What's new with Apple iPhone XS Max and XR: review

The new iPhones are out, and Apple lovers might be wondering if they're worth the upgrade I'm Erin with tech, gadgets, Canada, calm and there are three new phones to choose from the iPhone 10s, the iPhone, 10s Macs and the iPhone 10 are, you might also call them the excess, excess Max and the XR, depending on what your preference is. Apple told me that they're called the ten. So that's what I'm going to go with now. You might be wondering about the differences between these phones as well. So let's dig in right now on what's new to start we're going to take a look at the hardware. Now I don't have an excess in my hands, but it's a 5.8 inch. Super retina, HD LED, true tone display, with a 1 million to 1 contrast ratio, an 80, 2.9% screen to body ratio, and it's got ip68 water resistance checking in on the iPhone XS max. It is a slightly larger handset than the XS or the 10s.

If you have any familiarity with the 10, this one is slightly bigger than that. The 10 s is pretty much the same size. So this one right here is a 6.5-inch screen size. It's also got that super retina, HD LED, true tone display now moving on to the iPhone XR or 10 R. This is a 6.1 inch, LCD or liquid retina HD, true tone display. It's got a 1400 to 1 contrast ratio and a smaller 79% screen to body ratio.

The XR is slightly heavier and thicker than the XS. It's got ip67 water resistance as well, there are more colors available in the XR as well. There's white, black, blue, yellow coral and the product red version, the iPhone XS or the XS max- is basically limited to silver space, gray and gold. When it comes to the cameras, the 10s in the 10s max have dual 12 megapixels, rear cameras and, of course, all the new bells and whistles like portrait mode, the 10 R or the XR. If that's, your preference doesn't have that dual rear camera, but you'll still get most of the features of the other phones cameras so between the 10s and the 10r phones.

The main difference is screen technology. iPhone 10s has this Oh led-- display that apple says is more vibrant when compared to the 10r, which has an LCD. So what does that mean? To you apple says: the Sleds are capable of deeper blacks and a higher pixel per inch count that make them appear less grainy on closer inspection than an LCD with each one running the same screen. Imagery side-by-side I can't see a noticeable difference in the screens, neither one seems brighter or more vibrant or colorful than the other, despite their differing tech specs. Some of my readers wanted to know if it's easy to use the iPhone 10 s Mac's one-handed, and for me the answer is no not really I do have kind of long fingers, but the max is so big in my hand, I can't reliably reach the top without shimmying it around.

Now. With that said, I do like the bigger screen size because it's easier to read, but maybe that's just me getting old. The other big upgrade is to the phone's operating system. With the arrival of iOS 12, there are several new or improved features on the new phones or, if you upgrade the iOS on older phones, you can access most of it. ? now performance is faster and more responsive, and you should notice things like smoother animations according to Apple.

Now that I didn't really notice, but what I did feel was more noticeable is some other speed improvements. There's a 40%, faster, app launch and 50% faster keyboard display, plus a 70%, faster swipe to the camera and I did find that those features definitely worked a bit faster kind of hard to measure, but it feels like it's faster. It's now possible to customize your an emoji. No longer are you limited to animating yourself as an animal? Now you can make you look like you, hey how's. It's going there's also some fun new FaceTime features that are actually kind of useful.

If you haven't done your hair, you can use the live, personalized, Moloch character, you've created and take part in a FaceTime call. As a cartoon. You can also do a group FaceTime now and while you're in a FaceTime call to access this, just tap the three dots you'll see on the screen to add a participant you can have up to 32 people on a call, so you can use something called focus view in group FaceTime, and that means that during the FaceTime call, the speaker will automatically be front and center, but with focus view you can double tap on the person you'd most like to see a handy feature for those folks who love to go wallet less and rely on Apple Pay. It's now possible to keep using Apple Pay, even if your phone has died, there's a micropower reserve that makes it so that NFC transactions can be made with your phone. Even if it's out of battery and speaking of the battery each of the new phones now have Wireless QI charging but of course, you'll need to purchase that charger separately.

You can also get a speed charger, but that too is extra though it will buy you a 50% capacity charge in just about 30 minutes. Overall, these new phones are an improvement. If you're the type, however, who complains about the hoverboard not being ready, yet you'll, probably find these improvements merely incremental, but if you're due to upgrade your iPhone you're, definitely going to like what you find in the new iPhones. Now here's the price list, the iPhone 10s sells for a boat, or I should say it starts at about $9.99 Canadian, the 10s Mac sells for about 1099 dollars, Canadian and the XR starts at about 749 Canadian they're available from Apple or most cell phone carriers. If you want to read more about either of the phones head over to tech, gadgets, Canada com I have a full blog there, and you can post any questions you have either on the blog or here on the YouTube channel.
