Subtitled by Paulo Montenegro - @pmontenegroreal (Twitter) The Redmi Note 9T was launched as the cheap 5G cell phone from Xiaomi subsidiaries but is it even superior or newer Redmi Note 10? Is the fast connection worth more than having the greatest autonomy? This is what we will see from now on in the TudoCelular comparison. In the design we have already started with two very different phones, the Redmi Note 9T has a body that resembles a Poco X3 mainly because of the cameras in a circle on the back. The Redmi Note 10 brought a new layout to the rear sensors to highlight the main lens. This one also adopted a punch-hole notch centered on the screen, smaller than previous generations while the older one prefers to position the front camera in the left corner. But both also have their similarities – the devices feature an all-plastic finish as well as a biometric reader located on the power button on the side of the body. They deliver tray with 2 SIM cards and 1 Micro SD slot without having to choose between the 2nd SIM or the expansion.
We also have two sides with infrared sensor so you can use your smartphone as a remote control for your TV. The Note 10 even has IP53 for splash protection and is more compact and lighter. By arriving with the original look for the time, the recent Redmi comes out ahead of this duel. On one side we have an IPS LCD panel from the Note 9T and on the other a Super AMOLED from the Note 10. Both offer a refresh rate of only 60 Hz, which may disappoint gamers.
The first one has the advantage of being a little bigger and having a superior frontal use in addition to Gorilla Glass 5 protection against the third generation in the newest one – at least the recent Redmi's Amoled screen achieves better image quality with high brightness and more vibrant colors. In other words, you will more comfortably use the Note 10 in sunny environments and to watch video not to mention the presence of HDR on YouTube. The AMOLED panel makes the difference on screen and gives the newest Redmi a point. Xiaomi proves with these two models that audio is one of its priorities, even in the mid-rangers. Both arrive with stereo sound by putting the call speaker as the secondary channel.
The duo's power is good but the maximum volume generates some distortion. The balance pleases both sides, but the Note 10 reproduces better bass, mids and highs than the others of the brand. A downside of the North 9T is the reduced size of the speakers. The result is a more muffled audio than the rival of this comparison and even others in the same segment. At least, here we have a physical headphone jack on the devices in case you prefer to enjoy your music or watch movies in a more private way – but the accessory doesn't come in the boxes.
For presenting the best quality, the Redmi Note 10 scores another point. Cell phones come out of the box with MIUI 12 but different OS versions. The Note 10 is already based on Android 11 while 9T is still on 10. The interface mainly lacks fluidity and when it comes to holding apps in the background in both Redmi models. At least the dark mode of the newest collaborates to have more battery due to the presence of the Amoled screen.
The Chinese manufacturer has guaranteed at least two major software updates on its smartphones which means more longevity for the Redmi Note 10 but in favor of the 9T is the support for 5G connectivity, which already sets the stage for when we have the most popular technology in the Brazil. More up-to-date system versus fifth-generation network support: we give system a tie. In performance we have a duel between Mediatek and Qualcomm. On the Note 9T side, the platform is the Dimensity 800U, which is compatible with the more affordable 5G, while the Note 10 has the intermediate Snapdragon 678 chip. In our speed tests, both showed a difficulty in multitasking and had a longer time in second round – this shows that the problem lies more in the lack of MIUI optimization as we mentioned earlier.
Overall, the 9T still managed to be about 22 seconds faster. Those who like to flaunt high benchmarks will also get excited about Dimensity. It beats the rival Snapdragon by hand in AnTuTu and Geekbench in all markers. In games we didn't have big problems in general with the pair of devices but the Redmi Note 10 can't always reach the maximum graphic quality, while the 9T has glitches in the Asphalt 9 due to failures with the Mediatek hardware. Being faster in our speed tests, the Note 9T scores the point in performance.
Both devices come equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery that lasts for a long time but TudoCelular's crown still goes to the Note 10 with 30.5 hours of total autonomy in our tests, an advantage of more than four hours over the Note 9T. Either way, these are two devices that should give you more than a day away from the socket without any problems and even with a much longer duration, the recharge doesn't increase the time – quite the opposite, the Redmi Note 10 only takes an hour and ten minutes to complete the process while the 9T needs to spend an extra hour connected to reach 100%. Light effect of the newer model's 33W charger power. As expected, the drum king scores on its main feature. There are two very similar sets of camera but with a fourth lens on the Note 10 the main one has 48 MP on each cell phone but with very different performance depending on the chip.
Combined with MediaTek, the performance is right in color and contrast but lacks in sharpness. The records are also very dependent on night mode and HDR to improve the results, and together with Qualcomm's, the photos gain more details and better colors even with background noises – the macro of both suffers from the low resolution and lack of focus auto blur and performs a little better on the newer Redmi while on 9T it ends up missing more often on clipping. The advantage of the 10 is the presence of an Ultrawide sensor to capture a wider angle of the scene even with a considerable drop in darker scenes. With a more versatile set and better photos, the redmi Note 10 gets the better of it here. In videos we have two sets that are capable of recording in 4K but suffer from jitter due to the lack of electronic stabilization at this resolution, not to mention the difficulties of recording at night.
The 10's focus is faster while the 9T captures better quality stereo audio. Each with its advantages. We have a new tie. The front camera is the best of both sets. Portrait mode works well, not to mention the photos have good color and sharpness.
The quality only drops a little more at night in both cases but the photos look more blurry on the Note 10. For videos the resolution is limited to full HD at 30 fps. In the North 9T details takes in selfies. Let's talk about the prices now, only the Redmi Note 10 was officially launched in the country by Xiaomi, for a suggested price of R$ 2,200 outside the partnership with DL, the model found in the Brazilian market for something around R$ 1,300 the cost is about R$ 200 cheaper than that found in importers for the Note 9T in online retail. Although it seems like a small difference, we know how much the amount weighs in the consumer's pocket, that's why the Redmi Note 10 marks the last point of the comparison.
The Redmi Note 10 won this comparison with a large score mainly for its performance in cameras, design and multimedia – but the Note 9T achieved important feats such in software and for having 5G and also winning in performance and selfies. Anyway, the cost-benefit advantage is still for the latest model, which can be found for a lower price in the domestic market. We want to know now what your opinion is.
