it does have a headphone dongle included in the box overall, while the razor phone is very cool to look at very stylish and very well-made, the s9 clearly has a lot of little extra features that really add up in the design category here, so I've got to give the overall design to the s9.

One of the s9 major weaknesses, of course, is the glass back, which is just basically two sides of the phone can shatter on dropping it. So you'll definitely want to use a case. The galaxy s 9 has 20 to 30% more powerful processor, depending on which model you get US or international, but because of the blow where Samsung puts on the s9, it will have similar day-to-day performance. Since the razor phone is running an almost stock Android experience with the Nova Launcher. Now the thing is the razor phone is using 820 hertz display, and that means it will have much smoother overall performance, especially when doing basic things like scrolling through settings or web browsing and because of the quicker response time of the display.

You'll also feel like you're in better control over your phone. It may not seem like a big deal, but I've gotten totally addicted to the razor phone's, smoothness and responsiveness, so much so that it's really hard for me to go back to an Android experience. That's not over 100 Hertz, and I'm, not the only one that feels that way. MKB recently also tweeted something very similar. Major difference in performance going for the razor phone is the extra four gigs of ram that we'll have over the s9 or extra two gigs compared to the s9 plus.

This will allow more apps to stay open in the background, reducing loading time when you switch back to those apps, which is incredibly useful, but certainly not a massive jump in performance by comparison, both phones come with 64, gigs of storage and both have micros card slots, which I think is incredibly useful in a big thumbs up from me when it comes to RAW processing performance, the s9 is clearly in the lead. Just depends on what you're. Looking for, if you're going to be rendering lots of videos, the s9 will definitely have better performance, but you're looking for just day-to-day stuff, I'm, pretty sure the razor phone will provide a better overall experience, but I can't wait to do a speed test to verify that claim which will be coming soon when it comes to display quality. Each phone has its strengths. The s9 has a very vibrant and very colorful display with deep blacks, high levels of contrast.

It's like the ultimate video viewing experience in my opinion, while the razor phone has a 120 Hertz TO display. Basically, it's an IPS display good viewing angles, very colorful, but not very bright and not very high levels. Of contrast. Both displays have great color, but the s9 has a massive advantage when it comes to using your phone outdoors and direct sunlight. The razor phone is really hard to see in direct sunlight.

So if you use your phone outdoors a lot, that's nines a pretty clear winner in this category because of the stock Android experience and 120 Hertz display you'll find the razor phone to be the smoothest and most responsive Android experience to date. The only other true competitor, in my opinion, is the 1 + 5 t, but the OnePlus doesn't have the hundred twenty Hertz display. So this is, in my opinion, still the very best now I'm, not saying the s9 won't beat the razor phone in an app loading speed test because it probably would just barely but because of the 120 Hertz display I feel like I'm in control over my phone in a whole new way, and you just can't match that with a 60 Hertz display when it comes to the display. The s9 has a major advantage being much brighter much more colorful. But if you crave a fast and smooth Android experience, the razor phone is the phone for you.

Now when it comes to gaming, the s9 has a clear advantage with the improved processor and GPU, as well as a brighter more colorful display, but the razor phone also has some advantages. It has a much larger battery and on top of that, the display takes less power so that you're going to be able to game for longer. And, of course, you also have the 120 Hertz display, but which games? Can you even play at 120 Hertz on a mobile platform? Racer has worked with a number of game developers to get a bunch of games up to the 120 Hertz refresh rate racer did include a game booster app that allows you to set the resolution. The target frame rate, the CPU clock by reducing the resolution, upping the CPU and increasing the target frame rate. Most Android games will have a target frame rate of either 30 40 or 60 frames per second by adjusting the background target frame rate you're able to increase the overall frames per second, even on a mobile experience.

One cool thing about this is that you can also reduce the target frame rate if you're running low on battery, or you're going to have a really long gaming session. So you can have that really long battery life now Samsung has a similar app, but I found it wasn't this fully featured as the one on the razor phone? The razor phone also has two more advantages that are a little harder to notice at first, but make a big difference. The bezels on the sides actually make it easier to hold the phone and to game without accidentally touching the screen and that's something that's incredibly annoying about the galaxy s 9, because those curved edges make it really hard to actually not accidentally touch the display, if you're trying to hold it for games, even if the frames per second aren't over 60. Your response rate of the display on the range of phones is still going to be superior for quick response games. Overall, the razor phone is gonna, be fantastic for fast-paced.

High action games. Well, the Galaxy S times going to have that brighter more colorful screen enriching those slow paced games, where you don't really need that reaction, speed or higher frame rate. Now, as far as battery life goes, the galaxy s 9 has a 3000 mAh battery, while the razor phone supports a 4000 mAh battery, but the actual battery life that you're going to get out of the device can vary a lot depending on which settings you have set up on either phone. Now, if you reduce the resolution from 1440p down to 1080p you'll get about 30% more battery life, but on the razor phone you can also reduce the refresh rate from 120 down to 90 or 260. The bottom line is that the Razor phone is going to almost always have better battery life in almost all aspects, simply because of the increased battery size and the reduced power draw from a lower brightness screen.

So in battery life, the razor phone definitely wins now, as far as cameras go the s9 and the razor phones, both rock 12 megapixel shooters, while the razor phone has an additional 12, megapixel telephoto zoom ? 9 has a lot of advantages here. You've got super slow motion modes and a lot better low-light because of the increased aperture with at 1.5. That's going to allow it up to 28% more light than the s8. You also the fact that the razor phone is rocking camera sensors from the Galaxy S7. That means that the razor phones cameras are not bad per se they're, just not amazing, and they're, certainly far from top of the line, if you're super into having the best camera, the razor phone is clearly not for you get the galaxy s 9, but if you just need an OK camera for the occasional photo, the razor phone will definitely do the job.

Now the razor phone is $6.99, while the X 9 is 720 to 800 dollars, depending on which carrier you get it with. If you value a long battery life and having the smoothest possible Android experience, the razor phone very well might be for you, but if you value design, wireless charging, a headphone, jack water and dust resistance, a far better camera and the latest processor then get the galaxy s 9. And of course you have the brighter OLED panel as well I, personally heavily value having a hundred and twenty Hertz + display I. Have it on my monitor, I. Have it on my iPad I? Have it on my laptop, and why shouldn't I? Have it on my phone as well I'm addicted to having that extra smooth experience for now I'm retiring the razor phone and giving the s 9, plus a chance to win my heart over I'll? Let you guys know what I decide here in a few weeks.

So that's it for the comparison of the razor phone and the galaxy s 9 plus, which one would you buy, post your pain in the top-right and don't forget to enter that giveaway for the Galaxy S 9. That I mentioned earlier link in the description. If you want to check that out, that's it for this episode, we'll see you next time, Brahman out.
