Samsung Galaxy A12 Review - 12 Weeks Later!

What's going on everyone, this is Kevin here coming at you with my Samsung Galaxy a12 review. So let's get started. So this is the Samsung Galaxy a12. This is one of the newest budget options from Samsung, and technically it is the successor to last year's Samsung Galaxy a11. Now, we've already compared this phone versus that phone in great detail in another video here in the channel, so definitely make sure to check that out now to see the most up-to-date pricing for the Samsung Galaxy a12 definitely take a look at the links in the video description. This phone is being offered at a variety of different carriers, and they're all offering their various promotions and discounts, but also this phone is available directly from Samsung's website.

So there are multiple ways to acquire this phone. In addition to that, this device is also being offered all around the world, so it is a global device and in different regions this phone sometimes has extra storage and extra ram. So just to make it clear. The US variant of the Samsung Galaxy a12 has 32 gigabytes of storage and three gigabytes of ram, but there's also another variant being offered globally, that has 64 gigabytes of internal storage and four gigabytes of ram. So just keep that in mind now, obviously, having less storage isn't going to have an impact on the performance of the phone, but the ram does make a little of a difference.

And while I wish the US variant of the phone had four gigs of ram instead of three, it's not the biggest difference, it's just a slight difference, and even though the US variant of the galaxy a12 has three gigabytes of ram compared to four internationally, I feel like those differences are justified, though, considering that the US variant of the galaxy a12 is being offered at a very affordable level. So, even though there are some compromises with the US variant of the galaxy a12, I feel like it does make sense, because they are offering some perfect promotions on the phone. Now, with the Samsung Galaxy a12 we're getting a 6.5 inch display, so a pretty large display here for a budget device. The display itself is pls, IPS LCD. It's a 720p display with a PPI of 264.

We're getting an aspect, ratio of 20x9, so a more narrow but taller form factor, and we're getting a screen to body ratio of 85.5 percent. So we do have a water drop notch up top here and a little of a thicker bottom bezel, but in general I feel, like the phone does have a decently modern and good-looking design. Now in that notch, up top here, we are getting an 8, megapixel, front-facing camera and stay tuned for later on in the video as I'll be showing you a variety of different photo and video samples from the actual phone itself and again in the US, with the galaxy a12 you're going to be getting 32 gigabytes of internal storage. But in other markets you might be getting 64 gigabytes of internal storage, but thankfully, no matter which variant of the phone you end up. Getting this device does feature micros card expansion.

Now, there's no wireless charging with the Samsung Galaxy a12, but we do get a fingerprint sensor on the side of the phone, and I'm actually a big fan of that placement, so we'll give that a try right now, so that was very quick one more time, so that was very fast and in general, I'm a huge fan of having the fingerprint sensor be on the power button, because that's typically, where you put your finger anyway to turn on the display. So it really does make a lot of sense having it be right here now, in addition to having the fingerprint sensor, this phone also features facial recognition. So there are multiple methods for getting into the phone. Now with this device, we do have a quad camera setup on the back of the phone, which is something that's not too common for phones in this price range, but with the galaxy a12 we're getting a 48 megapixel main camera, a 5 megapixel ultra-wide angle, camera a 2, megapixel depth, sensing camera for portrait mode, and we're getting a 2 megapixel macro camera for close-up images. Now this device does support portrait mode for both the rear and front cameras.

So I'm definitely a big fan of that. Now. Here's how things look on the camera app on the device. This is through the main camera lens right now then, from here we can switch over to the ultra-wide angle, camera to fit a lot more content into the frame. I do use that quite a bit personally, and then we can switch over to the ultra-wide angle, camera to fit a lot more content into the frame.

