Welcome everybody to apple insider apple's, lineup of iPads, continues to expand this year. We have four models: we've got the iPad Mini. We've got the iPad, the 8th generation, the 2020 iPad Air, which is the iPad Air 4. , and then, of course, we have the latest gen iPad pros that dropped in early 2020. So you got four different iPad models to choose from and, of course, the iPad pros come in multiple sizes. So in this video we are going to walk you through all these devices walk you through, which one you should choose based on your tasks and uh generally help you avoid any costly mistakes when picking the iPad.

That's right for you! So let's go ahead and just dive into this. So the one iPad that you don't see in front of us here happens to be the iPad Mini. You would think it is kind of the smallest, the cheapest on apple's lineup, but in fact the current generation iPad Mini is actually more expensive than the current generation iPad. iPad mini starts at 3.99, yet it still has the same. A12 processor still supports Apple Pencil, just like the entry entry-level iPad, 8th generation does, so why is the iPad Mini 400 versus 329 for the larger iPad? Well, technically, the iPad Mini is a little more advanced.

It supports the p3 wide color camera. It has the full fully laminated display sports, true tone, a few other things there, so the iPad Mini has a better display. Furthermore, it also starts at 64 gigs of storage, whereas the iPad here it only starts at 32. The biggest feature, I think for a lot of people. The reason they're drawn to the iPad Mini at all is because of the size, and I think right out of the gate.

You know if you want that smaller size, there are people who just want that more compact form factor for the iPads, and they continue to get larger. We've seen them get larger or larger. Every year between the screen sizes, and the actual tablet sizes we have bigger and bigger iPads, so the iPad Mini you're, typically going to want that when you want that really compact form factor. If you want something that you can take with you a lot, maybe you just like reading, maybe you like watching movies on planes, the iPad Mini is such a great form factor for that. I would still love to see a new one with a liquid retina display and stuff like that, but it still has its spot in the lineup as just the compact iPad.

It's not supposed to be the cheapest iPad. Just because it's smaller it's a very capable iPad. It just happens to be the smallest. So if you were looking for the most compact one, that's the mini, which brings us then to the ipad, the eighth generation iPad, which launched earlier this year as well. So this guy it supports the first generation Apple Pencil.

It works the smart keyboard folio, so you have the keyboard. You can type and get some productivity done, and this is the cheapest iPad that apple sells starting at 329 at full MSRP. So who is the iPad for this as being the cheapest iPad? That apple sells is basically for the person who wants an iPad but doesn't want to have to pay more than they have to you've, often maybe looked at certified refurbished or other discounted iPads from like last generation trying to pick up a good deal. This iPad is a good deal, 329 you're still getting that a12 processor same one, that's in the 400 iPad Mini. You still have Apple Pencil support uh.

It connects to via lightning. So it's so the first generation Apple Pencil, but there's a lot of productivity built into this tablet. It's very fast. You don't have the curved display. It's not a laminated display, there's still kind of you know downfalls to this iPad, but for 300 329.

This is a solid tablet to pick up. So, if you're looking for one for the kids, you want one that's going to get good for schoolwork or just a basic iPad. This is the iPad you get, so that leads us up to the iPad Air. This is apple's newest in the lineup, and before we talk a little more about the iPad Air and why this is legitimately the iPad that ninety percent of you should pick up, let's go ahead and talk about our sponsor for this video. So this is the iPad when you don't know where to start in the lineup, you look at the lineup. You see four different models, there multiplies the pro, and you do not know where you fit.

You want something, that's new! Furthermore, you want those new features. Furthermore, you don't want the iPad, because it's stale and there's not anything, really new and exciting apple. Just done the best to add you know small new features and keep it relevant, updating the processor, but keeping that price point as low as possible. The iPad Air, well quite a bit more expensive, is absolutely just the perfect iPad for most people out there, because it has this amazing new. Look, it's completely redesigned.

Has these great colors and at the moment, is the fastest for normal everyday tasks. This is the fastest even faster than the iPad pros. So this is the one that you want. It's going to get you the best performance. It's going to last you the longest over buying an iPad.

