The iPhone 12 Mini FAILED already?

So, the iPhone 12 series of phones have been uh critically acclaimed and I even talked about how the iPhone 12 Pro is pretty good phone. I got a bunch of videos about that. I'll leave some links in the description below um, but the iPhone 12 mini one of the phones that I know kind of said from the beginning. It's not for me is having some problems, that is to say uh. Not many people are buying them. This is a slight surprise to me.

I mean kind of and not really uh and there's probably some reasons for it. Now. I don't really know exactly how many were sold that I'll just start off by saying that, but we do have some pretty good data that will tell us that they're, not quite as popular as a lot of people, thought they were going to be, including even myself to a certain degree, and I'll tell you all about it right after this welcome back and for all you knew people welcome. My name is Travis and I do tech videos every single week and have a blast doing them. If that sounds like fun to you, sit back, relax and enjoy the video anything I talk about will be in the description below, but for now, let's just get into the video, so the iPhone 12 mini is the smallest of the four iPhones and, unlike previous years, Apple took a new kind of way of I don't know distributing or releasing these phones.

They did it in two releases over the course of a couple of weeks, and I think that might be part of the problem when the iPhone 12 series of phones was announced. I did mention that I wasn't super excited about the iPhone mini. It's just one of those phones that seemed too small for me.5.4-inch screen, I the last time I remember having a phone like that was, I think the Galaxy Note 2, or something like that. I mean once upon a time that was a big phone, but it just isn't anymore. Phones with screens of six inches or larger are just kind of the norm nowadays, something you just kind of are used to, but 5.4 kind of hardens back to a simpler time, with the 4.7 inch version of the SC that came out earlier this year. That did well um.

I think some people thought that maybe the people who don't want larger phones might flock to the least expensive of the iPhone 12s, and apparently they were wrong. Unlike previous years apple did the releases of these phones separately, two early on, which was the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro and then the larger and smaller the mini and the pro max a couple of weeks later now I don't know if there was a specific reason that they did this. Maybe they didn't want to overwhelm the market or something I don't really know, but I don't know that this was necessarily a great idea. Now people who are tech heads are going to be the ones that are going to be first in line for iPhones and buying them up. But one thing: that's kind of different about apple versus things like phones like Samsung, is that that initial interest in phones is much larger.

So even though the lower ends of phones in the case of like a Samsung would be like the s20 version versus the ultra version, or in this case the s12, the iPhone 12 versus the iPhone 12 Pro max typically ends up selling more than the larger, more tech, heavy versions, because it's less expensive in the case of apple. It's not always the case. As a matter of fact, the best-selling phone in the last year and a half was the iPhone 11 and then the iPhone 10r before it. So the kind of the lowest end was the most popular, the least expensive. So you would think the 12 mini right now.

Actually, some other things happened. There are a couple of sources here that have told us that the iPhone 12 mini has actually sold the least. Now, a couple of weeks ago, I went to a carrier and asked about the demand for the iPhone 12 mini, and they said it was really not that heavily in demand, which kind of surprised me actually thought it would be a lot more, but then I just thought: well, it's just this one store, apparently not according to this article wave 7 found that in the first month of sales, the iPhone 12 mini was the least popular accounting for only four to five percent of all sales of iPhone 12s. Now you might think. Well, you know it's split into four phones.

Isn't that kind of okay? It's a newer version of the phone um. Well, let's take a look at some other percentages. The iPhone 12, the normal size would basically go from 11 to 12. Of course, remember. It is more expensive than last year's iPhone and 100 more expensive than the mini was 24 to 33 of sales.

So I think that alone, the fact that there is a twenty percent to oh thirty percent, increase in sales on the 12 versus the mini kind of shows that the mini experiment might be a one and done, and, according to some data from apps, the iPhone 12 mini, has the smallest installation base of the last three years of iPhones. Now, my guess is apple had an idea that they would sell a lot of iPhone minis when they first came out with this idea that the smaller version of phones would do well. Of course, the SC came out the beginning of this year, which gave a form factor that kind of hardens back to the iPhone 6. , and this would be like the newer version of the smaller phone. You know the touchscreen and the no buttons and all that other sort of jazz, but it appears at least on the surface that either a people who even knew about this phone and knew that it was going to be a phone that came out are either not interested or just bought something else, and in this case it looks like it might have been the iPhone 12.

