Yo dude Cairo here, so today I am going to compare the iPhone 12 Pro max versus the iPhone 11 Pro, not the max, because it doesn't matter because we all know that the 11 pro and the 11 pro max had the exact same camera. So it kind of doesn't matter whether you have the max or not. It's just the size, and we're not talking about phone sizes, we're talking about cameras and lenses for video photography and to just kind of cut to the chase. I did a review last time between the 12 pro and the 11 pro and there weren't too many differences, except for in low light. If you want to see the details, you can check out the video here, so I didn't notice that much of a difference between the 12 pro max and the 11 pro, except for these five things. So I did a few more things, or I tested a few more things than I did in my last video.
So I'm going to go over those five things and then the last one in this list of five things, it's kind of a surprise like. I don't think it's somewhat something anyone has mentioned, so I think that one's going to be kind of worth it to kind of stick around for all right. So without further ado, I am now going to unbox um. No, I wouldn't do that and waste people's time. It's exactly the same as last time, except the phone is just a little bigger.
I wouldn't do it: okay, fine, no unboxing, we're just going to dive right one. One thing that I did notice between the 12 and the 11, and I'm just going to stop saying 12 pro max versus 11 pro. It's just a mouthful so from here on, I'm going to say the 12 and the 11, but the number one difference that I saw was the color rendition, and I am guessing. It is because of the 10 bit HDR on the 12 pro max versus the 11, with 11 had more of a bluish tone, whereas I felt like the pro max had a lot more of a warmer tone, which is, it was actually closer to what I was seeing with my own eye. So it was weird that there was like this bluish tone, and it wasn't true to what was really there.
So the iPhone 12 Pro max had a better color and I think, much closer to reality than the 11 pro number two stabilization. Let me talk about all three phones and how they compare and share with you how I came to this conclusion. So in my last video here when I walked with the 11 pro and the 12 pro. I didn't see a difference in terms of stabilization. They were basically the same, but when I tested the 11 pro versus the 12 pro max, and I did a walking test with them, I did see a difference in terms of stability or shakiness.
However, you want to see it half full half empty, and you can kind of see it here, and I wish I ran when I did this test, because we might see an even bigger difference because there's no difference between the 11 to 12, but there was a difference between the 11 and the 12 pro max. That would mean that there is a difference between the 12 pro max and the 12 pro follow me here. So the reason why the 12 pro max is a little better in terms of stabilization is because ibis or skis, let's talk about what is ssis means sensor, shift image, stabilization and that right now is in the iPhone 12 Pro max. Only and this is very new to smartphones, and it is kind of the equivalent of ibis in a mirrorless camera. Ibis stands for in-body image.
Stabilization censorship, image stabilization, so sexy anyway, so the iPhone 12 Pro max has that, and it is making a difference, and I am pretty sure all the things combined with LIDAR and the skis is still stabilization plus, the 10-bit, like is just kind of everything, is kind of adding up, can't really tell which one's kind of kicking in and doing more of the work, but all that packaged together is giving you a better looking video. That's really all that matters number three slow motion, so I did not test slow motion last time. This time I did here were the settings that I used. I filmed in 120 frames per second and my shutter speed was at 240 to keep that 180 rule and my ISO was at 100 or 103 something like that, but I made sure both had the exact same settings. I was using film pro, so I had full control over the settings and here's what I found.
Furthermore, I see that there's a lot of noise in the iPhone 11 footage versus in the 12 pro max's footage. So if you're, someone who needs to film or likes to film in slow motion- and you don't always have the best lighting- that's when the 12 pro max is definitely going to help you out a lot of number four number five are sort of related to photo number five is about video and photo all at the same time. I know it's kind of weird anyway. Number four is about taking those portrait photos with the front facing camera. Somebody had asked me to test out the portrait video using the selfie, so I'm guessing, you meant to portrait photo with the front facing camera, and so here are the photos that I got between the two of them and, as you saw in my last video, if you didn't it here, it is again there is a big difference in the front-facing camera between the 11 pro and the 12 pro.
So that holds true for the 12 pro max as well. It's just the color and the exposure is a little better on the 12 phones, whether it's a pro or the pro max 5. So this one, I haven't, really heard anybody talk about, and I find that when you are taking photos as you are filming using the default camera most of the time that photo isn't the best. You know it's kind of a little grainy I've, you kind of learned not to do that, but I just did it anyway, just to see how it turned out- and I was kind of blown away by the differences between the 12 pro max and the 11 pro conditions were, of course not the best for the phones. It was blue hour, the sun was set, it was dark, and you know I'm kind of zeroing in on two people that are way off in the distance, but I was really surprised at how clear the 12 pro max photos were when I was you know when I was pressing that button.
As I was filming, I mean: don't you do that. I do that it's kind of like because you want a photo of it, and you also want to do video you're kind of being greedy. So luckily there is that greedy mode where I'm taking a video, and then I'm going to press, take a photo all at the same time. So there you go. Those are the five things that I tested where I saw there's a huge difference between the 11 pro and the 12 pro max.
Now, let's talk about whether you should invest and upgrade so, let's talk about it, so technical specs aside, and just really caring about how you film and what you're seeing so forget all about the technical things from the 11 pro to the 12 pro. Whenever I was filming in good conditions, I honestly didn't see the difference. So if you're, someone who's generally just filming in daylight, you're, just using the main lens, and you're not really doing anything. Super fancy with your cameras, then I'd say: stick to the 11 pro: that's totally fine, but if you're someone who likes to use the different lenses does film in low light, and you like to film with slow motion, and you also like to take portrait photos like you really, really like to use all the different features of your phone, then I would say it's absolutely worth it to upgrade to the 12 pro or the 12 pro max. Now the question is: should you go from the 12 pro to the max like? Is it worth the extra 100? Now here's the thing: it's not just the extra hundred dollars.
It's also the size of the phone and here's where I'm a little conflicted, because this darn thing is so big I haven't had a max since I don't even know, look that my 11 was a nice small size, and I've got this big old thing, and it doesn't fit. In my purse I mean or my pocket- and I feel like some of my pockets are pretty big if you're someone that really cares all about the features- and you know kind of like me, and you edit on your phone, which is what I do then the bigger size is going to be great for you, and so am I happy with the 12 pro max. I would have to say yes absolutely all right.
