Apple iPad 2020 Review - All You Need?

This is the iPad not the pro, not the mini, not even the air that we're still waiting to get? No. This is the eighth generation of the most basic iPad you can buy. I know it's not common for us to review anything other than the flagship, but I wanted to make a little experiment in perspective. See I've been an avid iPad user for years, and I've spent thousands of dollars getting the best one, but during that process apple has been blurring the lines between the expensive models and the affordable ones. I wanted to see if I could survive with the most bare bones: inexpensive variant of the iPad that apple makes and see if it's really necessary to pay extra to go pro, I'm Jaime Rivera with pocket now- and this is our full review. I think it's very important to note that at this price bracket, your options for a good tablet are very limited.

Most of these are made of plastic or very questionable glass, while apple continues with its standard of aluminum and glass, even for the least expensive models. Some of you might complain that its design is dated, but I'm going to say that I missed it like sure. The new pro and air models have this boxier approach, that's visually, more modern, but at the expense of something I really enjoyed from the past. For example, even if the new design is technically thinner, it's kind of pointless if the magnets were moved, it forces all of its case, alternatives to cover the back and yeah, also compensate for that camera bump. By contrast, I have always been a huge fan of the smart covers and legacy iPads, as it gives them a slimmer, notepad feel you can use it as a kickstand.

You can prop it on your lap or desk to type on the display, which is not the most ideal. The back does remain exposed which I'm willing to put up with, but it's also something I don't recommend for everyone. I know it is a controversial choice. Our friend Zach at jury-rig. Everything has confirmed that iPads are fragile, they should be protected, and I do recommend you hit up channel sponsor subcase.

If you want to go all out in a very affordable way, the award-winning up pro even includes a kickstand for that added functionality that I'm talking about now, regardless there is a key upgrade internally with apple's inclusion of its a12 bionic. It's a two generation boost in performance when compared to last year's iPad heck. We even got a pd fast charger in the box at a time when Apple is doing away with those like really. My only problem is that everything else didn't change like the ram apparently is the same battery also, and the old Wi-Fi, ac and Bluetooth 4.2 as well, and then same old, lightning connector instead of USB like yeah, everything else is pretty dated, and probably my biggest complaint with this whole experiment is storage, see the entry level variant starts at 32 gigabytes, which is actually the same amount of storage that the regular Apple Watch includes, like can apple, really convince you that you can replace a computer with this little amount of storage to play with here's the problem, even this affordable iPad has probably the best display. In its category I mean its retina display resolution colors are accurate, and then it gets brighter than your standard laptop and if watching movies or consuming content is your thing, it's great and sure the bezels are kind of dated, but hey I'm loving the use of touch ID just as much as the throwback of having a headphone jack here, which I actually do recommend you use, as the speakers on this thing are just okay, what the company dubs as the powerhouse that forever the problem is that if every single 4k movie on Apple TV is around 4 gigabytes, then be prepared to be deleting stuff constantly.

Like seriously, I recommend you spare the extra cash to avoid the frustration, especially if you plan to give this iPad to kids, who are going to load it up with games. It might be worth it because in everything else, this iPad is a pretty neat package. This a12 actually means business when it comes to performance. If, in the past, you noticed stutter or a subpar experience when multitasking applications around that pretty much got solved here now, you can't keep as many applications in ram and sure you won't be getting the speedy promotion of the pro models, but it doesn't mean that this tablet feels slow. Actually, the experience is good enough.

That you'll have a hard time telling that you're using an iPad, that's two to three times less expensive than the iPad Pro, and the thing is even if this iPad is slated more for consumers, it technically has all the tools you need to get sort of productive. I mean it's not like. It can't run any specific applications on the app store. They all work. Fine.

It also brings the pins for you to connect apple's infamous keyboard, which I recommend you skip. I've found far better options from companies like ZAC that actually also hold the Apple Pencil. Oh, and about that. Yes, it supports the first generation variant which charges in the most ridiculous way and listen. If there's a difference in latency, I honestly can't tell all I care about is if it can provide the same functionality and guys it does.

I can use this just like. I use the iPad Pro to highlight my scripts or doodle on OneNote and then iPadOS 14 now also offers scribble for handwriting detection, which works surprisingly well, like other than the fact that you can't magnetically attach it to the side. The experience is exactly the same between this and any pro model and speaking of iPadOS 14. Yes, you also get the controversial way to handle widgets on the home screen, also apple. If you really want this to behave like a computer, you can't ignore the concept of having multiple users.

It's about time that changed. That being said as a product that can do most of the things that a typical computer can. Its endurance continues to be more legendary than those computers. This is an all-day tablet, regardless of whatever applications you use. And yes, if you own a mac having this tablet become, your secondary screen through sidecar is genius, but my advice is use it with the cable to avoid any sort of lag.

Really, the only difference that's substantial is left is the cameras, and I'm not gonna, be that guy. Really, these cameras are only designed for video calling and that's as far as you should go, and in that sense, they're, okay or if anything, badly placed for a video call from the front but be grateful. The cameras on this thing are so bad. You won't want to use them for anything else. The only thing left to complain is storage again and sure Chromebooks at this price point, don't really bring much, but that's a bad comparison.

Those only need the browser to operate and that one comes pre-installed, even if you do have the option for android apps iPadOS is a different paradigm where apps are king and all these require storage, and then the services offered also require more seriously. Don't let the entry level price tag, fool you go for the higher tier. To conclude, all I'm going to say is: I have two regrets. The first is that I took too long to do this experiment, and the second is that I was crazy to think that I could survive with 32 gigabytes and everything else. The 8th generation iPad is seriously everything a tablet user needs.

It can run all app store applications pretty well, it supports all of apple's usage scenarios, and it really only leaves me one question: do you really need an iPad Pro for nearly three times the money? I'll admit that I'm very spoiled by the better display with promotion, the quad speakers and the ability to attach and charge the Apple Pencil too, but is all that really worth the price difference for a guy like me? Yes, I'm spoiled by them. I would have a hard time going back from that experience, but for the average consumer, no I've always said you don't really need a tablet, let alone an expensive tablet seriously. The 8th generation iPad is all you need. It's definitely a product. I can recommend either for you or as a gift for anybody else.
