Redmi 9 In-Depth Review - DAILY DRIVER LEVEL!

Hi guys it's Frankie from Frankie tech good to see you guys again, and I'm here with my review of the Redmi nine. Now guys I've been doing a number of polls recently asking you guys the question of which OEM is doing the best so far in 2020, but there's no denying that when it comes to the best price to performance ratios, Xiaomi and Redmi are by far delivering the most value phones that I've seen this entire year and this Redmi 9 is no different, and that is because for 128 us dollars, you have in this Redmi 9 a full HD display very similar to any of the resolutions. You would see on flagship phones and because of that, could this be the first sub 150 USD phone that I could use as my daily driver. So let's go down the laundry list, design, display performance, quick, audio test, I'll share some camera samples that I've taken with this phone, we'll wrap up with some pub g and let's see if this Redmi nine is all it's cracked up to be. Let's have a look, but first, let's look at what is inside the box. Real quick- and here you see the version- I got Redmi nine sunset purple, three gigs of ram 32 gigs of storage, but there are up to six gigs of ram variants for this phone.

This is the Hong Kong version. As you can see, it supports NFC lifting the lid, and here we have the sim ejector tool paperwork and in here's, where you would have found this CPU case pretty standard, transparent CPU case for the Redmi Note, and we have our USB a to USB cable- and this is the Hong Kong UK plug- and this is only a 10 watt charger here. That is included with the Redmi nine, so overall, pretty basic unboxing here for this phone design, 9.1 millimeters 198 grams. It's almost the exact weight of an OnePlus 8 pro. This is a large phone, and because of that, you do feel you're getting a lot of phones for your money and while yes, it is a plastic bag.

It has this really nice kind of ribbed texture, and it radiates out from this circle here surrounding the camera module. It makes it more drippy, and I really do enjoy that. Xiaomi has thought about this, instead of just making a glossy plastic back and this sunset purple is gorgeous. I would love to see this color in matte glass on more of Redmi's flagship phones in the future, and let's look around the phone here. We see the sim tray IR blaster on the Redmi, nine volume, rocker and power buttons made of plastic, but they're, pretty click bottom firing, speaker USB-C, which is a welcome sight at this price point and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack- and here we see a quad camera set up on this Redmi nine and there is a rear-facing fingerprint scanner which honestly is my favorite placement for these lcd, phones, pretty efficient and pretty quick fingerprint scanner and looking at the bottom. Yes, we do have a pretty sizable bezel, but compared to other phones in its price segment.

I think this is not too bad here. You see it next to the Redmi 10x pro, and it's only slightly larger and while the notch is a little larger than the Redmi 10x pros, it's much more gradual, it's a waterfall notch. So it's got a very nice subtle. Look to it overall, you could not get a better design for the price. With this Redmi, nine sure it's plastic build.

You do have gorilla glass three on the front, but I think overall Xiaomi has nailed the design for a sub 150 us dollar phone here in this Redmi 9. Display 6.53 inch, IPS LCD, and yes at this price point you know you're not going to see AMOLED, but the good news is. We have a solid LCD panel on this phone. Viewing angles, look really great, very similar to what I saw on the Redmi Note 9 and around 400 nits of typical brightness on this phone. But the standout feature here guys that they've included a full HD plus panel for the first time on a Redmi, 6, 7 or 8 series, just the numbered series of Redmi phones, and it makes a huge difference.

Everything is so much more crisp and clear, and it is because of that full HD resolution. I don't feel I'm losing any of the experience from what I normally have had to do with this series. This display is one of the best displays you'll get for this price point by far and here's YouTube playback on the Redmi nine. Yes, you have larger bezel and notch, but at this price point you can't complain and with a 6.53 inch display, you have a large canvas here to watch content play games. The audio quality is solid from the bottom firing speaker.

It is just incredible to think the times we live in. You can now have this large full HD display to enjoy all your content for 128 us dollars incredible, but the wins don't just stop there l1 baby on this Redmi 9, and that means you get HD Netflix on this global version of the phone out of the box and talking about performance, we have the hello g80 here a 12 nanometer process with three gigs of ram and there are variants with higher ram capacities. This is the only one, though, that they sell in Hong Kong and 32 gigs of eMMC 5.1 storage. But, regardless of the lower storage and ram capabilities, we still managed to get a 356 single and 1200 multi-core score on this phone and that's comparable to what you would see in snapdragon 660 phones for a phone of this price point. I think that's a real win, and he's here, 184 000 in an tutu a solid score, considering the price of this phone and as you can see, we are currently running mini version 11.0.4. This phone should get mini 12 in the next batch of updates.

But overall the experience has been solid. I've been very impressed with the performance on this Redmi 9 and yes, it is not the speediest zippiest phone I've used, but considering the price point, I think you're getting a lot of bang for the buck and the hello g80 is not a terrible chipset. If this was a 300 phone, I might have more gripes about it, but I think just for navigating and day-to-day use, this phone should do a solid job and talking about battery another win here for the Redmi nine, with a 5020 milliampere battery. This is another reason why I think I could totally use this as my daily driver, because this phone lasts easily a two-day phone here with this Redmi nine. We see a calculated screen on time of seven hours and five minutes, but I've been using this thing for the entire weekend and only last night did I finally want to charge it up just so.

