Samsung Galaxy S21 & S21+ Initial Camera Impressions

What's up guys Justin here of FIFA tech- and this is just gonna- be a short follow-up, video to our Samsung, galaxy, s21 and s21 plus hands-on. During our brief time spent with the new devices, we were able to get a few photos, so, to recap, the s21 and s21 plus have the same camera specs for the rear. We get a triple setup, consisting of a 12 megapixel main a 12 megapixel, ultra ultrawide and a 64 megapixel three times telephoto lens. Meanwhile, for selfies we get a single 10, megapixel camera. Now on to the photos, starting with this photo of me, taken with the rear camera, we get a nice sort of flat, color profile here that will hold up well, once you start editing it after the fact. It's initially missing a bit of contrast and my skin tone isn't perfectly accurate, but it's an easy fix with a couple of adjustments.

What I'm really liking here, though, is the sharpness when washed up this photo hit tap to focus on the phones I'm holding and as you can see, we get some nice crisp details in this area. Next up is this photo of what we had for lunch on that day, and I'm liking how the camera handles the colors again. In the past, Samsung's camera AI was prone to over saturating when it detected food, but in this case they look pretty spot on now. With this shot, we wanted to really test out the sharpness of the telephoto lens and honestly, it has a bit of a soft quality to it, especially when you zoom in on this rock formation. However, it should be fine if you're, taking a shot of something that's actually far away next up, we're checking out portrait mode and how well it handles non-human subjects.

As you can see, it does pretty well. The focus is sharp on the toy, which is, of course, our main subject, and the depth of field falls off in a very natural way for the table surface and the object in the background. Here's portrait mode now on a human subject, and again it works pretty well as expected, but in this shot we also wanted to test out the dynamic range and, as you can see, neither the window nor josh's face are over or underexposed and mind you. It was quite bright outside at the time now, let's check out the ultra-wide camera. What I'm liking here isn't the shot itself, but the fact that the colors are pretty consistent, regardless of which lens you're using ultra-wide shots, are also reasonably sharp, though just like the first photo we looked at, it could use a bit of contrast and saturation boost for a more dynamic look alright.

So this is a shot of a plane taken with a telephoto lens, that's three times optical zoom, again a bit of a softer quality to it and here's what it looks like when you punch the digital zoom all the way in there's, nothing really remarkable in terms of quality, but if you need to zoom in all the way, this is how far you can expect to zoom in with the s21 and s21 plus, so that was our last rear. Camera photo and now we're checking out selfies. This one of jaws shows pretty good details as even his individual hair strands. Look reasonably sharp skin tones are also better compared to the rear camera, which is something we expect from a good front camera. Now, in this last selfie of me, we like how the exposure is spot on despite the window.

In the background, it was cloudy in this particular situation, so it isn't super indicative of good dynamic range. However, again both colors and details look very good. Lastly, I want to show you guys: Samsung's newest camera, feature called director's view, as I mentioned in the hands-on video. It's basically a mode that lets you shoot videos with both the front and rear camera simultaneously with the final output. Looking like a video call, you can also choose which rear camera is used, which is a nice touch and yeah we're looking forward to seeing what kind of creative uses people come up with for this feature and that about wraps it up for this video guys.

This was just a quick look at the s21 and s21 plus camera quality for a more full evaluation of these phone's cameras and all the other features for that matter do stay tuned for our full review.