I would also hazard a guess that the people that might be interested in the iPhone 12 mini may not even know that it exists. Even now they saw all the hype about the iPhone 12 12 pro max Phil pro all that stuff and maybe just weren't aware of it. I personally have not seen any commercials for the iPhone 12 mini. You think that that would be something that would be advertised heavily as it is a new type of product. Now I don't know if Apple did so much research as they just assumed that there would be a lot more demand for this um, but apparently they were wrong.

So while we may never know exactly how many of these phones sold, we can tell just based on the data that they did not do well, at least in the launch. That doesn't mean that the holiday season won't be nice to them. Of course, we might see a bunch of activations after Christmas, because these did launch only a little while ago, and certainly during the holiday shopping season. Typically, the iPhones start to ship around September. So because that was not the case this year there might be a pent-up demand for these later we don't know- and it could be that after Christmas, you see a bunch of these light up, but it's my suspicion.

That won't be the case. I just think that the value proposition of this phone isn't quite strong enough. It's only a 100 difference between the iPhone 12 and the mini, and I just think the value is there at the 12. The other thing about this is apple released, more phones this year than really ever before. They had the SE and then, of course, all the 12s.

It's five different versions of phones- and there were many months in between some of these- not only that the big release was the iPhone 12 and 12 pro a lots of people who buy these phones don't even know that there was another release of the pro max and the mini a couple of weeks later. So it's very obvious that people who aren't like tax tech-savvy but definitely want to upgrade their iPhone, might have just walked into a store the first week or two and solve the two options and just bought a 12. Or it could be that they thought the same thing that I did when I talked about the iPhone 12 mini being, perhaps too small, thus having too small of a battery- and you know, while most efforts right now are in lockdown or in home or whatever, and you don't need to worry too much about it. Once everything gets back to normal you're going to need battery life, that's gonna! Last you all day, and you know, judging by some comments on Twitter and even my comment section, that's not really the case. I've even had a couple of you in my comments, tell me that you bought the iPhone 12 mini and had to take it back, because the battery life was not good enough.

If that's you leave me a comment below, let me know, did you buy the iPhone, 12 mini and take it back for some reason? If so, let me know which reason it was now. The question is: is this a failed strategy by apple, or is this just a fluke? Is it just because of this broken up release that people didn't buy it or were they reticent to buy a smaller phone with a complete touch screen without any kind of buttons or anything are the people that are interested in smaller phones, not interested in a full screen iPhone, or could it be that the iPhone 12 with a bigger screen and bigger battery is only 100 more and when you do that in payments, it's actually not that much per month. Could it be that there just isn't enough value for the people that want a smaller phone? They just figure they'll pay the extra 100 bucks and get a slightly bigger phone, or could it be that apple's starting to saturate their market with their own phones? Now that we have so many out there, there's just not as much of a demand for as many phones now, I've always said, like two phones is all the more you need to have, but that a couple of years ago, apple came out with three, and now they're doing four. Really, if you want to count the SC, that's five, that's just too many we're getting into Samsung territory, and you know how Samsung's doing uh when, as far as selling their flagships, not so good and even Samsung is thinking about. Taking back the note and not releasing that anymore, I actually made a video about that I'll leave a link in the description below if they're, seeing a reason to pair back.

I think apple needs to start thinking. Second guessing this, because maybe the mini itself isn't the problem, but maybe the strategy behind this is the problem. What do you think leave me a comment below so does all of this make the iPhone 12 mini a failure I mean? Maybe it depends on how many of these they made if they made a bunch of them, didn't sell very many of them. Then that's inventory, you don't want, I'm sure iPhones typically turn over very fast, and if this is not the case here, if these numbers are indicative at all of how poorly that this phone may have sold, then yes, that's a failure, in which case don't expect to see any more of these anytime soon. However, again time could change things now, the iPhone 12 mini does give you pretty good value for dollar.

I mean it gives you all the technology. You want the OLED, the good camera all that stuff, but the reality is. There comes a point where there's just not people that want a small phone. I think the people that do aren't necessarily buying this year they're much more worried about paying bills. I don't think that an iPhone is really high on their list and, while plenty of the tech YouTubers out there have the mini are enjoying them.

There's just not enough tech YouTubers to make a huge, install base on launch week so apple, I don't know, is it failed? Do you think it's failed? Leave me a comment below hit that subscribe button. Let me know, do you think the iPhone 13 mini will make a return, or was this just the one and done iPhone mini man? That it is. A sad thought got some videos right here, for you make sure you check those out I'll, see you next time. Peace.
