Sarah everybody and welcome back to the channel in today's video we're going to talk about the s pen, specifically the smaller version. That goes within the note, 20 note, 20 ultra and of course, earlier this year they released the larger version that works with the s21 ultra. They technically unleashed the s-pen from the note series, which used to typically be an s-series with an s-pen with better specs. That was the kind of like the cornerstone recipe for a node device in 2021. We are not getting a node device, we are getting a z-fold 3 s, pen support the s pen pro if the leaks are true, we'll find that out tomorrow, the unpacked event, but that's changing the game. When it comes down to note, I think we can no longer see the note devices or the note series from Samsung the same way and I feel like they may have damaged the future of the note.
This is TK. Let's go ahead and talk about the s pen and how it's changing the future of the note. You guys are new to the channel and you, like these type of topics, make sure to hit that subscribe and like and the bell icon so that you're notified whenever we have new videos for you on the channel. The note devices have always been known for a few specific iconic features. They typically have the largest display of a phone that Samsung releases that year they typically have an s pen again enclosed within the device, so there's a silo for the s-pen in there.
So it's always been easy to carry the s-pen with it. We typically have the latest and greatest specifications from Samsung for that year, so whatever year it is. Let's take 2020. Since we have a note there. The note 20 is basically, or the note 20 ultra is the best version of the smartphones that they've released so the best ram camera system.
Everything large display high refresh rate, all the bells and whistles typically go into the note, and then on top of that, of course, we've had SD card support. MST support, all the other things that we typically expect from Samsung. So at the end of 2020 we saw that basically the note 20 ultra was released, and I feel like that literally is one of the best options and that's this guy. This is the note 20 ultra it's the largest of the two that they offered uh. The ultra does have a SD card memory, expansion where the standard one did not uh, not only that we also still have MST support here.
We have the s-pen support, of course, no headphone jacks that kind of went out the door a while back, but it has the largest display on the market technically still about larger than what the s20 ultra or the s21 ultra has, and that's because typically that's how it is, and it's also less rounded that's the other thing. The notes are always more squarish, so you can kind of see them right. There they're a little more squarish boxy. So up to this point, we've had a series of devices. Every year we get an update.
There was that little of a hiccup with the note 10, sorry, the note 7, but that one kind of rebounded right there was a recall they took it back and then they re-released it. As the note, 7 fan editions, so in theory the note 7 never really went away. It's still there. The note 20 was last year's edition the latest edition. Again it's Bayer about a year, almost old, it's running the snapdragon 865.
It has a 5g connectivity, all the things that we expect. It's still technically the best note that they've ever made, because there is no sequel, the s21 ultra comes out in the beginning of this year, and it's obviously supporting the 888. But the main feature that they added here that was unique- and I was highly anticipated- is the fact that they gave it the s pen, which means the display on the s21 ultra and by the way only the ultra has the s pen, the standard, s21 and s21 plus do not have that functionality. The display doesn't support it. That was something that was very nice, and I like the fact that I no longer needed to carry or basically wait every year for a note series to pick up an s-pen.
If I want to, and for me, I'll explain this very easily, I like to use the s21 ultra with an s pen that actually have docked on my tab. S7 plus the s7 plus, carries my s pen, I don't carry it with the phone because there really isn't an easy way for it to be carried in there without adding kind of widths and having us use a specific case made for it. The s21 now is, for all intents and purposes, the note 21 of 2021. That is the reason why we don't have a note 21 this year. There really was a weird situation.
Do you release a note 21 with basically the same specification as the s21 ultra, and the only big difference is that you probably have an s pen that actually fits inside the phone as opposed to having to carry it with you, and I think Samsung decided to do the right move and skip the no 20 series or the note series for 2021, and then they also kind of gave us a little of a teaser at the beginning of year? On the unpacked event, they told us that there's going to be two versions of an s pen, so the s pen that comes like this. This is the standard one you're able to pick that up with the case was released early in the year and the s pen pro was also announced, but they said they will be coming out later. Well, lo and behold, we have an unpacked event tomorrow and a device that's going to be, or at least rumored to be supporting an s pen. So if the z-fold 3 supports an s-pen more than likely that's going to be the z-full 3 with uh the s-pen pro that we heard earlier this year now for me, that gives us more functionality. The tease desk with us basically saying you know: Bluetooth functionalities, something a little more along the line of what happened with the s pen that we have on the s20 LD and the s20 ultra.
The reason behind this is this actually have connectivity and functions directly to our phone. I can actually trigger an image, do gestures on the phone and all of those were controlled, because this is actually paired to this phone. It only works with it and only works with note devices where the s pen, that came out with the s21 ultra earlier in the beginning of the year doesn't do that. It works on the display. So I'm able to do all the touches all the functions that I'm able to do on the note series on the s21, but there was no Bluetooth connectivity.
