Unihertz Titan Unboxing and First Impressions: NOT A BlackBerry...

Hey everybody welcome back to tech, Odyssey, so I'm here with a unique phone that has been asked for a lot I've had a lot of people reached out and say: hey. Are you going to review this? Can you review this? Please review this. All the above and I'm not gonna. Keep you waiting. It's the unit, Hertz Titan. So what this is actually a Kickstarter phone.

It started in July of last year. A lot of people know about it, I've known about it for a while Lou on unbox therapy. He kind of made this famous last year when he took a look at it. Early on I've been trying to get my hands on one for a long time. I ended up having to break down and buy one.

So this was bought with my own money. It's not sponsored, and generally you know you all guys. If you watched my videos, know I'm a big blackberry fan so yeah. It really interested me because it looks kind of like the passport, and you know forget the box here. Here's the unit, Hertz Titan, it's really cool.

It's running, Android 9! It's got a touch-sensitive keyboard, just like the passport does it's got a six thousand William battery, all the bells and whistles, and we're going to get into that in just a second I. Don't want to I, don't want to throw everything out there beginning the video, but I do want to say if this is your first time stopping by the channel I appreciate you being here it pleases if you enjoy the video hit the like and the subscribe button hope to have you back for more videos and yeah. So let's go ahead and dive in and take a look at this and see what the universe Titan is all about in this unboxing and first impressions, video all right. So here's what people want to see if you're here to watch this video, you want to see this phone so here it is, it cost three hundred and thirty-nine dollars. You can pick it up on their website.

It's kind of weird, the way that you order it, and you order and buy just like any other phone, but apparently they kind of put them out in batches. So I guess they don't just have a bunch of inventory sitting on shelves. Thankfully, I got mine about six days after I ordered it. I was really concerned because I didn't get a tracking or shipping confirmation. I just got a receipt for my PayPal, purchase, and I was a little concerned.

Furthermore, I actually seriously considered cancelling my order because I didn't know anything about it. So fascinating phone I've been using it. You know, kind of for the last two days, I haven't put my SIM card in here. Yeah, I've just been testing it out. Amazing, like I, said six thousand William battery.

It's crazy. It's a rugged phone. So putting this next to my passport, so I have the BlackBerry passport SE and a lot of people really wanted to see what these look like side by side. Here you have it so, even though they both have 4.5-inch square screens with the 1440 by 1440 resolution, you can see there's some significant differences here, but some things they did kind of copy, I think from the BlackBerry mobile devices. It has this convenience key over here on the side that you can program for a long press, a double press or a short press.

So that's kind of neat. The capacitive touch keyboard is really kind of weird yeah. They are disabled by default, and it's you can actually go into the quick settings flip the page over on the second one, and it's there you can enable it, but I didn't even realize it was touch sensitive until after I ordered the thing I was like well that's kind of weird, but either way you have all these buttons here. So you have like the shift button, the off button. You can actually program in the software to flip which side that you want them on its kind of weird, taking a close-up look here, normally on a blackberry, a lot of the symbols, and they're all over the keyboard, but a lot of the common ones around the edges are on this side and the numbers on the left side.

They flipped it here and on a black grade. The alt button is usually done here. You get the picture that are anyway yeah. They change it around a little, so so many keyboards and I think that was kind of to avoid getting sued blackberry kind of likes to do that when people infringe on their keyboard territory, even though they're not really using it they've got their ball, they don't want people to take it. So a lot of people probably want to know.

If you looked, we've got the BlackBerry key to in the key to LE, quite frankly, they're coming up on being two years old, so people are wondering if this is a viable option and I say yes, maybe I don't want to say anything bad about Excel, really use it too much. But if you're switching over from a blackberry, a lot of people really do care about security. Being that this is a unit hurts and not a blackberry. I would have significant concerns about software and security. How secure the software really is? I, don't know anything, it's a lot about it, but that is a concern of mine as a blackberry, user, I, don't know if it's going to get Android, 10 or beyond its on Android 9 right now, which it was when they talked about it in July of last year when they announced it.

So the keyboard is a little different. It's very interesting! It has a little longer key press on it, but it is sealed up it's ip67 dust and water resistant, so you can actually throw this in the water up to 1.5 meters with I, think 1.5 meters, one meter for 30 meet 30 minutes, and it'll still be okay, which is amazing, and it has like a 16 megapixel camera on the front. I start on the back and an 8 megapixel on the front. I did take one or two pictures: I'm not gonna, share them in here. They really weren't that crazy good-looking, but in the full review I'm going to go out and take a look at these things, 6 gigabytes of RAM.

