Sony Xperia 5 ii vs. Sony A7iii HEAD-TO-HEAD BATTLE

The Sony, Xperia 5 mark ii is promoted as a great camera for filmmakers, which isn't surprising, giving Sony's amazing credentials in the camera market. They know cameras about as well as anyone in the world does so. Their phone should deliver. Amazing video, however, a phone is still just a phone. It's got tiny little lenses and a small sensor, so nobody should expect it to compete with, say a full frame, Sony, a7 iii, camera. But let's do it anyway, just to see what happens.

The Xperia 5 mark ii includes the cinema pro app, which gives you a ton of control over features that are usually hard to get on a phone, including frame rate ISO, white balance and shutter speed. Now, just to be clear, there's no universe in which this can compete with a Sony, a7 iii, it's just an unfair matchup in this head-to-head comparison, you're going to see some super nice footage from the a7 3 and then some not as super nice footage from the Xperia 5 mark ii. There's no amazing surprise where the phone footage looks just as good as the camera footage. So just like prepare yourself emotionally for that disappointment. All that said, I really want to see exactly what this phone can and can't do in a filmmaking situation.

So I can better understand how and when to use it. I want to compare the video quality. The shutter speeds, the low light performance. All of that the a7 3 will show us how good the footage could look under perfect circumstances, and then we'll get a better sense for where the Xperia 5 mark ii lands. So I'm going to go out with two tripods and basically have the a7 3 and the Xperia 5 mark ii take basically identical shots, and I'm going to match them as closely as I can.

Are you ready? I'm not sure if you are, but if you say so here we go so so do. What did you think of that? Let me know in the comments you.
