Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Real World Camera Test

Hey, it's Joshua Ferrara. What's going on everybody all right, finally, getting around to doing the real world camera test with the Samsung Galaxy z, fold 2. ! Now I have it down here on this table and, admittedly because I have it on the table, it's angled upward using the camera's flex mode, which you can use in order to use the front facing camera on the larger display to do stuff. Like this I'll admit, it's not the best angle. So this is definitely not my best angle right now, but bear with me on this. Finally getting around to doing this video because, unfortunately, the last few days uh, we have been under evacuation warning due to the wildfires that are happening in southern California.

One of them is actually not too far from where I live, so I kind of had to take it easy for a little and get all of my belongings ready in case we had to get out of here. What you're seeing right now are a few pictures of what the sky actually looked like for the last couple of days and now that the air quality is better, it's still not great, but it is better now, while I'm taking this moment to be at the porch, where you've seen many videos recently and taken the fact that I can actually see the sky a little, and I can do this video all right couldn't take it anymore. I actually folded the phone up, and now I am doing the more conventional selfie angle, where I'm actually holding the phone, and it's the front facing camera of the cover screen. So I have this thing: folded up right now, uh before I get started with everything, I just want to give a thank you to all the firefighters who have been working diligently and tirelessly to make sure that these fires don't reach our neighborhoods. They got dangerously close to many neighborhoods near where I live, and the north of the fire is getting very close to other ones.

So more evacuation orders have been given, so hopefully everyone can just stay safe and yes, if you are in the greater honestly California area, and you come outside, and you smell smoke- try not to spend too much time outside. I'm spending very little of this video here on my porch all right, so we're taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy, z4 2. I have it in the folded position here, of course, but the whole point of this phone is that you have this amazing large screen here. The thing is this: video is going to be about the cameras, and this isn't going to be like my more conventional real world camera tests, where I take this thing out and basically vlog with it for an entire day, you're going to see a combination of photos and videos that I've taken over the course of my time with this device, and actually I'm set to return. This thing, this review unit is actually a loner, so I just want to be sure to show you some things that you could do with the camera if you're still looking to buy this particular device and haven't actually gotten into the pre-orders.

Yet what's so interesting about this phone is that the cameras themselves are not particularly new, there's, not anything really groundbreaking about them, and you might have heard me say this in a couple of videos already leading up to my final videos on this device. The fact that the cameras are good um, they are definitely more than passable you'll- be able to get some perfect photos and videos using this phone, but it's less about the actual lenses and where and how you can place them in your particular scenes. The main camera comprises three 12 megapixel sensors. Now you have the regular uh just wide angle, at f, 1.8, aperture and then a telephoto at f, 2.4 aperture. Now that telephoto will get you an easy two times, and then you can digitally zoom in some more.

If you want to get more length and the wide and telephoto lenses are the ones that have is and phase detect autofocus, the ultra-wide angle is an f 2.2, aperture lens, and it does not have is or any autofocus, which is usually par for the course for conventional ultrawide lenses.4K video recording is available across the board and if you look inside the camera, app there's actually a lot of the modes, you would expect from the other Samsung flagships. This particular setup is something we've technically seen in previous flagships, like the Galaxy S10 plus. Now there are selfie shooters on here, and I do say plural, because there's one on the cover screen that you could use in a more conventional sense in the candy bar closed formation, but then there's another front-facing shooter on the inner display. So if you do want to have a really large viewfinder, I guess you could go ahead and do that. What really becomes useful about that inner front-facing camera is when you use the phone in the flex mode, and you can actually set up the phone in this sort of like l formation and get yourself into the frame.

This is something that I've already done with a couple of friends on one of those visits, and there was an easy way of getting a nice group photo, but like most front-facing cameras on really any smartphone, the quality here is usually a lot softer, or generally it has the beauty mode on default compared to the rear cameras. So compared to many of Samsung's current flagship devices, there's not a lot to say about the cameras, and that may or may not be a good thing. Depending on your perspective, maybe you do want to have some of those zoom capabilities, or maybe even the higher powered sensors that are found on the galaxy s and the Galaxy Note lines. Well, that's not what you're paying two thousand dollars for when it comes to the galaxy fold. What you're paying for is a form factor that gives you a tablet that you can fit in your pocket, but it also provides some new possibilities for where you place these cameras.

So let's go ahead and dive into that uh. The one that I mentioned before is the flex mode for the front-facing shooters. But then you can use the same formation in order to line up your shot, get your frame just right and then, as you hit, that timer, you just walk right into your frame and become part of the scene. This is something that I very often say to aspiring creatives or maybe even vloggers. Some of the time you need to remember, try to remember to put the camera down and get in front of it from time to time.

