Google Pixel 3 XL Review: The Smartphone Camera King

If you watch my channel, you know I recently did the best of 2018, and this guy made the list. This is the Google Pixel 3 Excel, one of my favorite smartphones for 2018. For one very good reason. This has the best camera setup on any smartphone in 2018 everybody, its Andrew- and this is my review of the Google Pixel 3 Excel, coming up wanna, see more videos like this. Well, why not hit that subscribe button and make sure you hit that notification icon this way, you'll be alerted every time, I post, a new video and don't forget to check me out on my social media, especially Twitter because. That's where I post all the latest updates now, just as a disclaimer I'm, not being paid by Google I'm, not being asked by Google to give a positive review.

There asked me to take a look at this device, give an unbiased, honest opinion and that's exactly what I'm going to do, so I just wanted to get that out of the way now Google sent me, the 64 gigabyte model is a 128 gigabyte model as well. Now this not pink color is really that it's not pink, it's more beige, and it has an orange accent. Button we'll talk about that in a moment, but really first impressions are. This is well-built nice, looking device actually now holding the pixel 3 Excel for the first time. First, things come to mind perfect finish: I, like this matte glass finish on the back, it's very premium, and it feels really great, and it has a good feel in the hand that has a nice size to it.

It's a USB-C port on the bottom, of course, as we'd expect, and you get obviously a 6.3 inch. OLED display it's powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, that's a flagship processor, of course, 4 gigabytes of RAM, either 64 or 128 gigabytes of on-board storage. That's your choice: a 30 for 30 William power battery. It supports 18 watt, fast charging and QI wireless charging. We'll talk about that in a minute, as well as the Google Pixel stand now in the box, you also get a sim ejector tool as well as a sticker from team pixel.

That's a nice little touch, and you get some documentation as well now, I have to say something they throw in a really nice pair of USB seat, earbuds they're, very high-end, very premium. But of course this doesn't have a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, which again is a bit of a negative, but I like the fact they give you a nice set of earbuds in the box and on a positive note, though they do throw in a 3.5 millimeter, it's USB adapter in the Box in case you do want to use your standard wired headphones now. They also give you USB a 2, USB, adapter, USB, C, cable and, of course, USB-C fast charge, adapter, we'll talk more about battery life and charging times later in this review now, team pixel also sent over very interesting case, not my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are people out there who certainly like it. It's built well, and it does protect the pixel 3, actually pretty good, now, turning it on for the first time. The first thing you're going to notice is the notch.

It's a little more pronounced, obviously than other smartphones, but they do have some functionality added into that notch. We'll talk more about that in just a little now this being a pixel device, you're going to be running the latest version of Android, it's Android, 9 or Android Pi, and you're going to be getting all the latest security updates, at least that's the theory behind the pixel devices. Now setting up the fingerprint sensor, which is located on the back, pretty good positioning and pretty easy to set up and like some HTC devices, this has a squeeze functionality, squeezing the sides will summon the Google Assistant. You know what I don't know. I haven't really used it at that.

Much to really give you an opinion one way or the other, it's okay, maybe gimmicky I, don't know! You tell me in the comment section what you think of it now you're. Looking at a six point, three inches OLED display with a little of an unusual resolution 2960 by 1440. It actually feels pretty good in the hands. As you can see here, it's not a small device by any stretch, but it's definitely manageable, and I like that. The designers are actually perfect as far as fitting in the hand.

Now it's a bright display at 424 nits, it's not the brightest, but you can use it indoors and outdoors, although in direct sunlight as you see here, it's not the best, but indoors is perfectly fine. That's a very vibrant display with some really deep blacks. Hallmarks of a very good OLED display I'm very happy with the bed on this. Although again the notch is a little pronounced for my taste, but again this functionality in that notch we'll get to that in a moment, and it covers the color gamut really well at a hundred and seventy percent RGB. That's excellent.

Now, because this is an OLED display, you'll have the always-on display, that's good to get some information you'd want right on the screen without actually turning the device on that's good, but without a doubt the star of this show are the cameras. Now, let's start with the front-facing dual cameras on the front, that's right! Dual cameras implement it here, so this is the front facing camera on the Google Pixel 3xl. Let me know what you think about it in that comment, section below it's actually pretty good. The cameras on the pixel 3xl are pretty excellent. I think these are some of the best on smartphones out there right now again, I want to know what you think.

Let me know, though, having dual lenses on the front certainly has its advantages. Here you have the standard lens. You can see just a certain amount in the background, but when you switch it to the wide-angle lens, you get a lot more in the background. So, as you can see, the wide-angle lens really is great. Now, as far as portrait mode is concerned, this is excellent.

