Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra VS Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Hey guys, what's up it's Andrew critics and in this video I'm going to be comparing the Samsung Galaxy note 20 ultra to the Samsung Galaxy note 9. Uh, so these are two of the flagship note devices back in their day, so the Galaxy Note 20 ultra 5g was just released and the Samsung Galaxy note 9 was released exactly two years ago, so this will be a very interesting comparison, seeing whether you should upgrade from your Galaxy Note 9 to the latest and greatest so without further ado. Let's go ahead and get straight on into this video. So with the Samsung Galaxy note, 20 ultra, it has shown off what it can do with the 5g. The fast refreshing displays and, most importantly, the powerful cameras- and this is all an effort to convince the Galaxy Note, 9 owners to upgrade their two-year-old phablet as the latest models are taking place as the new best Samsung phone. So the upgrade decision is not necessarily a clear-cut one uh, but in this video I'm just going to be going super in depth and telling you why you should upgrade- and this is basically coming from a note, 9 user perspective and also just showing off some highlights of the Samsung Galaxy note 20 ultra now.

The first thing that you're, probably thinking when you think about these two devices, would be the specs. So the specs in terms of the Galaxy Note 20 ultra and the Galaxy Note, 9 go as follows. So the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra, has a 6.9-inch screen, that's 3088 by 1444, and it's 120 hertz as well for the refresh rate. Now in terms of the Samsung Galaxy note 9 here on the right, the Samsung Galaxy note: 9 has a 6.4-inch screen that is 2960x1440. So, once again, 6.9-inch screen on the left versus a 6.4-inch screen on the right, and you can see it is noticeable because this is more of the bezel-less display on the left compared to more bezel at the top. So if we take a closer look right at the top here, you're going to notice that there is a less of the bezel at all.

So you just only have that uh small uh front facing camera on the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra versus the big bezel plus the camera, and everything like that. Now, if we do take a look at the bottom, you can see the difference between the bezel on both. So it's basically a very noticeable, and it's very thin on the left. Now, in terms of the insides of this phone, the CPU on the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra is a snapdragon 865 plus compared to a snapdragon 845. On the Galaxy Note 9.

Now in terms of ram, you have 12 gigabytes of ram uh compared to six gigabytes of ram. On the Galaxy Note 9. Now we can go ahead and do a speed test between the note 20 ultra and the Galaxy Note 9. So what we can do is just go ahead and press on zoom. At the same time, three two one and you can see that was a noticeable difference between the two.

So the note 20 ultra won that one now we can go ahead and try TikTok in three two one, and now I can see the difference between the two, and then you can go ahead and try prime video in three two ones. So you can notice the difference between the two and the note.20 ultra is winning that battle every time. So that gives you an idea of the speed between these two devices. Now, once again, the note 20 ultra is two years newer than the note 9. So this is something that you should expect and the note 9 wasn't that slow anyways, but it's just not as fast as the note 20 ultra 5g.

So you have double the ram on the note 20 ultra now in terms of storage, you get the same variant, so we have 128 gigabytes and 512 gigabytes for both of these phones. Now it does have a micro SD on both. So that's definitely good to see, and the big difference comes with the rear cameras. So when we take a look at the rear cameras, you're going to notice, there's actually three cameras on the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra compared to only two cameras on the Galaxy Note 9. So the cameras on the note 20 ultra have the specs of 108 megapixels for the main camera 12 megapixels for the telephoto camera and 12 megapixels for the ultra-wide camera, including laser focus sensors.

So you can see that laser focus sensor with that red dot. Now, on the Galaxy Note 9, you have only two cameras, and they are both 12 megapixels. So dual 12 megapixel cameras. Now when we look at the front camera on both uh the front camera. On the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra is 10 megapixels compared to 8 megapixels on the note 9.

Now another important feature when it comes to your phone would have to be the battery life. If you have the best phone in the world, but it doesn't have good battery life that will ruin the phone and be the kryptonite for the phone, and you won't want to use it at all. Now, when it comes to the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra it's a 4 500 William hour battery and on the Galaxy Note, 9 is 4 000 William hour battery. So there is a bigger battery to power. The bigger screen and overall device of the Galaxy Note 20 ultra now in terms of the size.

This note 20 ultra is 6.48 by 3.04 and 0.32 inches. Now, on the note 9, it is 6.3 by 3 by 0.34 inches. So you can see that this is clearly a smaller phone compared to the Galaxy Note 20 ultra now in terms of weight uh, the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra weighs 7.33 ounces versus 7.1 ounces. So this note 9 is clearly lighter than the note 20 ultra now when it comes to pricing on both these devices. If you had bought the Galaxy Note 9, when the phone was first debuted in 2018, you would have paid 999 dollars for a six gigabyte ram model with 128 gigabytes of storage, so your phone would just be paid off by now.

