TCL 10 SE: celular com BOA BATERIA E CÂMERAS, mas um Helio P22 já CANSADO | Análise / Review

Subtitled by Paulo Montenegro - @pmontenegroreal (Twitter) The manufacturer TCL has been shyly betting on the cell phone segment here in Brazil and at the end of 2020 it brought three new smartphones to the national market, two basic and one intermediate. Today we are going to check out what the 10 SE has to offer, being the most advanced of the trio launched a few months ago. It arrived costing more than R$ 2,000, but now, it can be found for much less. Is it a good buy? This is what you will discover in this review by tudocelular. com. When taking the TCL 10 SE out of the box, we already have a good surprise: it is lighter than most intermediates we tested recently with just 166g - its design also draws attention, despite the all-plastic finish.

The buttons on the sides have a metallic finish to give the impression of superior quality while the rear is made of matte plastic that reflects light in various shades. The version we tested has the entire housing in a shade of dark blue that does not easily show the accumulation of fingerprints. It features horizontally aligned cameras that resemble the older LG models in this segment. The biometric reader is just below the one next to the company logo and works well and responds quickly. On the right side we have the power and volume control button while on the left side there is a hybrid drawer for two chips or a chip + memory card for expansion, in addition to a button dedicated to Google Assistant that cannot be remapped for another function.

At the top we have a headphone jack and at the bottom we have a USB-C connection and its only speaker. In terms of connectivity, we have the positive aspect of the presence of NFC, but, on the other hand, TCL ended up capping the Wi-Fi that does not support the ac standard for 5 GHz networks. The 6.5-inch screen and HD resolution Plus is in the segment average. It delivers an acceptable level of brightness but can make viewing a little more difficult on sunny days. The IPS panel brings a good level of contrast and a wide viewing angle, but the standard calibration is not impressive, so don't expect true-to-life colors.

The device's only speaker delivers low sound power but isn't nearly as unbalanced as the other basics we've tested - except when you use the maximum volume, which makes the sound more strident. The 10 SE comes with a headset in the box, an accessory that is not very comfortable and has poor sound quality with a lack of midrange. The TCL 10 SE descent comes equipped with Mediatek's Helio P22, a very common chip in basic cell phones especially from the "deceased" LG - it is already out of date and unacceptable hardware for the price that TCL arrived charging at its intermediary; he wasn’t excited about our “eating a dust” speed test for cheaper rivals from Samsung, Motorola and LG. Despite having 4GB of RAM, it cannot hold many open game applications in the background. In benchmarks it is also behind Hélio P35, Exynos 9611 and Snapdragon 460, achieving less than 100 thousand points in AnTuTu.

This is not the type of cell phone that will excite those who enjoy synthetic tests. And in games? As seen in others with Helio P22, it is possible to perform well in light games but chokes on heavier titles with Asphalt 9, PUBG or CoD Mobile. Even if you reduce the graphic quality you will hardly have good fluidity. Really and it was a bad choice by TCL since this chip is already out of date for entry-level models, let alone for an expensive intermediary. If performance is disappointing, we can't say the same for battery life.

The Helio P22 showed how many times it yields well in the hands of LG and the same happened with TCL, which brings software well optimized for consumption. The 10 SE delivers the battery for two days quietly and is among the best we've tested outperforming models with 5,000 mAh or even more. TCL sends a 15-watt charger with the cell phone that makes the battery fill completely in just over 2 hr. It may not be an impressive time, but there is still a lot in between that spends more time in the making. Accelerated charging could be more agile, as a 15-minute fast charge recovers just 13% and reaches 26% with half an hour of charge.

The 10 SE is currently running Android 10 and TCL promises that it will be updated to version 11 of the robot even though there is no certain date at the time of this review. The TCL interface is close to the standard Android but has minor modifications such as the application drawer that organizes your applications and games by categories - it is possible to switch to the standard organization in alphabetical order. The software is not heavy but there is a lack of fluidity in the animations, possibly due to the overly basic hardware. The split screen and dark mode feature is supported but don't expect customization options. It is not even possible to even configure the Google Assistant button to open the camera, for example.

And speaking of cameras, we have a triple set at the rear with a 48 MP primary, a 5 MP secondary with an UltraWide lens and a third 2 MP to help blur scenarios. On the front to an 8 MP camera. We have already seen in several LG models that the Helio P22 has a good post-processing of the image and the same happens in the 10 SE - apparently, TCL did not err in the optimization of the camera software and its intermediary records good photos with clarity inside the expected for a sensor of this resolution and well-balanced colors - it is also not bad for night shots and compared to entry-level models or other cell phones with the Helio P22, it ends up being average. The problem is that with the high price it already competes with other better cell phones in night scenes. UltraWide already exaggerates more in contrast, which results in photos with more vibrant colors, but with a darker black.

This compromises the details of the shadows, not to mention that the corners of the photos are smoothed, in addition to presenting distortion. HDR looks great in backlit scenes while the blur camera doesn't always apply the effect to the whole photo. The front camera is capable of recording good selfies during the day and the portrait mode has few errors despite the somewhat artificial effect due to the lack of HDR. In dark places we already have grainy images with excessive noise, so it is good to try to take selfies near a light source. The camcorder records in Full HD with the rear camera and also the front camera.

The quality is inferior to that of the photos - there is no stabilization system and the audio capture is only mono. At least, the focus is not slow - although the white balance and exposure fluctuate a lot whenever the phone tries to readjust the focus. As seen, the TCL 10 SE is not really a bad cell phone but its price is far above the ideal. What can we find most interesting on the market? The K62 Plus comes with Helio P35, a slightly more powerful chip that guarantees better performance. LG may have abandoned the cell phone market, but the K62 Plus delivers a good battery and has a camera similar to the TCL intermediary; the Galaxy M21S has a battery almost as good as that of TCL and still delivers better performance and superior cameras - want a newer model? The Moto G10 is also a little faster and its battery lasts well, however, the cameras are inferior but the Motorola software is more current and comes with nice extras.

The TCL 10 SE is that type of cell phone that will be beaten by the Brazilian consumer. It has nothing special to justify the hefty price, which makes it difficult for us to recommend it. A fair price for him would be R $ 800 which is the value found in basic LG cell phones with Helio P22. If it appears for that price, you will have a phone with a good screen, excellent battery and good cameras - the sound could be better and the performance is a little disappointing, however, the most important point is to know if TCL will give good support to it , since months have passed since the launch and no update on Android - at this point, Samsung is the one that stands out the most. Anyway, we help you find the TCL 10 SE with the best offers just access the links below.

Take the opportunity to comment if you think it is worth it or better to go to one of the rivals. I will wrap up here, a big hug and see you next time.