The blurred background, the fact the bouquet effect is really phenomenal. On this camera, really the best I've ever seen, they've done a bang-up job. In my opinion, and switching it to the rear facing camera is even better. I mean look at the details in this photo. The blurred background of the bouquet effect is excellent.

I'm really impressed with this rear facing camera. To me, the killer feature that the Google Pixel 3xl provides, is called night sight. Look at the difference between night sight when it's on, and it's off I mean the one on the left was taken in almost pitch black. The one on the right is with night sight on. It looks like it's during the day.

That's how phenomenal this feature is. It's absolutely excellent. Now you have to understand the one on the left was taken in almost darkness. It was really dark. The Sun was already setting.

It was almost dark out, fully dark and on the right is with a night shot makes it almost seem like it's daylight. It's pretty phenomenal I mean take a look at this. Look at the detail on this photo I mean this is a phenomenal camera on the back. They could do with one lens. What other manufacturers can't do with multiple lenses? I mean this is pretty amazing check out some of these examples, so this is the rear facing camera on the pixel three XL 4k 30 frames per second image stabilization.

Let me know what you think about it in the comment section below look: how stable and fluid the video is. It's very steady, there's really very good implementation of image, stabilization very good, and you could also do slow-motion video. What this also looks great well you're, probably wondering well how's the performance, since this is a flagship processor, the Snapdragon 845 and here, as you can see from the Geek bench war test, it did well, although it wasn't the best in its category that belongs to the iPhone 10s, but this did well in its own right now, as you can see from the an tutu benchmark here, you can see it can game, it can do everything you'd want, as any other flagship would do so. Performance has been very good, no issues with that and as far as endurance is concerned, under normal use, you're looking at about a day's worth of battery on a single charge, it did nine hours and 38 minutes on my continuous web surfing test over Wi-Fi at 115. It's it did pretty well, as you can see when you compare it to its competition, although it wasn't the best.

It certainly was solid in its own right now. If you do need to plug in remember, it supports 18 watt fast charging, although it wasn't the fastest I've ever seen and actually took two hours and 49 minutes for full charge, which wasn't great by the way. So that's something interesting to take a look at now. Team pixel did send over the pixel stand. It's a wireless charger uses the QI standard and, as you can see, it looks pretty nice.

It has a nice rubber finish on the bottom, so it won't slip off the table. That's a nice little touch there. You get some documentation in the box as well as your power supply, and your USB, cable and set up was obviously pretty easy, and it looks nice on a table with that orange and white theme going on here and, as you can see, it does work well, it does charge pretty fast, but again, this will also give you some added functionality, such as summoning the Google Assistant and showing videos, photos, etc. You can set it up. I'll, maybe do a separate video on this, but overall I think it's pretty nice.

Now there are two front-facing speakers, one in the earpiece and one on the bottom, towards the chin and really sound good, and that's here at in action. One thing to know with this pixel 3 Excel is navigating through the OS with Android.9 is a little different. There are no navigation buttons. You use the slider mechanism on the bottom. As you can see, it's sort of like a little pill shaped button, and it actually works pretty well now some reviewers didn't like it I, really don't mind that I got used to it after a little of time with it and certainly got used to it.

So really, no issues and as far as I'm concerned, with the navigation on the pixel 3xl. Now the pixel 2 in to excel from last year had an ip67 rating. Well, Google is able to bump that off to an IP 68 rating this year the new devices can withstand the immersion in water of up to more than one meter and generally will work down to three meters. I, wouldn't put it in more than 30 minutes at a time, but again this is nice to see an IP 68 rating on this device. So what do you think about the Google Pixel 3 Excel, my favorite smartphone cameras for sure are on this device.

They did a fantastic job once again, great low-light, photography, great night shots. Everything you'd want to do with this. Camera is fantastic in terms of the results. I love it now. The OLED display is great, not a big fan of the notch, but again I can live with it because it has such good cameras I'm willing to live with that.

The stereo speakers on the front are great. I, have no complaints about that. Wish it had a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack it doesn't. They do give you a really nice set of ear buds to make up for it there USB. They also give you an adapter, so you can use your standard wired headphones if you want to, but I'm really what I really wish they did.

Have a 3.5, millimeter, headphone jack loved the textured glass back, although it is a little slippery, so you may want to get a case, but really nice design. As far as the feel and the look I really do like it love the wireless charging, love to use the Google Pixel stand. That's also perfect gives you some extra functionality there. So I really like that. There really are no deal-breakers on this and, if you're really into videography, if you're really into photography with your smartphone, you don't want to lug around a DSLR.

You don't want to look around the video camera you can lug around this. This is the one you'd want to use as far as anybody wants to take perfect photos and videos. This is your smartphone right here, but I'm curious to know what you think. Let me know in the comment section below, so please hit the like button. Please subscribe.
