BlackBerry KEY2 First Look: Improved Build Quality and Keyboard!

If you think physical keyboards on a smartphone is an outdated thing, then think again, because blackberry has just made physical keyboards available and much better on the all new blackberry key2 successor to last year's blackberry key one. Now the k2 has a lot of improvements as compared to the keyboard now, starting off with the build quality. There's an all new series, seven aluminum uh frame that is actually stronger and more robust, and the background has been updated to a new diamond pattern back that actually feels nice to hold very drippy and nice to hold so other uh physical appearance changes is that on the left side here you no longer see any buttons right here, like the key one, because previously on the key one here is the power button, which is actually pretty convenient. If you are a right-handed person, instead backwards updated the power button to be on the right side of the phone where it is also textured right here. So as you grip the phone and you kind of feel that that's the power button, and you press on it, it turns on the phone and right at the bottom. Here, just still the convenience key right here that lets you access the shortcuts, depending on the kind of uh profile that you're on the phone itself, such as in the meeting.

Let's suppress on it, it can call up apps such as uh your notes, app or some of the apps that you have configured to launch with the convenience key now, in terms of other appearances, the blackberry key2 still has the same 4.5 inch display with a 1620 by 1080 resolution. Now what you will realize, as compared to the key one, is that the key2 has a slightly thinner forehead. That's because blackberries has increased the key caps the size of the keyboard and also heightened up by 20 to allow a more comfortable and accurate typing experience. So what's really new about the keyboard? Well, first, it's the speed key. There is a new key right here which blackberry just built in right here uh, but it is a very uh.

It is a very useful shortcut key whereas if let's say you're in the calendar app, and I've just pre-configured one of the keys to launch the camera. So, as I hold on to the speed key and I press the c, it launches the camera app as I'm on the other app. So that's actually not achievable on the key one, because you can only launch shortcuts once you're on the home screen, but when you're in the app, and you want to switch to the other app easily. All you need to do is to press the speak key and the alphabet that you're assigned to run the shortcut. So you can do a couple of stuff such as assigning that key to call contact to launch an app or to perform a certain function of the phone.

So that's actually a very useful feature that is not available on other android smartphones. Now, in terms of hardware specs, the blackberry k2 is powered by a snapdragon 660 processors, supported by six gigs of ram and 64 gigabytes of storage. The ladder can be expanded via a micro, SD card up to 256 gigabytes, and it has a 3 500 William hour battery with pictures 3.0 support that blackberry claims to offer up to 2 days of battery life. The dual rear camera of the blackberry k2 takes 12 megapixel photos, so the main sensor takes wide angle: shots at f 1.8, while the secondary sensor takes telephoto shots at f, 2.6. So technically speaking, this camera system just optical zoom, and it also has some features such as portrait mode and 4kd, video recording at 30 frames per.

Second, it's good to know that blackberry has actually focused on the camera features after so long of building business smartphones, and I'm sure this is going to be a great shooter. But we have to find out more when we get the review unit in terms of pricing and availability. The blackberry k2 will be available in Malaysia starting July 12th for a price of 2599 ringgits. It's quite a decent price, in my opinion, for such craftsmanship and the performance and features that it offers out of the box. So stay tuned for more at kl gadget TV as we will be receiving a review.
