What's up everybody, my name is Diana and welcome to honestly today we're checking out the galaxy s 20 ultra and starting at $1,400. Is this thing worth it? Well, in my humble opinion, I don't think it is, and here's the thing everybody like I am Korean. I am Korean American. So for me to say, Korean brand like Samsung is not. That great is like me backstabbing, my country, because my dad is always telling me. Samsung is best upon because Corey hunt.
He says it just like that. Actually it's so bad that my family refuses to buy my grandparents anything except for LG or Samsung, like they won't buy them an iPhone, even though that's probably one of the easiest to use for older folks, they refuse to buy them one because again, Korean phone is best upon. So you know that when I tell you that I don't think this phone is great. You know that, I'm being honest, so sorry I'm, sorry APA, but without further ado. Let's get honest.
So, let's start with the price. $1400 is a lot of money. This model right here is the $1400 one. It's got 128 gigs of hard drive space and 12 gigs of RAM. At this point, if you guys are like alright I'm out, there's too much for me, make sure you guys like and subscribe before.
You guys leave and leave a funny comment below, but I start with the price, because that is a lot of money and because of that I'm going to be extra picky. When it comes to this phone. I just want to give you guys some comparisons for what fourteen hundred dollars could buy. You google, this, and you can actually buy about 763 rolls of toilet paper at $22 for a 12-pack and that it will last you about a year, I think, or you could buy yourself a Sony, a 6500 with a kit lens and still have four or five hundred dollars left over, or you could buy yourself probably about 70% of the laptops out there, including laptops that you can use for pretty good gaming performance. So I just want to lay it out there in terms of what you could buy.
If you decided not to pick this up and stayed with your old phone, the next thing I want to talk about, is Samsung's update policy. Now you guys might have heard that all the news that, when the phone was first released, Samsung was screen to make sure they got all these updates out for their phone, because people were running into a lot of bugs, and you might look at that and say: oh good, on Samsung way to respond to you know the users come in communities needs, but actually, if you look at Samsung's policy, you'll find that Samsung stops pushing out major OS updates to their phones after only two years, and that is terrible because one that's just a crummy policy and two because I hear a lot of people saying I'm going to pick this phone up for future proofing. Look! This phone comes with the latest greatest features such as snapdragon 865, and if you don't know what that means. Basically it comes with things like Wi-Fi, six and five G and the latest and greatest Bluetooth features. But the problem is: is that even though it comes with the best Hardware? Currently, in the United States, we hardly use any of those things right now, like 5g, hasn't been fully pushed out, and it's not fully mature Wi-Fi 6 requires a whole separate router and your internet service provider needs to get on that, but a lot of people, a lot of ISPs have not done that yet so for us to take full advantage of this thing's hardware, it's going to take some time, so you have to ask yourself: do I want to hold on to this phone and risk Samsung, not pushing out major OS updates and possibly missing out on some of the features that the greatest latest hardware today can provide say two or three years in the future, so something to think about really quickly guys, if you guys, like this video, make sure you guys like and subscribe as that would help this channel a lot and make sure you leave a comment about how my phone case seems to match the color of my shirt.
Now again, my phone comes with twelve gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of hard drive space and having that extra RAM is nice, because Samsung has a feature where you can pin your apps directly to the memory and that allows you to pull your apps up every time. You use it just a little faster and prevents it from ever refreshing. In the background, this is a big phone. It's so big, and it's so interesting that, like my mind for some reason when it looks at this phone, my mind's like yeah, that's a two-handed phone. You need to use two hands for this thing versus like something my like the OnePlus 7 pro.
For some reason. When I look at this, my brain tells me you got this, you can do it, you can do it one hand and for some reason, and then I'll try to use it with one hand, and it always ends up in disaster. I'm always miss clicking things, I access menus with my palm that I don't even know how to get to normally, and it's crazy, but with the Samsung when my eyes look at it, my brains like yeah, you can't do this use two hands, and it's good and bad because on one hand, because my brain admits defeat, I'm always using two hands and I never make any misses because of that, but it's also inconvenient because it means that you can't use it discreetly, like say under a table or something like that, you can't use it one-handed, don't even try it's not going to work. The screen on this phone is gorgeous. It's huge at six point: nine inches, which is one of the biggest screens out there.
