Xiaomi Mijia Writing Tablet v Remarkable (SxS Review)

All right, so I'm, super late for dinner did not prepare for this video at all, but it has to be done because there's absolutely no resource on this online and that pisses me the off. So this is a Xiaomi media. Writing tablet. I think they call it all right. So my dad just called cut my video off. That is a problem, but anyway, so yeah, there's absolutely no way.

I can zoom into the exact serial number, and you can't really press too hard, and this I'll talk later about that. So let's try and very nice flicker rejection on iOS 13, I phone, eight, all right so yeah, let's actually use the tablet to talk about it. So, first right, this is weird read. This just has the one button which I have locked, but I will not press because I'm too afraid there is a ton of dust here. So there's like 50 construction sites around so there's.

This is already full of dust, even though I've unpacked it 10 minutes ago. Packaging is pretty nice, so they have this vac formed plastic sheet super minimal instructions. So this is really not geared at the Western market, since everything is in little lines and squiggles. Xiaomi does very beautiful stuff, though this tablet is absolutely no exception, 13.5 inches. So it is large.

It's about this much shorter than an a4 and about this much narrower I. Think it's exactly I checked it earlier. So it's pretty much an a4. Does this say anything? Yes, so this basically gives us some dimensions. But again the rest is just some lines very nice little, so Apple started this whole thing with like showcasing this stuff, then OnePlus did it, and they'll show me: does it with everything? I mean I yeah? Why not it's? It leads the nice design, so yeah I, don't mind it.

It's totally! Ok, I'm, not angry about it. It's fine, yes, I, think we're done with the general stuff. And yes, so let me bring in the can. Oh yeah, this is filthy um. She had the pen is completely passive, is Xiaomi branded.

I think it's supposed to latch holy a dozen didn't have money for my okay at latches. Sorry, sorry-sorry pen also latches to other magnetic things, but, like briefly just barely sad. This is basically the best part for it. That it is! It's not like it's easier to take off its, not going to survive in a bag, but it's good enough right. I don't know it's its decent.

If it that's all. I wanted right to be able to move this from a table to another and have this just be stored again, the coolest would have been like actually have it somehow integrate like Samsung style or stuff, but anyway keep in mind. This is so. I was saying that I think I'm not. Should I finished it's $23, including shipping? I mean not too bad.

So basically, what this is one of those boogie boards with a battery right, so you can't locally erase this button, only erases, absolutely everything on the screen right, so I've written some some some pros and cons before that. I want to show you the color shift of this is pretty interesting, so it's pretty blue in most angles. If you look at it straight, straight on its kind of whitish, it remains to be seen how it will look outside, but yeah see a huge surface right. This is amazingly large. It's pressure sensitive, so you can technically use anything which is good and bad right.

So if you lose this pen, you're not going to have to spend like fifty dollars on another one on another one of those Wacom things. You could just use your nails right or even finger, and it's like insanely analog right. So if you want just give it a tinge like a bit of color all right, it does require some crashing right, but yeah easiest to do it is with the pen. Let me actually zoom in right. If you press super hard, it's going to draw a super thick line and if you do it right, you do have some pressure control, which is pretty cute, and now I'm, barely touching it right, so I'm barely, barely pressing down on it yeah.

So that is adequate, I'd, say I, don't have any complaints, but the downside of this right is that if you touch it right, if you press it like, you will have smudges literal smudges in the which I don't know. Does it get smudges when you bend? It is the question and no it doesn't so know pressure hotspots on the inside at least none that I can immediately see or none that have developed. Yet so that's that's nice I mean Xiaomi. Does beautiful like nicely done stuff, there's no locally raised. I mean this is the biggest problem.

If somehow they could get that fixed I would easily pay twice as much for this right. So I hate like half like I, don't hate it but like I, do have some kind of OCD eye things. Alright, if you make a mistake right, like I did here, you have to cut it, you have to cross it, there's absolutely no way. Otherwise, you have to erase the whole and my OCD isn't as bad. It isn't evolved.

No, it isn't like far along enough to warrant like starting fresh. If right, so I don't know, so it ends up being like that. It bothers me, mildly. Let's see, I've just gotten this, and I will not have time in the following days to either use it or review it. So this is why I want to get this out right now, so I, don't know how exactly I'll get along with this.