I could use it more today and while it doesn't ship in the box, we do have 18 watt fast charging capability on this phone, we'll probably take around two hours to fully charge it. But then you have a two-day phone and I think that's a decent compromise to make at this price point talking about comms and connectivity. We do have Bluetooth 5.0 on board for this phone. Unfortunately, though, we don't have the latest Wi-Fi ac, it's only up to n here on the Redmi 9, but you do have wireless FM radio capability on this phone for any of you guys who do value that, so that is a plus and a nice thing to see at this price point, but hands down the key win here. In connectivity for the Redmi 9 is included NFC on board for a sub 150 us dollar phone.

You just don't see that at all, and that's just another reason why this could be my daily driver. I put my credit cards through Google Pay and because it is the global version, I will have no problems using tap to pay here on this Redmi 9. And now the audio speaker test bottom firing speaker on this Redmi nine, and we do have a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, I'm going to bring the mic down. Let's have a listen. What can I say a solid performance here for this Redmi nine? It's not the best speaker.

I've heard obviously not compared to even a Redmi 10x pro, but the sound is at least clear if not lacking a little in base, but considering the price point. Once again, you have a solid single bottom firing speaker a loud bottom firing speaker on this Redmi nine and talking about the cameras. We have a quad camera setup on the back of the Redmi nine, with a main 13, megapixel, f, 2.2 camera. We also have an 8 megapixel ultra-wide, a 5, megapixel, f, 2.4 macro camera, which is a pleasant sight and a 2 megapixel depth sensor and on the front we have an eight megapixel, f 2.0 camera, which is capable guys of full HD at 30. Fps, video, recording tremendous at this price point and a quick shot here of the Frankie tech faux plant, the shutter isn't too fast, but it's serviceable, and it does take some time to process the HDR on this phone.

But once you get the shot, I mean that looks pretty solid to me and overall, I've been very impressed considering the price point of this phone with this main sensor, but have a look at these samples and these video samples and hit me up in the comments. What do you think so? Um and here's rear facing video on the Redmi nine pretty gorgeous day in Hong Kong? But it is so hot today guys approaching 34 degrees Celsius here, just too hot shooting in full, HD 30 fps looks pretty stable, but hit me up in the comments. What do you think- and this is front facing video on the Redmi- nine shooting in full HD 30fps, pretty impressive here for the price of this phone and the quality looks pretty good, but let's hear the mics see how they sound and hit me up in the comments? What do you think- and here we are guys for some PUBG action on the Redmi nine? I'm going to play this at smooth ultra settings, no extreme settings here, but I was just shocked to see you could even get smooth ultra on a phone of this price. Let's go realistic, enable anti-aliasing and shadows and disable auto, just graphics, okay and let's get started, and it's time it's time for the classic. Frankie tech swim test.

Just keep swimming just keep swimming oh yeah, and at the plane jump with the Mali g52 mc2. The Redmi 9 is doing a startlingly good job. So far, let's get down to the surface. Get some guns get some action got some guns all right. Let's see if we can find some action here.

Oh, they're shooting at me already gosh, and I just had some serious connectivity issues here on the Redmi nine and this guy came out of nowhere. Take that boo, yeah first kill on the Redmi nine and when I was playing PUBG yesterday guys on this phone. I just said to myself that this phone has no business playing this game. This well for this price. It's incredible! Now, if you guys remember, I've had some issues in the past with these hello g series at 12 nanometers, but let's have a look at how this phone is doing so far.

CPU is at 56 41 fps, and it may be because of the plastic back, but this phone is still doing. Okay and it's getting pretty warm in this room. It's not cool to the touch, but it's definitely not hot either. Can I find myself a vehicle, let's get closer to where the action is? Oh they're, shooting at me take that booth two kills on the Redmi, nine honestly considering the price point, and I keep saying that because that's the theme of this phone, this phone has no business playing pub gas well as it does, and with the immersive full HD plus display. You can easily immerse yourself in PUBG mobile here on the Redmi 9.

So that's it for this video and my final verdict here on the Redmi nine. Can I recommend this phone considering its price point of 128 us dollars? Absolutely. This is the first phone price under 150 us dollars that I could say without a doubt, I could totally use as my daily driver, with a large gorgeous full HD plus display solid, build quality. And yes, it is plastic, but it is a beautiful back, and it's got that nice ribbed texture that almost makes it the first Xiaomi phone in a while that I just want to use without a case decent mid-range performance with this hello g80 l1 on board, solid, fingerprint scanner on the back very loud bottom firing speaker and a 13, megapixel main camera and additional cameras that don't actually suck the 5 megapixel macro is a great addition here and yes, it's not flagship level, it's not even upper mid-range level, but I think you're getting solid mid-range camera performance and, last but not least, excellent pub g performance. This phone has no business playing that game that well that, yes, guys Redmi has knocked it out of the park once again, and they are delivering an incredible value here in this Redmi 9.

It is easily the best sub 150 us dollar phone that money can buy, but hit me up in the comments. What are your thoughts on this Redmi 9? Do you think there's any other phone that can match it at this price point hit me up in the comments?
