The hardware of the BlackBerry key ? is what has piqued my interest with this handset. First, you have a physical keyboard on the front, with keys that are 20% larger than on the key one. They're also taller and feature improved contours to make them more tactile we're going to revisit the keyboard in a dedicated video, because it's the center point of the smartphone, and it has so many features more features than what we can cover in this video. For today's standards, the bezels around the display are extremely thick but believe it or not. They've actually pinned slimmed down the capacitive touch, navigation, buttons of flank the display and keyboard, and they're in the appropriate order back home and overview. They aren't part of to displace.
Furthermore, they cannot be rearranged, which would have been nice to see, as it would add, some screen real estate. Maybe TCL can do that with the key 3. The actual display is nearly identical to the key one. It features a 4.5 inch LCD panel with a 16 20 by 1080 resolution and 434 pixels per inch index. The key 2 has a 533 NIT brightness, which is pretty solid, but I still had some difficulties, viewing photos and content in general in direct sunlight with that said, color reproduction is also quite good for an LCD panel.
You also won't see any extreme color shifting when viewing the display at extreme angles. One of you left a comment in the previous video asking how prone the screen is to scratching I actually haven't noticed any scratches so far, and I've occasionally had various metal objects like keys and screws in the same pocket as this phone. It does use Gorilla Glass 3, so it should protect against this sort of items, but it's not quite up to par as some of the flagships which offer Gorilla Glass, 4 and above I have the black key -. As you can see here, the aluminum frame is painted black to match the keyboard and display bezels. This is the color I'd recommend for most people, as it makes this older.
Looking handset look slightly less antiquated as the bezels and chunkiness is an exaggerated in via the contrast of materials, the silver version looks like a smartphone. The camera company Lacey would make it has that old nostalgic look to it. We do have a headphone jack up top a SIM card, tray and micro SD card slot for expandable storage on the left hand, side dual speaker grills on the bottom, though audio is only outputted through the right grille. A USB-C port is in the middle on the right hand, side we have a metal volume, rocker power, sleep, on/off button and programmable convenience. Key the power button has some texture to it to help you differentiate it from the others, and this has proved to be extremely useful.
In my testing. All the buttons are metal, which is also nice. The back has a rubber texture to it. That feels perfect in the hands. I feel like I can be somewhat rough to this handset without the fear of scratching it to hell or significantly damaging it.
It does pick up some oils from your hands, but no fingerprints like many of the glass back to smartphones. We see in abundance these days all around the key to looks and feels much better than its predecessor. Now, let's take a look at the convenience key which can be set up in these settings. I. Have it set up to activate the Google Assistant with one press, but you can actually program up to three different shortcuts, there's also different profiles.
You can set up with their own shortcuts, for example, if you're connected to your home, Wi-Fi you'll get one set of shortcuts. If you go to work, or you travel in your car, you'll get a different set of shortcuts. I feel like every smartphone should have a programmable key like this now I will say the key to has a lot of apps. Now, I wouldn't say: there's a lot of bloatware as many of these pre-installed apps and shortcuts are for productivity purposes. What did annoy me was just how many app tutorials there were every single app and pretty much every area you navigate for the first time will prompt you to take a tour around and explore the different functions? This could be handy for obviously less tech-savvy people, but even then I think it's more annoying than helpful, so I've already installed a ton of smart home apps and social media apps, because I'm using this phone as my driver for the next few weeks or so, the more apps I have installed the better I'll be able to determine how well the phone performs with that said.
That concludes the build and setup video don't forget to click the subscribe button to stay notified of the next installment I'm BO HD from phone calm, thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed this video and I will see you right back here in the next one, see ya.