It's got the MediaTek hello p60 processor, in it is so yeah, it's got some things going for it that are unique, especially for 339 dollars and I, think it will even work with Verizon. Somebody was telling me it would, it's advertised on their web page. It shows a little Verizon SIM card in there, but from what I'm told you have to have that SIM card activated before you put it in here for it to work, but if it's already an active working sim, it should work I'll be using with T-Mobile GSM unlocked. It's got this hardened rubberized back on it. Apparently you can like dropkick this thing, throw it do whatever with it.

I mean it's a rugged phone like if you take a look I like the Panasonic Tough book. If you made a phone like that, then that's what you get here like I, said running Android 9.0. It's got the home button. Slash fingerprint sensor here, which works pretty well, do a little test there, and it pops up no problem, but what you also get is it's also the home button? So it's a little weird you do have to push on these buttons a little harder than you do with like the passport or our typical keyboard blackberry. So the key press is a little more firm I've heard that it loosens up over time as you get used to using it, also you're going to build some strength in your thumbs.

You're going to be a little slow and clunky and might get some thumping fatigue after a little while of pressing the buttons on this. But the biggest curve for me so far has just been not having the alt and the shift button over on the left side and the way that they move things around, so I'll be typing, and then I'll get you know kind of hung up there, but when you're typing it still pulls up with little symbols there. So you can, you can press those some commonly used ones. Overall, it seems to be an okay experience. So far it seems like it's definitely worth three hundred thirty-nine dollars.

You can do pretty much anything you want with it other than delete apps off of the home screen, because there, if you install an app, you can delete it, but the ones that are pre-loaded on here. It will not let you delete them. I haven't checked to see if I could go force, uninstall them in the settings, but just off the front screen here. You can't drag them and get rid of them, which is kind of annoying. But overall, basically, if you envision a passport that bulked up and went to the gym for, like two years after the passport was made and then put on some metal armor with some screws and some rubberized housing and USB, that's basically what you get here, I mean you can definitely see where this phone came from, although it's a different company but yeah I mean I'm gonna use this some more and see how it works out over the next couple of weeks make my full review all of those good things, but from what it has on paper.

My experience that I've had with it so far other than like you know, maybe some security concerns and software update concerns the fundamental hardware and what you get seems to be okay, so I don't have any really concerns that way. I've seen people do some commenting and saying that they really love it. So this could a very viable option for people who are BlackBerry users looking for something else, it weighs like two-thirds of a pound. I know exactly how many grams I was looking at something else online. It's like two thirds of a pound.

This thing has some serious heft to it. So I definitely wouldn't lay on your back in bed typing on this thing when you're tired, because you may have to make a trip to the emergency room if this hits you and the grill, so that would be a concern as well, but it's very well-made very sturdy, very rugged. The performance seems to be okay. So far, it's got plenty of RAM playing a processing power. The LCD screen is a little weak.

I would like a better quality screen. It's just casual observation, they're, a little on the white is, the aside. It's not a lot of depth color depth in color that it has to it or color saturation, but at face value it really seems to be decent. I'm surprised that a little Kickstarter did so good with putting this together so not too much ranting and raving yet, but totally seems like it's worth the 339 bucks and the experience while yeah, if you think about. If you look back at like the BlackBerry 10 devices, and then you look at like a classic and the q10 and then what you got when you went to the passport.

A lot of people were a little turned off by the form factor and also the other three rows of keys instead of the four and all that good stuff and the touch sensitive keyboard. And then people were kind of little turned off when it came to like the BlackBerry mobile devices. It's kind of the same level of transitioning I think it's not identical. There is some learning, and especially if you're used to using a blackberry, there's a lot of reverse learning. With the way that the keyboard is, but just like anything, you'll develop, the muscle, memory and I think it'll be all right if it's something that you're interested in but wait for the full review, if you want more I'm gonna, go way more in depth on that stuff.

This was just a precursory thing and yeah there's not a lot inside the box. This is kind of a reverse unboxing experience. I'll go ahead and show off the video footage. Here you can see that it comes with the power cable. It comes with the earbuds, which actually kind of looks like ear.

Pods I was surprised by ear pods because it still has the wire it does have a 3.5, millimeter, headphone jack on the phone, but overall yeah. My initial impressions are positive, and we'll see where we go from there and feel free to please sound off in the comments section if you're concerned about things as I'm doing the reviewing process. I'll look at some of that stuff, so I can kind of address it, because I know that people are very interested in oh, and it does have the LED notifications. As well, and you can even change the color for a few things, so very interesting, unique, and totally you know here we are with the Hertz Titan. So that's all I've got if you got any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them down in the comment section I'll get back with you, as always, thanks for watching I appreciate you being here, and I'll, see you guys next time.