If you bought that phone on an installment plan. Now the note 20 ultra costs 12.99 for the phone with 128 gigabytes of storage, so for the overall price of the note, 20 ultra you're, looking at a phone, that's 12.99 with 128 gigabytes of storage, and if you want the 512 gigabyte model of the note 20 ultra, that will set you back 1449. So, with the Galaxy Note, 20 ultra being available right now, Samsung is offering 500 off its new flagships with a trade-in value of an eligible device. So the manufacturer also offers a special financing option for both phones. For these cheaper note, 20 customers can pay 25 a month for 20 months, totaling 500, and if the phone remains in good condition after that point, Samsung will buy the device back for which it is still owed on it, essentially allowing you to only pay 500 for the phone for less than a two-year term.

Now, in terms of the overall design of the note 20 ultra, it's definitely a unique one. I really do like the three cameras on the back, but there is a noticeable camera bump on the back. If you take a close look, so you can see it is present, and it isn't as thin as you would think, and it really does protrude from the back of the overall note 20. Now the overall screen size is a dynamic AMOLED display. That is just basically edge to edge, and I really do like that part of the phone uh.

It just really takes advantage of every little of the device and uses the screen real estate to the best of its advantage. So that's why I definitely do like the overall screen size and the overall design. Now this may surprise you, but the note 20 ultra actually features a plastic body, albeit it's one that is designed to look and feel like glass. So that is the main difference. So it just isn't actually a glass, but it does feel like it, and it is an illusion that might hold up at first glance, but once you use the note 20 ultra on a regular basis, and then you'll likely notice, it's not built from the same materials as the note 9.

So, in other words, just the note 20 ultra is just made out of plastic, and it is made to look like glass, but it's really not now. The note 20 feels like a step back from the note 9 in another way, Samsung's older phones boast a resolution of 2960x1440, but the note9 makes do with a full HD resolution. Now the note 20 ultra sports a sharper screen with quad HD resolution. Now the note 20 ultra screens also boasts a dynamic 120hz, refresh rate that adjusts, depending on what kind of activity you're doing with your phone. Now.

This is a much faster refresh rate than the Galaxy Note.9, so scrolling won't be as smooth on the note.9 and supported games won't be as immersive. So then and again, this is a reason to get the note 20 ultra just because of how good this actual screen is. Now, once again, the note 20 ultra has that punch hole, cut out to house the front camera which allows Samsung to shrink the best, whereas the Galaxy Note, 9 Samsung, switch to infinity old display, so you'll see a noticeable bezel at the top, and also right at the bottom here, so you're going to see that there are two big bezels right there and the note 9 also does feature a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone instead of embedding the sensor underneath the display, as they did with the note 20 ultra. So you can see that there's a fingerprint sensor right on the back of the note 9. Now the note 20 ultra reaches a peak of 662 nits and can render 201 of RGB spectrum in its default vivid configuration and the note 9 has 604 nits and achieves 224 versus 201 percent on the RGB spectrum uh.

So the latter figure is higher, so the latter is higher. So the note 9 has a higher uh 224 percent RGB spectrum, but uh the note 9 hues are comparatively less accurate compared to the note 20 ultra with the older phone, achieving a delta e score of 0.34 compared to your know, 20 ultras 0.24 results, so the numbers that are closer to 0 are better. So the note 20 ultra is at 0.24 for the delta e and the note 9 is that is 0.34 for the delta e. Now just going head-to-head with the design of both these devices. I really do like the design of the note 20 ultra, not just because it's new just because it's more sleek- and I really do like that- you finally have three cameras that are really uh the pinnacle of this device.

Now it is a nice slab of plastic, but it does look like glass, but just the note, 20 ultra feels better in the hand than this note 9. I must say so. You can see that there's a difference between the two and just feel a lot more bezel, and you feel a lot more of the sides rather than this nice curved piece of device. So do you remember when cameras on the back of the phone was the height of its luxury? Well, if you're still using the note 9, you surely do as the handset uses 12 megapixel cameras to handle mobile photography, but things have gotten more sophisticated with the new Galaxy Note, 20 ultra. As the note 20 ultra offers a trio of camera sensors on the back, compared to only two cameras on the note 9.

The note 20 ultra has the more elaborate camera array. It has a 108, megapixel main camera right at the top, and then it has a 12 megapixel telephoto lens and a 12 megapixel ultra-wide camera, and it has the ability to support five times optical zoom on that telephoto lens, and it also has a 50 times zoom, and it has a laser autofocus which should improve the phone's ability to quickly focus on shots. Now the note 20s camera specs are reminiscent of what Samsung offered with the galaxy s20 phones, but for note, 9 users. This will be a big upgrade in what their phone can shoot, because the note 9 only has two 12 megapixel cameras, uh, and you'll notice, a huge difference when you take a look at both these cameras side by side now going into the camera on both these devices. Here we can see the difference between the two, so you can see that they both have two different layouts.

So on the note 9 means you have everything at the top, so you have panorama pro live, focus, auto super slo-mo ar emoji and then hyperlapse. So you have all those different features right there, and then you're going to see that you have uh three different camerae. So you can see you have the wide angle, the normal camera, and then you have the zoom camera. So you can see you have all those different uh views, and we can go all up to 50 x for zoom, so at 50x, 20x, 10x, 4 times 2 times, 1 and then 0.5 times. So you have all those options: now we can press on the settings, and then you can see that you have all these different options here, so we can actually choose which uh video size, so we can go all the way up to 4k right there, and we can go all the way up to actually 8k for the rear video.

