TCL 20 SE Review || It Looks Great, But.....

Okay, so I've been using the tcl20 SC for a few days now and while it is a good phone, there is one main area that it does fall down in and depending on who you are and what you want out of your phone. This may or may not be a dealbreaker. So without further ado, let's get into my full review of the TCL 20 SE. So a very quick recap of the design and specs up front. You have a 6.82 inch, 720p 60hz display with a pixel density of 263 PPI, with a small notch up top which houses the 8, megapixel, f, 2.0, selfie camera bezels are pretty slim all around the phone except the slide chin on the bottom, which is common with budget smartphones. Around back, you have a two-tone plastic finish in what TCL call aurora green.

This adds a very stylish look to the phone, a look that I actually do quite like, there's some small TCL branding on the bottom left and in the center you have your fingerprint reader, which I found to be okay. It never misread my fingerprint, but it isn't the fastest. I've used and lastly, in the left corner houses, the quad camera system, which consists of a 16, megapixel, f, 1.8 sensor, followed by a 5, megapixel, f, 2.2, 115 degree, field of view ultra-wide and then two 2 megapixel macro and depth cameras, although in other markets this phone comes with a 48 megapixel primary camera, there's also a LED flash just to the right of the camera and inside the tcl20. Se is a 5000mah battery which lasts all day, no worries with 18 watt fast charging, support and running the phone is the high-end snapdragon 460 processors, which does have its limitations, but I'll get to that. So, let's talk about the screen in general, I have no complaints, it's plenty bright enough with nice color reproduction and having used the Motorola g30, which also has a 720p display on a regular basis.

This is fine for me. One thing I did notice is when I applied the included screen protector. I found that the screen's touch response got slightly worse, finding myself, pressing a little harder to open, apps and take photos etc. , which I haven't had an issue on any other phone I've used, but all in all, it's a decent screen. Only the serious gamers and those who watch a lot of high definition.

Video will have an issue with it and speaking of the touch response, I generally found that opening apps was good, but there were noticeable times when it was delayed, which is no doubt down to the high-end processor inside and also going back and switching to recent apps sometimes took a second or so longer than it does on other phones, a bit of like gaming with the snapdragon 460 is doable. I played a little of asphalt 9 with the detail levels on high and there were noticeable dropped frames. So I would recommend dropping to default for a smooth experience, although saying that it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but still noticeable and people who do play a lot of games will probably notice it as well and of course, the snapdragon 460 is a 4g processor. So if you want 5g capabilities, then you'll need to upgrade to a snapdragon 480 smartphone such as the Motorola g50 or the OnePlus word n200, for that luxury. The UI of the TCL 20 SE is fine.

Has a sort of stock android feel to it with a few of TCL's own apps, but other than that? No bloatware or games pre-installed and the 5 000 William battery is plenty big enough to last all day, although the rather modest 18 watt, fast charging does take a little while to top up. So, if you're someone that's often in a rush and needs juice quickly, I'd look elsewhere. Now, I'm pretty sure you've probably guessed what my main issue is with this phone, and that is of course the camera. Now I went in with a bit of an open mind, knowing that I wasn't going to get a huge amount for less than 100 quid, but what I did find was a very frustrating camera experience, so I'll start with the 8 megapixel selfie camera stills from this camera were very inconsistent and take this example. This is probably the worst selfie that I've taken on any of the phones that I've reviewed.

I just think the overall image has a very dark look to it. There's not a huge amount of detail which, from an 8 megapixel sensor, is expected anyway, and then there's this one. The portrait mode completely misses my hat, and the area around my ears at the top is a bit dodgy as well and again, the whole thing has a dark look to it. I tried a couple of times on different days and the results were very much the same now on to the main camera. Take this photo in an open field.

It's okay, colors, look a little muted, but the overall quality is pretty good, but then, oddly switching to the much lower res ultra-wide, and you get this less detail. Yes, but a photo with more true to life, color and one that I actually prefer to the main camera. And this one taken of a bit of greenery in the garden, looks okay, but colors again are slightly dull and when you crop in you can see a lot of detail, but the same photo taken with the Motorola g30 improves on color and cropping in. You can definitely see more detail overall, a more pleasing photo and when it comes to video, while the look of the video is okay, the lack of autofocus makes it difficult switching between subjects having to tap the screen to refocus on the area that you want, and I will also add a small slide of some more photos from the TCL 20se at the end. So you can, let me know in the comments how you think it performs.

So that's my experience briefly with the TCL 20se. Now, while everyday use is pretty good, it is seriously let down by the camera experience and for me personally, that does make it hard to recommend, and especially, if you're, able to stretch to around 40 pounds more, you could get something like the Motorola g8 power which, although it's from last year, it has a more powerful processor, much better camera, a better screen. It makes the tcl20se a hard sell. But what do you think? Do you have a tcl20? Se? Are you thinking of buying one? Let me know in the comments and if you did enjoy this video, give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe and ding the notification bell. So you know when I make a new video and until next time, thank you for watching I'll, see you in the next huh you.