How much I'll use it, but I just want to get a video of it out because yeah absolutely no one talks about this, and it pissed me off right before I bought it I really would have enjoyed seeing it in action and actually getting a feel for the scale. Let me actually bring in a four so yeah. This is an a4 and, as you can see, let's Center it on the top left. So it's kind of like this much on the left side and this much on the bottom right side. It's pretty good I, don't know decent and what else yeah, so contrast is definitely not a strong suit.

You can see that I've made a line here where I pressed on the screen and left a lot of on it. What else yeah this color with blue eh I think there are others that have different colors or they just the people just have different lights. I had no idea the lock there's a lock button right, which technically now is set to lock. It's actually zoom in on this, because everything done is everything like design wise. This is very beautiful right, so lock and unlock, and so now technically, it's locked.

So that's, probably just in series with the lock button and yeah so again, lock I would have enjoyed if it would disable this, but I think this is completely passive. Somehow requires out. Actually, let's check right so technically, if you remove the battery, we would expect to get no more pressure recognition. How are you supposed to get this out all right, very nice? So this is a pretty cute little mechanism, so we got the sell out and let's see if it still works, and it still does right. So this is complete.

This might have capacitors, but I do suspect that the writing on this is completely 100 passive. If anyone has a video explaining like knows about a video explaining how this works, I would really not mine to see it, so I will be looking for one briefly and yeah. So basically, the only active part of this is the actual raising which we need the cr2025 for, and so let's plug this back in, and you raise it boom, and that is pretty quick, and again it's its I, don't know I do enjoy you Kiki, given that it's its fully analog. You could do very nice stuff like look at this line right, how it stops right, so you could have like daily menus or some stuff on it, but like I mean that doesn't make much sense right. So I guess right what you would do with this is: have it around the house and just make like grocery lists or like ? dues or stuff, because I don't know, I, don't know right, and this is yeah I mean I, don't know, I, don't know, I, don't know if I'll use this.

What I do have, though, and I do want to show, because I did actually buy this order. This in order to maybe avoid buying a remarkable tablet and the seller ship ? too late and I, bought the remarkable I'm sorry. So let's write something on this habit display. Something so show me a writing tablet. What is this like? It doesn't really have a show me media or writing down super-slippery.

So that's pretty interesting, I, don't mind the writing. Experience at all so show me. Media writing tablet this, and this is the remarkable tablet, so we'll probably even have to zoom out a bit. This is 400 euros used is what I paid for this. It is battery powered.

So this is a lot more kit than this. It has some Wacom style surface pink, write the traditional ink right. This is some kind of LCD technology and yeah. This is not too bad. Oh, I'll say it right off the bat, so I paid 400 for this new at 600, but they very often drop the price down to 5, so I paid pretty similar to that which is quite yeah.

It's a lot of money right, I love the UI on this, so I won't go into too much detail on this, but I love. The way the UI is laid out like the design. Language is completely to my liking. I love it. This is how I do it so yeah? That's that's a total win in my book and yeah.

You have a few tools right, so you have, for example, this would be the brush. Let's make it big, and you have colors you have black, so you can go like this. It is pressure sensitive, so you press like very little so based on speed right. You have undone right and this I do use a lot right. These buttons you can use with your fingers.

Writing, obviously not, so you can like to hold it down and do stuff like that. I'll show you guys the colors, so colors would look like this. So this is a basically a vivid, I think would be the word right. So one is black one pixel black one is white, and it gets to this gray, which is very believable like I'm I'm, fine with it. There are tools right, so you can move stuff around alright, as you can move stuff, you can copy stuff duplicate stuff.

It is pretty slow. So right now you haven't seen it be slow, and I don't mean the e-ink right. The ink is fine. I don't expect this to be fast, but the UI right, so everything that is not related to actually, that is not related to pen input right. So this is super quick and the feel on this right.

So these tips wear out so they feel insanely. Well, alright, so they do feel a bit better than this. You can't technically write on this as well, but this pen is the same shot. It is very nice, so you have a bunch of tools right. So there are different styles of pens right.

This is more pressure since they have been thicker. This is slimmer, and this is the slimmest you can zoom in, but it's a pain in the ass. So right you can zoom in, and it does vectorize stuff right. So you saw it clear out, and so you can get in and do finer details. You can't get finer pens right, so this is basically the think this would be the know.

This would be the finest. So if you want to have precision where you put the stuff, then you can use the zoom, but to get more resolution you can't. But again this is pretty powerful right. So I need to go back to a hundred, no pinch to zoom I. Think the screen supports it, but they just haven't implemented it yet and there 's's weird emissions, for example, if you zoom in right, if you zoom into this deal, it's saying move doesn't work anymore and why the doesn't move work anymore, like I, really would like to move stuff right and say that doesn't work.