So that's simply incredible, so we can shoot 8k with the note 20 ultra now. If we do go to the settings on here, we can shoot all the way up to uh 12 megapixels for both the camera size. So both cameras on this are 12 megapixels and then for the video size. You can go all the way up to 4k, so we don't have 8k at all, and then we have all these different video modes on the note9. So that gives you an idea of the camera and just the note20 ultra's camera is just leaps and bounds, uh better than the note9, and it's just clear as day now on the front of both these devices, you have the front facing camera.

As so, the note 20 ultra has a 10 megapixel, uh selfie cam, and then the note 9 has an 8 megapixel selfie camera. Both these devices have some perfect processors, so they both have a snapdragon processor uh made by Qualcomm uh. But the note 9 has the snapdragon 845 processors and the Galaxy Note.20 ultra has the snapdragon 865 plus uh processors. So overall, when you compare the two of them you're going to see how fast that the note 20 ultra is there's going to be less lag, you're going to notice a very stable performance and can heavily rely on that new snapdragon 865 processors, and if you do plan to upgrade from the Galaxy Note 9 to the note, 20 ultra you'll notice a lot of processing power on the note 20 ultra now. Another good reason for the note 20 ultra is that you do get 5g on this device and the note 9 does not have 5g.

So the snapdragon 865 plus ships with a 5g capable modem and the note 20 ultra, is very fast with the 5g so expect faster data speeds. If you live in an area with 5g coverage now, if you have a note 9, you will have more restrictive storage, because note, 20 ultra has the ability to expand all the way up to one terabyte compared to only 512 gigabytes, compared to only 512 gigabytes. On the note 9. Now, in terms of the s pen, the note 9 saw some of the most significant changes to the s pen, which came with Samsung's phablet. They added Bluetooth connectivity to the stylus.

With the note 9. They also enabled note users to turn the s pen into a remote control that could snap pictures, run, presentation and control music playback and then the subsequent s, pen updates added support for more air gestures. So you can see that there's a bevy of features with this s pen, once again, the s pen was yellow and the color was blue for the note 9. So there's more colors a few years back in the note, whereas the s pen, on the note 20, is actually on the left side instead of the right side. But taking a look at it, you have some more features, which include the anywhere actions.

Will let you use the stylus to return to the home screen, take a screenshot and go back to the recent app among other commands. There are more significant changes to the s pen, it's more responsive. The note 20 ultra also reaps the biggest gain where there's a latency of just nine milliseconds, so uh that is just even faster response than the actual note 20, which is 26, milliseconds latency and that's an improvement of 40 compared to last year's galaxy. Note 10. Now.

Some more features include that, with the note 20, you can now highlight written and typed notes with the s pen to append all your recordings, a feature that we imagine will extremely be handy in meeting or lectures. And now this feature is actually eventually going to come to the note 10 in a software update, there's no word whether it will uh make it back to as far as the note 9. So, in addition, although it does not pertain strictly to the s pen, the note 20 also adds wireless support for DEX mode via Miracast. So that is huge. So that means you don't need a cable or dock to connect to an external display to use your phone in a more desktop style context, as you do with the note 9.

In terms of the battery on both these devices. The note 9 featured a 4 000 William hour battery that allowed it to last a very long time on a charge and the note 20 ultra has bigger battery of 4 500 William hours, but the problem with the battery is that, even though that you have a bigger battery, the new note, 20 ultra has a larger display, with faster refresh rates and 5g connectivity and higher peak clock speed. So that will make the note 9 battery actually last longer because it doesn't have 5g doesn't have a bigger screen, doesn't have all the latest and greatest features so uh. It will actually last 11 hours and 26 minutes compared to 10 hours and 26 minutes on the actual note 20 ultra. So you get an hour longer a battery life.

With that note, 9. Now, in conclusion, two years is basically like 10 years in the world of smartphone. So the note 20 ultra has some obvious improvements compared to the note the new note, 20 ultra has a faster processor, more cameras, bigger battery, a larger display and, with the note 20 ultra, you even get a faster refresh rate and a more immersive experience. Now, if your note 9 is beginning to feel as if it's overstayed, it's welcome performing slower and uh lasting fewer hours between charges. It is definitely worth considering replacing it and getting the new note 20 ultra, especially if you can save on a trade-in offer, but even then there's still a decision to be made, because the note 20 ultra may seem like a step back from the note 9, because it has that plastic build, but it still has some more powerful internals and overall, it is very well-rounded.

Now, once again, you know, 20 ultra does have some substantial improvements, and it feels like a true generational leap over the note 9, but it does carry a steep price too. So, ultimately, it comes down to what you're really looking for in an upgrade and if you have enough cash to part uh with the note 9 in order to get the note 20 ultra. So, in my honest opinion I would say it's definitely worth the upgrade if you are coming from a note, 9, and I give it two thumbs up on an upgrade for the latest and greatest note 20 ultra 5g. So thanks for watching this video on the comparison between these two phones on an ultimate phablet showdown video. Hopefully you thoroughly enjoyed this video.
