TCL 10 Pro Long Term Review

What's going on testing too loud, recording, g'day folks Connor here from cw tech reviews back with another video and today my full review of the TCL 10 pro. How good does that? Look? It just looks amazing before I get started just want to say this. Video was made possible by the following late nights, filming this filming b-roll editing and countless hours, emailing marketing people begging for an opportunity. Okay, now pity. Song aside, let's look at some specs on the TCL 10 pro we're looking at a snapdragon 675, six gigabytes of ram 128 gigs of storage, 4 500 William hour battery a 6.47 inch display massive display, and it's an AMOLED one at that at 398 for the PPI people, and then you've got this ball terror of a camera or camera setup. I should say on the front: you've got a 24 megapixel selfie camera on the back.

You've got a 64 megapixel main lens, then you've got a 16, megapixel wide angle lens, then a 5 megapixel macro and then a 2 megapixel depth sensor, which puts in a lot of choices for the average person the specs are legit. I dig those specs and I dig that price point now. If we look at some design of the TCL 10 pro there's a couple of things that stand out for me with this, but we'll get through the basics first, so you've got glass on the front and back of the device, with an aluminum frame on the top. You've got 3.5, mil headphone port and a microphone and here's one of the sneaky beds you've got infrared here. I love that I've already set it up, so I can control my TV with it.

I forgot what that's like. Furthermore, I used to remember going to restaurants with my old Samsung phones and changing the TV channel, the TV that was up on the wall, putting the footie on for me. While I was eating my dinner and everyone else sitting around going who changed the channel, I used to love doing that into restaurants or a doctor's waiting area, or something like that, and it's back with the TCL 10 pro. So if you pick up this, you can control every waiting room. You ever sit in now.

The device does have a curved front display, which is borrowed from a previous time from another device and another manufacturer, but it looks good the front and the back are actually both curved and I really do like the way it sits in your hand. The way it feels it doesn't feel like a 6.47 inch device, it's pretty easy to handle on the right hand, side, you have your volume rocker and your power button and, on the left, hand side. You have this smart key, and you can program this to do whatever you want it to do, and not only just a single press on the smart key. You can program a double press, and you can program a triple press. I've just got a program to do one thing and that's to bring up my Google Assistant.

Now it only has one speaker down the bottom and I don't find it too bad look. You know you're missing out on a dual speaker setup for a phone and front facing speakers you can tell, but it's not too bad, and it does the job, and again you're. Looking at that price point, it's hard to whack in every massive spec, and this is one of the areas where they might have saved a little of money, but made everything else possible and that speaker is definitely not shrewd or tinny happy days. Software TCL has its own version of android 10 here, and I'm currently sitting at July security patch, and I'm currently in October, in real time. So it's a little behind with security updates, but I've also had two updates on the phone in the last week as well.

So it's definitely not slow to update the phone, especially when there are issues that need addressing. However, the security patches are a little behind, not massively, so you know, there's only a few players that get them out on time. Every time and that's one is googled, the other one is Samsung and then everyone else sort of just doesn't when they feel like it. But it's early by nature. I mean this is one of the first real phones from TCL.

I mean there's a bit of a history here with TCL and electronics, but it's early days for their software. Furthermore, I mean you look at phones like lg and companies. Furthermore, I mean look at this. Lg has been around since before phones were phones, I mean that is ancient. You know, and Samsung are quite similar and some other brands that have gone away been around for a long time as well.

So when you think of this as one of their first devices, the software could be described as juvenile, but it's not bad in any way. In fact, it's quite similar to companies like Oppo or realm. It's customizable. It works. Well, it's unique in its own way and a couple of key areas.

It is smooth and it is responsive. Now, when I go from the software, I go straight into talking about the performance and I think the performance on this device is really, really solid. Again. We're talking six gigs of ram we're talking a snapdragon 675 and they both seem to work well together with that software to provide a good experience, and I didn't have any issues navigating through applications going back and forth between applications doing some light gaming and by light gaming I mean games like PUBG asphalt, 9 Leo's fortune. All of these games, my usual test games held up well, was still really responsive and looked really nice on this display.