That's already got an a12 in there because it's got an a14, bionic processor, so you're going to get longer out of that processor there. It supports the second generation Apple Pencil, which is far nicer and has gestures and other benefits like being able to magnetically clip onto the side. Productivity gets a huge boost because it works with fancy things like the magic keyboard with the levitating display additional USB c port and the full-size glass trackpad. It also has an USB-C port, which is a killer feature for this device, because you can connect things like peripherals. You can connect uh mice or keyboards through USB.

You can connect external storage devices. Flash drives hard drives SSDs all through USB and have access to those right within your apps and the files app amazing way to do that. It has support for displays over USB, so a ton of benefits of having that USB. Here you can use USB hubs and get access to a bunch of different peripherals all at the same time. So USB is a big feature here for the iPad Air, and this is the cheapest one that you can get USB on because previously was limited to these iPad pros.

So for the first time we're getting that there. It also has a beefed up camera eight megapixels on the iPad and the iPad Mini got a new 12 megapixel shooter here on the iPad Air and of course it has uh touch I'd built into the sleep wake button and that liquid retina display on the front that looks absolutely gorgeous. So this is probably a device that most people are looking for. It comes in fun, colors newly redesigned, the most powerful processor, pretty much the one you want square in the middle of the lineup, it's a little more than this kind of boring one, but it's very cool. So where does that leave users who are looking at the iPad Pro iPad? Pro comes in two different sizes: there's an 11-inch model, which is just barely a hair over the 10.9 inch of the iPad Air, so a miniscule bit so roughly the same size as the iPad Air, but there's also the uh 12.9 inch version, as you can see here. So there are two different versions here and the larger one is a little easier to sell because you know if you want that larger size, you know when you want this larger, larger display.

It has larger benefits too, because that display is so big. Multitasking is easier than ever split screen. Everything like that run two full-size applications at the same time. Amazing, if you know you want a bigger display, then you know you want a bigger display, a lot of people. This is too big, it's straight up too big and is immediately cut off from their options, or they want the biggest display possible, which immediately gives them the iPad Pro it also still, both the 11 and the 12.9 inch do have faster multi-core performance, because it's a larger core processor than the iPad Air. So we're for video tasks large photo editing task.

All those are better on either the 11 inch or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro so for those multitasking abilities and really intensive processing.4K video, uh 50 megapixel raw photos that are taking up a massive amount of space instead of photoshop or affinity photo. Those are all going to do better on the iPad pros than the iPad Air. This is still a pro level device, even if it just has the a12z bionic processor, that z is going to give it a better graphics capabilities than the iPad airs. Even for gaming, if you want to get you know the 120 refresh rate in some of these games, you can only get on the iPad pros versus the iPad hair, because it has that pro motion display in here, so there's still benefits to the iPad Pro if you're looking for that higher refresh rate uh in certain situations, if you want that additional graphics power and a little multi-core power, those are for the iPad pros, even they're, a little more boring with no fun colors like the iPad Air, but still the iPad pros are likely to be refreshed in the near future. Apple's not going to sit on the ALZ bionic processor, when they're, already shipping a14 processors in the air in the new iPhone.

So we're likely to see a new iPad Pro in the coming months, so maybe hold out for that. If you are eyeing one of the new pros, but if you're looking for something now- and you want the most capable device, it's definitely the iPad pros to go with. They also have face ID over touch ID, which still honestly, is a huge difference. Just being able to swipe up to unlock your iPad and never having to poke your finger anywhere, it does make it a little more seamless if you prefer a face ID over touch ID, which we absolutely do so that pretty much rounds it out. There are the four iPads for you to pick from there's the iPad Mini, which you should only buy.

If you want that most compact iPad, it is not the cheapest iPad. Just the most compact iPad there's the iPad 8th generation, which is the one you should get when you want the affordable iPad. You want it to be current and relevant. You don't want to buy an older iPad because it may not have the same processor. Furthermore, you want one that's going to last, even if you don't care about colors or fancy features that we're seeing in these upper end devices iPad Air, the one most of you should be buying out.

There has the best combination of power and features and design just everything in one perfect package, and then the iPad pros the one where you're looking for just the best of the best. You want that better display. You want face ID, you want the additional ultra-wide land and LIDAR scanner on the back there. Even if you don't know what a liner scanner is going to do for you, this is the one you're looking for better performance overall, that's the iPad pros or, of course, the larger size of that 12.9 inch model.
