Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs iPhone 12 Pro Max

Which one: should you get the galaxy s21 ultra or the iPhone 12 Pro max. I've been switching between these two phones in the past two weeks or so, and here are my thoughts on the best big phones around first, let's start talking about the design, because these two phones are big yet different. The galaxy s2100, which we have here is in the black matte version, and the iPhone here is in the gold, but also a matte finish and first having a matte finish on a phone that is so big means that it is extra slippery in the hand. So you have to be careful to handle these by the way, thanks to all key which makes some of the highest rated affordable wireless headphones for sponsoring this video, apart from the finish the design styling on both, looks great. We love the camera details on the galaxy and also the color on the iPhone looks nice. Now there are some differences in terms of how heavy they are.

The galaxy definitely feels heavy and not as well-balanced, especially the top part where the camera is. The phone feels very top-heavy, which is a bit surprising, especially if you're used to a regular phone. The galaxy, also having slightly curved edges, is a bit narrower than the iPhone and since it lacks those flat sides that you get on the iPhone, it's actually easier to grip with just one hand and hold on too tightly, while the iPhone, on the other hand, feels a bit too wide and those flat sides make it harder to grip in terms of display for a long time, Samsung has shown us that it has the most advanced displays, and this here screen on the galaxy s, 21 ultra is no exception. We have a 6.8 inch, AMOLED display on the galaxy and a slightly smaller 6.7-inch screen on the iPhone. Of course.

The main difference is that the one on the galaxy is slightly curved, while on the iPhone you get a flat display, but just purely in terms of colors and visuals. First, the galaxy gets way brighter. It gets to maximum brightness of 1500 nits, while the iPhone goes to 1200. So, in bright light outdoors, the galaxy is more visible, easier to see to read the text outdoors. Another advantage, the galaxy has is, of course, is slightly sharper with a 1440p resolution, and you can notice this.

If you look at the phone up close, it's not a huge difference, but there's a slight difference in favor of the galaxy. The big difference is the refresh rate. The galaxy supports 120 hertz adaptive, refresh rate that can go as low as 10 hertz. So when you're not actively scrolling, it goes to 10 hertz, which is more efficient for the battery, but when you're using it, you want to get that smooth scrolling effect. You get the full 120 hertz.

The iPhone, on the other hand, can only run at 60 hertz and that difference is particularly noticeable when you switch from the one to the other, maybe not so much if you're just used to a 60hz display, but definitely very noticeable. Otherwise, and of course, let's also mention the notch. The iPhone has that big notch, which right now is kind of hidden by that wallpaper, but once you start playing games or watching videos, it definitely gets in the way. While the galaxy has this very discreet, very tiny punch, hole, camera design that looks good and far less obstructive for video watching and gameplay and speaking of the notch, we have to also mention face ID, which is a great secure, face, recognition technology. The galaxy lacks that 3d face recognition.

It has regular image based face recognition, but the main way to unlock your galaxy would be via fingerprint scan and the galaxy features the newer second generation ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. That is we're happy to say much faster and much better to use than on previous galaxies. Okay, let's jump to the important stuff. The cameras filmmakers these days use cameras to differentiate their expensive phones and rationalize, a very expensive purchase, and the number one reason that makes this camera on the galaxy s21 ultra special is that lens right here, ten times, zoom periscope lens space zoom is back on the galaxy on the iPhone you just get merely 2.5 times, telephoto lens. So that's a huge difference in zoom quality, and we'll dive deeper into that just a little later.

But first, let's talk about the overall general quality of the images. Now the galaxy features 108 megapixel main camera sensor, but in reality it captures 12, megapixel images, so the file size stays reasonable and quality is very comparable between these two. The main difference would have to be in how wide the camera on the galaxy is. It's wider than most phones, that's 24, millimeter focal distance compared to 26 on the iPhone, and this results in slightly different captures. Now you notice you get first, the wider field of view, but images from the galaxy also appear slightly a bit brighter, usually, and I also noticed that whites on the galaxy appear true white, while on the iPhone you always get a slight bit of yellow tint in the whiter colors.

Apart from that images, look great during the day. Both captures photo that have slightly over saturated colors that look a little better than reality. But I guess that's a look that many people these days like and appreciate, and it's good for sharing on social media. So that's what you get on these two phones, both phones also ship with 12 megapixels, ultrawide sensors- that also capture very good-looking photos. Now you can also use these phones with their main cameras at night and in low light, and they both have automatic night modes.

You have that automatic night mode on the iPhone. You have the scene optimizer on the galaxy which kicks in when the light gets really dark. Now, take a look at a few sample photos taken in low light between these two phones and notice the difference in detail in color, which one do you prefer. Let me know in the comments, but the one area where the galaxy truly stands taller than the iPhone is with the zoom quality. Of course the 10x zoom periscope camera looks great.