I'm definitely a big fan of that feature. We can also go over to the more tab to access the macro camera to get those close-up images in great detail. We can also then switch over to the live focus portrait mode, and then we can flip around to the front-facing camera as well and get those nice blurred out backgrounds or, if you want to you, can just take a standard selfie as well. So I really like that we get so many options and abilities here when it comes to the various cameras and the camera app on the Samsung Galaxy a12, and in addition to that, we already have a dedicated camera tips and tricks video regarding this phone here in the channel. So if you really want to get the most out of the cameras on this device, then I definitely recommend taking a look at that video now, as mentioned at the beginning of this video, this phone is offered in both three and four gigabytes of ram and the processor that we're getting with all variants of the galaxy a12 is the MediaTek hello p35 processor.

Now that processor is actually the same processor that comes in the lg, style 6. , not sure, if you're familiar with that phone or not, but I have covered that phone already here on the channel quite a bit. So if you do currently have a style 6, then the galaxy a12 probably will be very familiar to you as far as performance goes because it is the same exact processor. Now I did run a geek bench 5 benchmark test here with the phone. I got a single core score of 169 and a multi-core score of 965.

So what I recommend doing is running this test on your current phone and then compare your scores to these scores. To get a better idea of whether the Samsung Galaxy a12 is gonna, be a performance upgrade for you now, with this device, video recording does max out at 1080p, with both the front and rear cameras. So keep that in mind we're getting a very large 5, 000 William hour internal battery with the galaxy a12, which is really awesome, and it does feature compatibility with 15 watt fast charging so definitely expect to get some really impressive battery life with this device, as you do use it, considering that we are getting such a large battery with it. Now at the time of me, recording this video, the software with the Samsung Galaxy a12 is android 10 running Samsung's, one UI skin. Now, technically, all the series phones launched this year will be getting future android updates, so this phone definitely will be getting android 10 at some point, I'm not sure when, but I definitely hope it happens soon.

But regardless, though, if you are familiar with using other Samsung phones in the past, then you're probably going to feel right at home here with the galaxy a12, considering that it does have the typical user interface that you'd come to expect with pretty much any Samsung device and from my experience of using the phone it has run decently. Well, of course, this phone is nowhere near as fast as the Samsung Galaxy s21 ultra, but that phone is over a thousand dollars, so you are gonna, be spending a fraction of that on the a12. So you should expect a fraction of the performance as well, but I would say in general, if you're looking for a phone, that's good for phone calls text messages and some light web browsing and social media usage. Then this phone definitely will get the job done for you. But if you are someone that spends quite a bit of time on your phone, then you might end up noticing that this phone is a little on the slower side.

So again, it just depends on what you do exactly on your device and how much time you spend on it for whether you're going to need something. That's a bit more powerful. Now, thankfully, Samsung has a variety of different options in there a series: lineup such as the a32 5g, and also the a52 5g. So there are plenty of other options if you do want something, a bit more powerful, and thankfully we've already done quite a few comparisons of all the various Samsung, a series phones that have launched this year. So I definitely recommend checking that out after you're done watching this video.

But taking a closer look at the hardware here of the device. Again, we do have that water drop notch up top. I do wish, though, that they did do a hole punch for the front-facing camera instead of a notch kind of similar to last year's galaxy a11. But I suppose this does get the job done, but it's definitely not the most modern or groundbreaking design that I've seen lately. But then again, if you're looking for a phone that has a practical usable form and layout, then you likely will be satisfied with the a12.

Now taking a look on the left side of the phone, we have just the slot for the micro SD card and sim card, then on the right side of the device we have volume up volume down and then that power button. That's also the fingerprint sensor, then up top here we have the noise-cancelling microphone and then on the bottom of the phone. We have the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack. We have the microphone USB c port for charging and data transfer, and we have the speaker and by the way, with this phone there is no stereo audio. Furthermore, we just have audio coming out of the one speaker on the bottom, with some other devices, especially phones that are more premium.

