Samsung Galaxy M31 vs A71 Comparison! Which One Should You Buy?

What's going on guys, my name is Wade with tech daily and in this video we'll be doing a full comparison between the Samsung Galaxy m31 and the Samsung Galaxy a 71. Now, unlike my last comparison, where we have the m31 and the 851, which were very similar phones, this 71 offers some significant differences over the m31 beyond just a much higher price tag and while I don't necessarily consider these phones to be a direct competition for one another. The comparison here might be necessary in showcasing the value offered by the m31 or the potential benefits of paying more for the 71 I'm going to go over everything you need to know about each of these phones in this video and in the end, I do hope that it helps you make an informed purchase decision if you happen to be in the market for a new device. So first things. First, let's talk about pricing and availability. The m31 was basically just released a couple of weeks ago, and it has a retail price of anywhere between 200 and 250 bucks, depending on the model you go with and where, in the world you're located, the 71, on the other hand, is a significantly higher priced phone.

Although it was released a few months ago, it's only come down a little from its retail price, and I've, seen it as low as around 390 dollars from places like Amazon, but everywhere else. It starts at 400 bucks and goes up from there either way you look at it, though you could potentially be paying up to twice as much for the 71 or for the m31. So with that big of a price difference, there's obviously a lot more to consider physically, while these phones don't necessarily look all that similar we're actually dealing with some pretty close figures. The m31 is a six point. Four inch device and the 71 is a larger six point: seven inch phone.

It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but in the hand the 71 is, of course, quite a bit taller than the m31, which means that if you have smaller hands or have a tough time reaching those far corners with one-handed use, you might be better off going with the m31. Instead, it's really that height, that's the main difference. The m31 is just a tiny bit wider than the 71. Interestingly enough, actually quite a bit thicker too there are two factors going on there with the m31 has a huge battery inside which contributes to its thickness. But the a71 also has these slimmer, tapered edges that make the phone feel thinner on the sides again.

This isn't as impactful as the screen size and overall height, but just something I thought I'd mention as far as the materials with each of these phones you're, getting a cheaper all plastic build, no matter which way you go now with the 71 you do get a polished mirrored frame and that shiny rainbow finish coming off a subtle design on the back. So it might look nicer or maybe more premium, but it's still just hard plastic. The m31 has a uniform design and finish with no fancy accents, but all in all, I think the finish is gonna, come down to personal preference, there's no premium material going with the more expensive a 71, and you don't get stuck with any cheap junk going with the m31. It's all the same, taking a look around and everything else like most Samsung phones. These devices are set up the same with the SD and SIM card tray on the left and the volume and power buttons positioned along the right.

Underneath both phones have the same single speaker, headphone jack and a USB-C charging port around back you'll see the camera modules which I'll talk about towards the end and also a physical fingerprint sensor on the m31 as well. Now the 71 has its own fingerprint sensor under the display and once again, I think this is just a matter of personal preference as to which you prefer I like the m31 here. The physical sensor is easy to reach and seems a bit quicker and more accurate, though I generally prefer to just unlock using facial recognition, which is the exact same on both devices as far as I could tell so, in addition to the size of the displays. The other thing you might immediately notice is the fact that both of these phones offer different designs. The m31 sort of has last year set up, but the infinity U teardrop notch, while the 71 has the Infinity Oh hole, punch, cutout, all the way around the 71 also has much slimmer bezels than the m31, particularly across the bottom, where the m31 has a very prominent chin.

This refresh design allows you to have more screen real estate, packed inside the more packed and streamlined form-factor of the a71, and that contributes to the fact that, while there's a third of an inch difference in screen size, there's only a small difference in actual phone body size aside from the size and the bezels, the actual displays themselves seem to be identical: they're, both Super AMOLED panels, with the 71 getting the plus distinction, and they're covered in Gorilla Glass 3 they're, both 1080p screens, though, with the varying screen sizes. We have a 1080 by 2340 resolution on the m31 and a 1080 by 2400 resolution on the 71. The difference in pixel density is pretty unimportant and all in all, I think both of these displays look pretty much identical in their clarity, color and brightness they're, both fantastic displays for their price points and offer an excellent viewing experience, though seeing the same stuff on the much cheaper, m31 I think makes it more impressive. Like I talked about earlier, though, I think the Refresh design, with the slim bezels and camera cutout, make the viewing experience a little nicer on the 71. But if you can ignore the look of the m31, or maybe it doesn't bother you and focus strictly on the display technology, I think you're getting a perfect deal.