Now what would probably be the most common methodology for doing this is using the cover screen as sort of the mat that lies down on the surface, and then you angle, the camera up and down. Now this is fine and all- and I get that this is probably one of those use cases that Samsung had in mind. But it's a little perilous for the front screen to be on a surface that could potentially scratch it. I've said this multiple times in videos already, but it's a good idea to have the screen protector on here, and it makes sense that Samsung really doesn't want you to take it off now. One of the cool things that you can do with this camera system is use the body of the default 2 as a bit of a tripod and there's a pro video mode in here.

That gives you even more control over what you're recording even right, now you're listening to me using the Bluetooth audio recording, I'm not using the gearbox, live by the way, I'm using the Sennheiser momentum twos, and this is what the microphone sounds like from those earbuds but yeah Bluetooth, audio recording is available there. So if you want to do shots like this, where you might be, I don't know presenting something doing a little of vlogging and whatnot. You do have to use the rear cameras, which is a little of a bummer, because it would be great to have the Bluetooth audio feature on the front-facing cameras, but yeah set up your shot, get a few things uh ready to go, so you know where you're going and record audio from a source, that's closer to your mouth, so that the voice sounds good, even if you are away from the camera like. I am right now, so the reason why this is significant is that it helps to eliminate the need at least somewhat for things like phone mounts or tripods or switch pods or gorilla pods or whatever the case may be, because you can literally use the phone's body and form factor as its own stand. There are some phone mounts that should be able to clamp around this phone.

Even when it's closed, I don't imagine, many people are going to be trying to get some perfect footage or some photos with the phone completely opened up. It just doesn't seem too practical for me, and it's not like there are any mounts that would actually be able to clamp around the full tablet display, but maybe there should be something like that, because there's one more way to use this camera that I just find so awesome, and I'll talk about it all the time when I sing the praises of the galaxy's default 2. What you do is you turn on the camera, and then you get this little button here at the top that says selfie once you hit that button, the main cameras become your selfie shooters. It's at that point that you just unfold the device, and you can get real hands with it, and this becomes your vlogging or whatever selfie setup, which is awesome. I just noticed that you can switch the saddle of recording that's like cool.

Are we in the middle of recording yeah nice? I want like a. I want, like a like an auntie, to come up behind me with their iPad and just be like. Oh YouTube, me too. Also. This is a good opportunity for me to try out things like live focus.

Video, obviously you're, seeing it right now, and it'll be able to get me, because I'm here in my front yard- and I don't have to wear a mask since I'm here, so it actually can tell that I am in the shot. There are other shots that I did with this when I was out at like the Huntington gardens and I had to have a mask on in the Huntington gardens, and I wasn't able to tell that I was in the frame, so everything had this glitch effect on it. Now that I have to return the phone to Samsung. This is the part that I will miss the almost any phone that finds a way of using the main cameras for way more uses, especially for things like vlogging. I will always love, but it's really just the Galaxy Z fold 2 that finds a way of making a screen available so that it's a little like having a pop-out screen on a mirrorless camera.

I mean we all know how important those are for our cameras. Everyone talks about articulating screens, and now we basically have one on a smartphone. You get most of the modes that are available if you use the rear cameras in the more conventional sense, but the missing one here is pro video mode. That's why I was saying earlier that it would be great to have pro video mode in more places that way we can do those Bluetooth, earphone audio recordings, and that would be awesome for things like vlogging. Ultimately, I was really happy with my experience with the cameras on the Galaxy Z fold too, and while I might have wished that there were some extras in here or maybe some overachieving features, I have to give Samsung a lot of credit for making sure the camera is on par.

That way, the rest of the phone can enhance it in some way, and if you were to ask me what kinds of cameras I would expect on like a high-end premium device just at the base level well for this particular device. I think it's actually proven that this is a great setup to start with now that Samsung are doing really well with the fold in general, perhaps they're going to update the cameras in the Galaxy Z, fold, 3 or whatever the upcoming follow up might be. This might not be the best overall camera across smartphones today, but if you get a little creative with the form factor of the galaxy's effort ii, you can get some pretty awesome results, but until then we are enjoying the Galaxy Z fold two and I have to tell you I'm going to miss this thing once I send it back. I do want to remind you that I'm going to do my final video on this, the top complaints and takeaways as per usual, so make sure to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already by the way shout out to my channel sponsor brand, and you can see that I have the marble skin on this uh mystic bronze, Galaxy Z fold two. I usually go for like one of the black skins, but this time I actually really liked how this turned out, because there's a little of a contrast here, and it doesn't take away from the mystic bronze lining when you have it opened up with that said, I'm going to go ahead and call it on this one.

Thank you so much for watching this video uh get into the comment sections down below. Let me know if you got your Galaxy Z fold to what your experience has been. I know that the pre-order should be coming in pretty much any time now and yeah at the very least drop some likes on this video and subscribe to my channel. If you haven't already to keep up with everything that I'm up to with all that said again I'll call it on this one take care of yourselves and each other and enjoy your tea. Everybody.