Furthermore, we get audio that comes out of both the earpiece and the main speaker when doing anything on the phone, whether that's watching video content or listening to music. Obviously, the earpiece is still used for phone calls, but that is the extent of how often the earpiece is actually used. So keep that in mind, but on the other hand, the single speaker that we do have here with the a12 still does do a good job. So if you do want to get this phone to watch video content or listen to music, then at least, if you're- just sitting by yourself in a room- that's relatively quiet- the phone will be good enough, but taking a look at the back side of the device, it is pretty simple. With the Samsung logo, we have kind of a cool diagonal, linear design.

Here in the back of the phone, we have the camera module, and then we have the quad camera setup, one of the benefits of having a plastic back on a phone such as this. One, though, is that it is going to make it a bit more durable if you happen to drop it now. Of course, I would recommend getting a case to use with the phone to keep you even more protected, but I suppose, if you did have glass in the back of the phone, it would make it even more susceptible to potential damages. Now, in general, I've actually been pretty impressed with the photo and video quality from the Samsung Galaxy a12. Now, obviously, since this is not a high-end device, I have kept my expectations in check prior to taking photos and videos with this phone, but again for what it is.

I feel like it definitely gets the job done. You can take pictures and videos with this device that are completely usable and get the job done. So if you don't necessarily need the latest and greatest mobile photography technology, then the a12 will get the job done for you, but I'll. Definitely let the photo and video quality speak for itself, but let's now switch over to some video samples what's going on everyone, this is Kevin here coming at you with a 1080p front-facing test video using the Samsung Galaxy a12. Let me know what you think of both the audio and video quality and here's a 1080p test, video using the main camera on the Samsung Galaxy a12, definitely a bright day outside today, nice, quick autofocus in video mode and here's a 1080p ultra-wide angle, video with the Samsung Galaxy a12.

It's a pretty nice feature because you can fit a lot more content into the frame in general. The web browsing experience here with the galaxy a12 is perfect for multiple reasons. The first thing is the phone does perform decently. Well, you can see that I can scroll through pretty smoothly here, but in addition to that, thanks to it having that kind of more narrow but taller form factor, you are able to fit more of a web page into one frame here compared to a phone that might have a more traditional design where the display is shorter, you'll technically have to scroll more because you won't be able to fit quite as much of a web page into a single frame here so due to that that does make the phone perfect for reading text. So if you do like to read e-books on your phone, for example, the a12 is a good device for doing that, but also in general.

Even though this display is not AMOLED here, things do look nice. I mean it's decently crisp and clear, even though it's not 1080p, and it's 720p. So in general, the display on this phone is perfectly usable for a variety of different tasks, and I am glad that they did go with that larger 6.5 inch form factor, especially since more and more often we're spending less and less time doing phone calls. But instead interacting with applications and doing other things where having a larger display does come in handy they've, really taken it to the next level. Now, with the Samsung Galaxy, s21 ultra we're getting 12.

So, as I mentioned earlier on in this video, the galaxy a12 is a good device for watching video content. The speaker gets decently loud here, and you're really getting a large picture here. That comes in handy for video content. Now you are able to crop in if you want to fill up the entire display for a more immersive experience or not whatever you prefer. But again, if you want to sit back, relax and watch a YouTube video, for example, on this phone, then it definitely will get the job done for that.

So, in conclusion, is the Samsung Galaxy a12 worth buying. I do feel like it is a perfect budget device from Samsung. Now again, you have to keep your expectations in line considering this phone is very affordable, and many carriers are going to be offering it for free if you're, switching in from another carrier. So I definitely wouldn't spend too much money on this phone, but if you are able to get it for 200 or less, then I feel like it is a solid deal again. All the various carriers are always running different promotions on this device.

So I highly doubt that most people that end up getting it are going to be paying the full MSRP for it. But I hope you enjoyed my Samsung Galaxy a12 review if you like, the video, give it a thumbs up and again to learn more about this phone. Take a look at the links in the video description, but I hope you have a great day and enjoy the video, and I'll see you in the next one.