I could not gesture. I could not trigger an image. All of that still had to be done manually with the phone, so the pro though, or the s pen pro, is supposed to fix that again. If everything holds up and all the features that they mentioned are true. The z for 3 looks like it's coming in with a massive well feature that I don't think any other foldable has down the market right now and that's something that makes me very excited, and I'm coming from the point of view of a galaxy default 2 owners.
I also had the first generation galaxy z-fold and I had to deal with some issues there, the z-fold 2. It definitely has fixed a lot of the concerns and the issues that we had with the first generation, and then they moved forward in a direction that I felt was the right move. They gave us a better display on the front. They gave us, obviously, a better hinge, uh, better resistance, no water resistance on that one, although they're rumored to be better resistance, or at least a better water resistance on both the z, Philip iii and the z fold. Three, but we'll have to see what Samsung announces tomorrow.
The biggest thing that I really like here is the fact that we have a bigger functional display on the front that forced well that enabled us to actually use the phone without having to unfold it. Unless you need to the z-flip. Has that big problem, because you can't use that phone without opening up meaning on a consistent basis, you're flexing the display all the time which, in my opinion, kind of hinders the lifespan of the display, if you have to kind of put it in, in certain words and the z-fold, to fix that the default three looks like it's moving forward with one more feature and that's the ability of adding an s-pen to it. Now, I'm not sure if this is going to be basically an esp non all the display, or it's going to be just on the outside display, because I feel like honestly, they could have done an s-pen on the external display on the z-fold 2 a year ago, because the display on the outside is actually it has a glass covering, and you could have potentially made it very easily by just using a different panel. Now, I'm not sure if that was something that was basically planned to be held off for now again Samsung planning and all of that stuff.
I'm not going to be able to comment on that, but I can say this much if the s-pen truly does come through, and it actually becomes available on the z-fold 3. There really is no more reason for us to pick up a note, a note or a smartphone. That is considered to be a note. The reason behind that is, it's very simple. What makes a note unique? Well, it usually comes up later in the year.
It has the best specification of an s-series with an s-pen functionality. Well, the z-fold or the z-fold, and the z-flip are basically coming up now at the end of the year, they're going to show up with the latest specification that Samsung's able to provide us, and they have s-pen support, and if we want the best Samsung device of the s2 or 2021 well, the s21 ultra is already out, and it's been out since the beginning of the year. The 888 plus is not really giving us a lot of features or a lot of horsepower over what we got with the 888. I think it's more based on the AI functionality and algorithms in there, so the overall performance between the 888 and the 8080 plus is going to be basically minuscule or almost unnoticeable to the two most of us. But the fact of the matter is this little s, pen, even if the pro version ends up becoming again, something that provides us more features with connectivity took away.
That need for the note- and I feel, like the note- can never rebound from this, and I don't think this is going to come back for them next year. There's really very few things. They could have done, or they can do to the note series to make it unique now. Up to this point, Samsung has allowed us to use any of the s pens on the s pen, from the note 20 series, as well as the one on the s21 series, are interchangeable, even if you want to use it on the tablet. So my hope is that the s pen, pro or whatever the version of it that comes out ends up becoming something that crosses uh.
All of these devices. Again, we want s pens to work across ecosystems because it actually makes perfect sense if we're able to bring one s-pen that works on my tablet on my phone on my foldable. It makes it so that I don't have to carry so many s-pens just to use devices because they don't have them inside. Like the note 20 series is so, hopefully, tomorrow's unpacked is going to be announcing a bunch of new features. Obviously, the s-pen confirmation, with the leaks that we've seen, is basically poising us to see a very good ruggedized, slightly more ruggedized, z-fold 3 that we saw before so.
My hope is: is it going to compel us as well? Is it going to be compelling enough for us to actually upgrade from the z-fold 2. ? I don't know so far. All the leaks that I've seen have not really enticed me to say. I want to trade in my z-fold 2. , but I will say this much s-pen functionality is something that is unique: the fact that it can turn between a tablet and a smartphone with an s-pen.
I think the z-fold three may have a unique killer feature that no other device on the market has to date, and that's a big feature that I think Samsung needs to capitalize on. They shouldn't sleep on this, and they need to keep pushing it. Even if the note series may not stand as it used to be, I feel like they're diversifying and giving these specific features to the best smartphones on the market that they can put out. So let me know in the comments below, of course, there'll be links in the description below to pre-order your devices. If you decide to go for them, um also gives you the ability to register and get a little of an extra credit.
If you want to do that, I think this is available through or right before the unpacked event so uh. For my impressions, the s21 ultra is seriously still the best rectangular non-folding smartphone that Samsung has released, missed in 2021, supports an s pen and has literally the best camera system that they have. My hope is that the z-fold 3 also delivers and takes us even further, with some of the leaks that we've seen it looks like at least ipx8 or ipx7 some water resistance coming into a foldable again a lot of big changes. Let me know in the comments what you guys think like and subscribe as usual. Thank you very much for the support, and I'll see you well tomorrow, right after the unpacked event, with my initial reactions.