All things considered, and I'm surprised that Samsung didn't do more to differentiate the display on the 71 from some of its less expensive devices. As far as the listening experience goes, both phones offer just the one single downward firing external speaker, which is good enough for out loud content, viewing and gaming, but it doesn't match the stereo sound of flagship devices and once again, given the price of the 71 in particular I'm surprised, Samsung didn't choose to beef up the audio for this phone powering. These devices are some pretty solid batteries, but, as you guys know, the m31 retains a significant Vantage. This phone packs a massive six thousand million capacity battery, while the 71 comes in at 4500 that size difference means that, while the 71 is still solid and can last a full day, the m31 has the potential to go up to two days on a single charge and that's one of the biggest things that separates the m-series phones from the a-series phones. The m31 is just an absolute powerhouse for the price when it comes to battery life, and it's really tough for a lot of other devices to compete.

However, if charging speed is a concern for you, you might be interested to know that, while the m31 supports the 15 watt charging standard, the 71 gets. These superfast 25 watt adapter. So you sort of have to weigh whether staying off the charger completely for longer is important to you or, if being able to charge quite a bit more quickly makes more sense inside each of these phones pack, some really solid specs, though the advantage in this case goes to the 71. This phone offers the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chip, the Arena, 618 GPU, and either six or eight gigs of ram the m31, on the other hand, packed Samsung's own Enos, 96 11, the Mali g72 GPU, and it has just one choice of six gigs of ram. Now we are basically getting the same software experience here with both phones, Android 10 and 1 UI 2, but like I just mentioned, I, think the advantage here falls in favor of the 71 for two reasons in particular.

Well, it may not seem like much the 71 more often than not is going to be the faster phone when it comes to doing everyday tasks. Apps tend to launch and load just a bit faster, though the m31 still does a nice job. Looking ahead for the long term, though, I think the hardware inside the 71 is a better investment for two or three years down the line, for example, that's where you're getting the most value out of those bumped up specs and of course, if you are a gamer or really like to push your phone hard, the 71 is your choice. Here too, but I wouldn't shy away from the m31 solely based on performance alone, because obviously the 71 isn't twice as good as the m31, so paying twice as much more might not necessarily make the most amount of sense when it comes to specifically looking at performance in regard to their camera. Setups we've actually got a fascinating matchup here now, unfortunately, I can't say for certain, but it appears we might be working with the same main lenses at least spec wise.

They each have a 64 megapixel, F 1.8 main shooter with the same sensor, size and features. They also have the same macro lens and same depth. Sensing lens as well. The only actual difference in spec from what I could see is, with the ultra-wide shooter. The m31 has an eight megapixel lens.

Well, the 71 has a 12 megapixel lens camera. Specs aren't everything though, and one of the contributing factors to the picture-taking abilities actually has to do with how each of these phones can process the images. The 71, of course, like I, said, has the advantage here, since it has better internal specs and may potentially be able to do more with an image now, just like in all my other comparisons. I will have a dedicated video that includes a bunch of picture and video samples to critique and compare so look out for that separate video in the next day or so, and we can really start to talk about the differences but at least on paper, while the 71 may have a slight advantage potential. The winner here isn't to clear the front-facing selfie cameras, while also technically having the same specs appear to produce different images as well.

They're, both 32 megapixels shooters, the 71 s, has an F 2.2 aperture, while the m31 s is an F 2.0, again check out my full camera comparison with side-by-side picture samples. So you can see the differences for yourself, but I think what we're working here might be just a personal preference as to which pictures you think look best to you a few last things to consider. Neither of these films offer wireless charging and they both also don't have any water or dust rating either and those things mainly you just have to do with the fact that they are cheaper plastic, build phones. If those things are important to you, you'll have to pick some other devices. So here are my final thoughts.

It's no secret that I, like the m31 I, think it's a great value phone at this price point, particularly when it comes to that crazy battery, the great camera capabilities and the fantastic looking display. The 71 gets good enough battery life, the same camera setup, basically, the same display only a bit bigger and refreshed, and a more premium looking design and while I have recommended the 71 in my previous reviews and I still consider it a good phone at a good value. It's just super tough to justify that price tag, particularly when it's stacked up against a device like this. The 71 is a great phone and the internal specs mean probably a better long-term investment with more potential, but it's tough to get over the value offered by the m31, and in this case it might just be the winner here. So there you go.

That's everything you need to know about the Samsung, galaxy m31 and 71 devices. Let me know which phone you preferred in the comments down below I'd love to know your thoughts of course, and let me know if I happen to miss anything important too, but hopefully you guys did enjoy this video be sure to follow tech daily on Twitter and subscribe to the tech daily YouTube channel.
