Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 - BREAKING RECORDS

Foldable smartphones are no longer an experimental lineup and people are now opening to the concept. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 are undoubtedly Samsung's highly anticipated devices of 2021 and Samsung is confident that these new handsets will break the sales record in the foldable genre. The mass production of the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 is in full swing. Jon Prosser reports that Samsung is manufacturing between 50000 to 70000 units of these two handsets a day which is the highest for any foldable phone so far. This accounts for somewhere between 1.5 to 2.1 million Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3s. Samsung has set a target of 7 million sales of these two foldables which is significantly higher than the Z Fold 2 and the Z Flip which combined saw around 1 to 2 million sales.

So this is a clear indication that Samsung is bullish on the sales prospects of its new foldables and Samsung isn't just relying on the new and groundbreaking technologies to sell these handsets, they will also lower the prices to achieve the target. A few days ago we heard that both the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 will be up to 20% cheaper than their predecessors. Today, a new report out of South Korea is confirming the rumor but they haven't mentioned exactly how much Samsung is lowering the prices. In any case, when multiple sources are telling the same thing, it's a good indication that the report is actually true. Honestly, it would be shocking if Samsung didn't actually drop the prices considering we saw a $200 price cut across the entire Galaxy S21 lineup.

Anyway, a new report claims that the Z Fold 3 will also be offered in 512GB storage variants and it won't be limited to China. The base variant will have 256GB storage with 12GB RAM. The phone will have an under-display camera which is a first for both Samsung and the foldable genre. But you shouldn't expect much from it according to Max Winebach who says the quality looks like shhh. This is probably the reason Samsung decided to not use this camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra next year.

The selfie quality is not a big issue on the Z Fold 3 because you have an extra camera on the cover display to fall back to. Plus you can also take selfies with the rear camera. You can't do that on the S22 Ultra, so I think it's a wise decision to delay it until it produces the same quality images as the conventional front cameras. With that said, Samsung has started development on Android 12 for the Galaxy S21 lineup. Google unveiled the first beta of Android 12 in May during the I/O conference and started rolling out the beta 2 update quite recently.

The final Android 12 release could happen in September. As for when the Galaxy S21 should get the update. Samsung will likely start rolling out Android 12 along with the new version of its custom One UI skin towards the end of the year. The company will reportedly hold the Samsung Developer Conference in October where they will officially unveil the OneUI 4 but if last year is any indication, you won't have to wait that long to try out the new UI. It's likely that the first developer beta will arrive sometime in August.