It is bright, and the colors are nice and vibrant and yeah. Furthermore, it's just a really, really good screen, and you can't really understand how big it is until you see it next to devices like my 1 +, 7 Pro and the iPhone 10. But the other thing to note is that this screen comes with the ability to scroll or to refresh on 120 Hertz, and what that means is you want to get buttery, smooth scrolling and media consumption and gaming? It's just going to look amazing, but keep in mind that you can't use 120 Hertz at the maximum resolution that the screen can put out. So if you try to put it in 1440p, it won't allow you to use the hundred twenty Hertz, and it'll come back down to sixty Hertz. You can only use it at a hundred twenty Hertz at the 1080p or less than 1080p.
So keep that in mind. Samsung has done a great job in reducing the curves around the glass, which means less miss touches, but it's still not usable without a case in my humble opinion, because it's so big even with two hands, my palms are constantly missed, touching things. So that's kind of unfortunate because it means that you have to use a case and, in my case, I actually bought the gray case from Samsung. But, as you can see, they sent me anything but write it. If this is their idea of gray, then they are color-blind, because this is much more like a very pretty blue write.
This phone comes with a massive battery at 5,000 watt hours, and it's been enough to get me through a day even with 120 Hertz refresh on I come home with about 20 30 % battery and keep in mind that the charger that comes with this thing only charges at 25 watts, but this phone can handle 45 watts, and you might want to invest in that extra charger because, with the stock charger that Samsung provides, it takes this phone over an hour to fully charge, and if you want to buy that 45 watt charger, it's going to cost you more money at about 30 to 50 dollars with the 45 watt charger. It'll. Probably take you, maybe about 45, to 50 minutes to charge for 20% to 100 in terms of buttons. This phone only comes with two: it comes with a power button and a volume rocker. There is no more dedicated Bigamy button, which Samsung fans rejoice.
You guys did it, but here's. The thing that annoys me with this is that there is no dedicated vibration, switch and I find that to me, like really frustrating, because I can't think of a single person out there that wouldn't benefit from a vibration switch without a switch. You have to stare at it or put your finger on it, unlock it and then hold the rocker and then okay I'm good, and then you lock the phone I. Don't know it's just it's! Why? Wouldn't you include it Samsung out that it confuses me on top of that, Samsung has decided to put their volume rocker and the power button on the same side as and there's nothing on the left side? I, don't get why they wouldn't just move the volume rocker to the left side, because it's a two-handed device anyway, and the reason why that's frustrating is because, when my phone, when I go to lock my phone, and I'm, not looking at it straight on or out my finger right on the lock button, I've actually missed touched the volume buttons thinking that they were the lock button. Many many times even my wife has done it when she tries to use my phone so a little frustrating I wish they had just moved it over to the left.
It would have been a little easier to use in terms of usability. This phone is fast, but honestly in 2020, every phone should be fast. There's just a lot of competition out there. There should be no phone at this price point that is slow, but for some reason this phone feels slower I'm, not saying it is. It feels slower than say my 1 + 7 Pro, because of some things like this, like, for example, when you go to lock your phone from your screen being on, there's this kind of fade to black, as opposed to just kind of blocking out really quickly, and it takes a second for the phone or the always-on display turn back on, and it always takes a couple seconds before we can unlock your phone again because of that slight delay.
On top of that, I noticed that for some reason, when I try to use my fingerprint unlock when the phone is at the unlock screen, so not this one, but at this screen here when you try to use your fingerprint unlock there, there is a little of lag, sometimes, and I think it has to do with the fact that, as soon as you turn to your unlock screen face unlock, if you have, that activated, is also trying to detect your face. So I think sometimes the wires get crossed a little and I find that there is just like a little of delay when you try to do that, not always, but occasionally you'll experience. Some delays I'm also pretty upset with the fingerprint sensor that Samsung put in this. First, it's old tech. There is new tech out there for in screen fingerprint readers, but Samsung chose not to put it in this phone and I think they knew that I think they knew that people wouldn't like their fingerprint sensor.
So, in my humble opinion, it seems like Samsung tried to bury it as much as possible and here's what I mean by that. First, the fingerprint sensor is like two inches from the bottom, and that is a weird place: to put it like every other phone, including Samsung's old phones. Where were all the fingerprint sensors, they were at the very bottom where the home button would be, but for the fingerprint sensor to be 2 inches from the bottom. It is a really, really odd place to put it on top of that. The fingerprint sensor area is tiny, I'm talking about tiny.