Now TCL does say that they have this dedicated display engine technology called not vision which I do enjoy playing with and, as you can see from these settings that the not vision does offer some customization in the way. You view your display, and it can really add some punch to the images that you're looking at and to top it off. I didn't really see any skipped frame rates. While gaming, I didn't, have any lag in day-to-day use. I think the software, combined with the hardware really cope well together to give you a nice solid performance camera.

Your main shooter is a 64 megapixel, and it puts out quite good images, especially in good, solid lighting. Really nice image you'll be really impressed with it. Once the sun goes down, and you're left with streetlights or artificial lights, it can start to struggle a bit and, as you can see in this image, the sky has turned mush, but some other areas of the shot are still in good focus and have a good image, and that's always going to be the case within this price range, and my only time it has never been. The case is when I've been using. My pixel 3, which I picked up for a similar price, but something I've noticed recently is that people realize that they're not a photographer, and they don't always want the best camera in a phone.

A lot of people don't use their cameras very much and if they do is for a quick selfie for social media, and they just want to be able to manipulate the photo to make themselves look as fake as possible, so that doesn't really matter what camera they use. For that, however, the TCL 10 pro, I think, offers a bit more than that. You've got many choices to use within the cameras. The wide angle is definitely wide, and you can zoom in up to 10 times now, once you zoom into ten times it falls apart, like on most cameras, so you want to stick to that one to two times: zooming, with your feet. Instead, you'll get a better shot every time and the macro you can get a very similar image by taking a photo of something and then cropping in so don't get too caught up in the bells and whistles that 64 megapixel shooter does an amazing job for the price and will get you out of trouble most times.

The 24 megapixel front-facing camera also produces quite a good image for the price point. Video offers 30 frames per second across 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4k, and it's just 30 frames per second across the board, but they do also offer a slo-mo option as well. So you can play around with that and have some fun. However, it would have been nice to get that 60 frames per second, at least in 1080p. Overall, I think it's a little above average for the price point when it comes to the camera.

I think you'll be quite pleasantly surprised with its performance, and it will get you out of trouble. If this is your budget, then you can get a perfect camera with some perfect specs. Now another area where most people ask me about all the time is the battery life. What's the battery life like it's, what I get all the time for all phones, and I can say that I honestly get a full two days use out of the TCL 10 pro now. That's because the battery is quite large, but I also think it has a bit to do with the display and the way the software is optimized.

I can just push it hard, and I'll still get two days of use out of it. Now, if you're a light user, you will definitely get three days of use out of this if you're, a medium user I'd say you know two days is you know you want to just get to the second day and put it on charge and if you're, a heavy user, you're going to scrape through to two days, maybe put it on charge after a day and a half, but definitely for my use, which is quite heavy, use, I'm doing a lot of media consumption. I use it for work, or you've got two jobs that I use it for I use it for photography, videography and gaming. I just push all my phones a fair bit, and it definitely held up battery life two days now. How would I sum up the TCL 10 pro, and I'd have to say that the key word I'm looking at here is its a workhorse.

It's got that six gigs of ram. It's got the snapdragon 675. Furthermore, it's got the big battery. Furthermore, it's got the five lenses. This is a workhorse.

It's going to get you through every day, and you're going to be satisfied with it. This phone does not struggle with anything I throw at it. It just looks incredible: it definitely hits that sweet spot for being a mid-ranger. In this price point you can choose from maybe three or four phones, and this is definitely in that mix of three or four phones you can choose from. If that 700 to 800 price range, is you that's pretty much it folks thanks for watching the video, I really appreciate it.

The TCL 10 pro should be considered. Thank you, TCL. Thank you, everyone for watching, and I'll catch you in the next video.