That is a bummer, and you get this thing up here. So that's always going to be there. Moving around is also pain in the ocean. Moving around is also a pain in the ass. You can see.

Now all the UI runs superfast. This isn't always the case right. So I will say that at times it is a bit annoying. I am extremely fussy about this kind of stuff, and I've I'm, fine with it. So it's its, definitely not a tragic right.

Absolutely all the notes get uploaded to your remarkable account, and you can access them on apps on iOS Android and Windows Phone. No, there's no Windows Phone app I'm, sorry like if, if you're watching this video- and you still have Windows Phone a rock on brother rock on like there's, not many, it's not many of you left all right yeah. So these are totally different products right. This you actually do take notes of so, for example, I took some sketches for a YouTube video which is yet to be released, so this might actually come out faster, there are layers. So this is nice stuff right and again all this stuff.

We do have a little X here that it can't upload it some stuff like it's, it's not connecting to Wi-Fi for some reason. So, hmm so Wi-Fi is it connected? Well, it says it's connected, so no anyway and I do have the coolest Wi-Fi name anyway. Keyboard is super nice. If, for example, if you want to change the name of stuff, so there are limitations like not being able to move something from one page to another, so, for example, I want to move right. This little thing right, I want to make a duplicate of it, and now I can move the duplicate, but I can't move it to a different page which, which is stupid.

I, don't want to move it to page three yeah out of luck. You can't, and so that's that's a bummer right. Eraser has also this like selection mode. What else can I say about it? It's a nice tablet, I mean for a prototype. It is incredibly well done, like not a prototype, but for first generation device.

Someone who knew there was working on this right so to open it. You just pop off the back, so it's pretty easy to service and everything is DIY. If so, it has a battery that you can for sure get on AliExpress in eBay, then there's the motherboard and that connects to this place. So absolutely no! No, like super hard to service stuff charging port has a little metal reinforcement. So again, that's very cute, given that this is made of plastic I'm I'm impressed by how well it's tucked together.

So the front display sheet. Let's call it is, is perfectly adhered, and this is a first-gen unit right, so this was made in 2017. This was ordered with on Kickstarter right, so was a pre-order. So this came out super nice. The buttons still are super click.

Well, not super click, but they're clicking, so they're decently, clicking. Let's just leave it at that and see it uploads, the stuff it has Wi-Fi I had some talks with the support team. I. Think mine is running down the battery a bit too fast. So technically, you should get like a couple of days, and I'm leaking battery.

Quite a lot and they've been extremely helpful and knowledgeable so thumbs up to the support unremarkable. So the answer insanely fast and the people are extremely reliable and knowledgeable. So that was incredibly nice yep the case. So if you do end up buying the remarkable this case is absolutely indispensable. So it's this gray felt type deal with leather on the inside.

It is extremely stiff right so, and it fits the remarkable perfectly right as you would expect, but again right all this stuff. This is like the first round of production, so the fact that it is done so nicely is, is very I, don't know pleasing the pen, and this is why you need this right. First, if you scratch your plastic display like this coach is super easily I dropped a PCB on it, and I do have an incredibly small scratch, so I'm appreciating now going to be able to see this on camera so scratches right here. Let me see if I can get the angle rights over here if the flickering would stop, and that would be awesome, but again, so I do have a fine scratch, and yes, so that's basically pretty heartbreaking, and so you would need a case to carry it around. In any case, like you do in any scenario like there's absolutely no way you can have this rub against absolutely anything except the top of the pen right this little leather pouch is super nice.

It fits the pen very snugly, there's absolutely no way. This is falling out, and it's pretty expensive, I, don't know, but extremely well done and fits the table. Well, so you, if you find on Etsy, for example, some you could probably ask the people to make your handmade one for less than 90 euros, but if you don't have the time for that, this is a perfect option. Everything about it is super. Nice Xiaomi tablet is also pretty interesting.

It's a completely different use case scenario, though so comparing them is I mean they are for writing stuff, and they do have electricity flowing at some point, but yeah now, they're, really not at all comparable and I did write. My name on this I think 90 times up until now. Yeah, that's about it. Any other questions, leave them down in the comments all for sure answer them as I get more familiarized with both these devices right I had the remarkable for like a few weeks, and this I've had for a few minutes, so yeah alright come on.