If you look at the size of that fingerprint, it is the size of my son's, a pinky finger, and he's three years old like that is a tiny little area. On top of that, there is no sense of haptic feedback or any kind of visual at whatever, so that you know that whether your phone is unlocking or not, and the final thing, the final nail in the coffin for me, is that the fingerprint sensor like if you look at the 1 + 7 Pro, the fingerprint sensor, is a huge, distinct color. So you'll know where it is, even if the phone is laying down as opposed to the Samsung. The fingerprint sensor is this really dull gray, and it's impossible to see if your phone is at any kind of distance from you, while laying straight on the ground. So it is like it's like Samsung doesn't really want.
You use the fingerprint sensor, and they rather use the face unlock which- and you know again, the face unlock will start to activate as soon as you lift your phone up from the ground. If you have that feature on, so I, don't know it's a little frustrating for me, because if you follow me, you'll know that I much prefer in screen. Fingerprint readers, as opposed to face unlock and I, was frustrated when everybody got rid of the fingerprint unlock, because for me, if you're in a meeting or something- and you don't unlock your phone discreetly to do with your finger, you can just do it really quickly with your finger, and you're done. But with all this face, unlock and I, you have to go like I. Don't know it's just super awkward.
So let's talk about that camera. It is big. It is huge. Furthermore, it is probably bigger than what you think it is this thicker it is taller. Furthermore, it is wider than what you think it is, and on top of that is not well protected, because this is an official Samsung case and even with the Samsung official case, if I run my finger across this I can feel that camera or the lens is not well protected, which means, if you drop it, have you heard that that was glass hitting the table because that's rubber hitting the table and that's glass hitting the table.
So this thing is not well protected, so make sure you keep it away from things like sand or diamonds or really sharp objects. I'm, not a professional photographer I like taking pictures, and I am experiencing what everybody else is experiencing when it comes to video I am experiencing this kind of weird focus breathing and if you don't know what that means, it's like the phone can't determine what it wants to focus on and so you'll kind of see. This constant zoom in your content sees constant focus and focus out, so I have experienced that issue and again this is a. This is a pretty good. Camera like it is one of the best zoom cameras on any phone out there today, so that, if you were to take that zoom, and you were to zoom in the same amount with any other phone out there, this phone would get you a better picture quality.
Now that doesn't mean that the zooms going to give you the best picture quality out there of all time. It's still going to be pretty bad if you zoom in pretty far, but it's just going to be sharper than any other phone at the same focal length. I do like Samsung's camera app, though I think it's one of the most intuitive and easiest to use of all the stock camera apps out there. But here's the thing guys. If you wanted to buy this phone, so you could have the best camera in the business.
Unfortunately, it's not gonna, get you there and at $1,400 I, don't think that's okay, especially with all the camera issues that they're having, and they might be, software updates. But it's been a while, since this phones been out right and my phone is still doing the focus breathing when it comes to video. So if you guys are looking for a great camera, I highly recommend you guys instead spend your money elsewhere, either on a different phone with a better camera, or you wait for some of these new phones that are about to come out. Like the iPhones been announced, the OnePlus 8 has been announced, although historically they haven't had great cameras. The pixel has been announced as well, so might be something to wait for if you're looking for the best camera.
Meanwhile, you could again pick up a select something like a Sony, a 6500 with a kit lens which would be a much better camera than all the phones out there, and you would still save your money if you opted not to buy this thing, but I don't want to be too preachy here. So what is my overall opinion on the Samsung Galaxy S 20 I mentioned at the beginning, right, like I, don't think it's a great phone, and I'm betraying my peoples by saying that, but I say that, because from the weird button layout design to the crazy investment they probably spent on the camera, which number one isn't that useful to most people and number two is still having issues to the point where they didn't spend money on other areas. That I think would have improved the usability of the phone and then extending even to the fact that Samsung won't update. There won't push out major OS updates, even after two or just after two years, you combine all those things together, and I got to say, like I can't recommend this phone to anybody, and you might ask like well what about the lower lines? What about just a regular S 20? But here's the thing everything is the same. The button layout is sustained.
The fingerprint reader is the same. The camera might be a little different, but OS update policy is the same. Everything is the same. All that's happening is that it's just a little more bearable because the price is lower, but I still think that's too many compromises for this starting price. I.
Think at the beginning line the lower line is still like seven, eight hundred dollars. That's a lot of compromises, you're making for that price point, especially when you've got all these competitors that are about to release their high-end phones, so I would recommend, wait and, for the time being, I would not recommend this phone or anything that the s20 line that Samsung has come out with. So what do you guys think am I crazy and my nuts and my super 1 plus 7 Pro fanboys, now am I a secret iPhone lover. Let me know in the comments below make sure you guys like and subscribe and until next time guys stay honest.