It captures clean photos while images on the iPhone just lack the detail and are in no way comparable, big win for the galaxy here and apart from the cameras, the other big difference between these two phones is just the operating system they run on. Of course, the galaxy runs on the latest android 11 platforms, which is known for its great customization options. Now the iOS platform is a bit of a walled garden still, even though Apple has opened it up a bit, but it has its advantages and the biggest advantage of the iOS platform is just how often it gets updated. This iPhone will probably get updates for around five years since its release date, making it relevant in the very long term future, while the galaxy will probably get updates for around three years. We're talking about major android software updates three years versus five years.

That's quite a noticeable difference. Both these phones also support 5g connectivity, also supporting millimeter, wave 5g and basically, all sorts of 5g connectivity. You can think of. You have support on these two phones now again. Here there is the fine print.

The galaxy supports Wi-Fi 6e, which is the latest generation of Wi-Fi that provides much faster speeds. Of course, if your router and network support it, but also the galaxy, especially in the United States, lacks e-sim support which you do get on the iPhone. So it's a bit of a toss-up here: okay, if you're looking to buy a big phone like one of these two, you want that big battery and long battery life. So inside the galaxy s2102, you have a massive 5000 William hour battery, while the iPhone has a much more modestly sized around 3700 William hour battery. So this nearly 50 percent difference between these two and just the size of the capacity of their battery cell.

Does that mean that the galaxy has 50 percent better battery life? Well, not really, here, iOS optimizations come into play in a big way, but take a look at these tests. We have first run our web browsing test and the galaxy actually outscores the iPhone, just as you would expect, but not by a huge margin and on our YouTube test again, the galaxy came up victorious with a slightly higher score. Interestingly, we also tried the real world one hour non-stop, Call of Duty mobile playing it on both phones, and we actually found that on the galaxy for one hour you lost 15 battery life and on the iPhone you only lost 13, so that might not sound like a huge difference. But if you're gaming for a longer period of time we're seeing that the graphics performance on the iPhone is actually a little better and as for charging, both come without the charger in the box and that's a trend that apple started and Samsung very quickly adopted. But if you want to buy a separate charger, and you need one, you have a 20 watt, fast charger on the iPhone and a 25 watt fast charger on the galaxy.

Interestingly, Samsung has nix support for previously used 45 watt chargers, which used to be a little faster. So right now the top speed with the wire charge is 25 watts and in terms of real life charging speeds. The galaxy tops up fully from zero to 100 percent in slightly more than an hour about an hour and 10 minutes, and the iPhone takes an hour and 50 minutes, which is much longer. So we definitely appreciate having that faster charging speed on the galaxy. So, finally, we have reached pricing and, interestingly, the iPhone actually costs less than the galaxy, but that's only if you buy the base model, if you opt for the most specked out, 512 gigabyte versions, the rolls change places and the galaxy is actually a slight bit more affordable.

You can see the full pricing of these two phones right now on your screen and speaking of prices, I'm a big fan of getting the best phone available, even if it's a bit more expensive since you'll be using it for long years, but you can definitely save on what you get with it. If you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on truly wireless headphones, I've been using these minimalist truly wireless headphones by aura. They cost a fraction of the price of AirPods, and not only do they sound great for the price, but you get premium features like in-ear detection, so your music automatically pauses the moment. You take these out of your ear and ultra-low latency, so you don't feel any disconnect when watching videos or playing games. These tiny buds also come with a case that holds 30 hours worth of charge, and it also supports wireless charging.

So you don't have to go looking for a cable. You also get convenient gesture controls to skip songs and a surprisingly lightweight design and comfortable fit with a great sound for the price, and this nice minimalist design and black color make sure to check the video description to this video to find a special discount code for the best deal on these already affordable wireless headphones by all key and save even more so which one would you go for the galaxy or the iPhone for me personally. The galaxy offers that super versatile zoom camera that I have enjoyed using so much and the iPhone just cannot match it, especially at the moment. I also enjoyed the battery life on the galaxy which, in my experience, has been slightly a bit better than on the iPhone plus that 120hz super smooth refresh rate on the galaxy is definitely a big win on the iPhone side of things you get iOS going. I personally prefer the way iOS handles notifications.

Furthermore, I prefer the texting experience and some smaller detail in the iOS ecosystem. Furthermore, I also appreciate apple providing five years of software updates, but overall, both of these phones are great, especially if you want a big phone with a big battery life. Both of them deliver now get the galaxy. If you want that versatility in the camera and probably if you care about display quality as it's slightly superior, but if you value the iOS ecosystem, you text on messages and all that stuff, you're, probably better off, buying an iPhone at the end of the day. Both are great options, but do let me know which one would you prefer and why my name is Vic.
