Hey guys its crystal and as summer is coming to an end. I wanted to quickly talk about two of this year's best budget phones. Earlier this year, apple dropped the new iPhone SE, which packs an amazing camera, the internals of an iPhone 11 and 11 pro for a very affordable price at 3.99, and even more recently this year, google surprised us with the Pixel 4a, which also has an amazing camera, double the storage of a base iPhone SE at an even more affordable price at 3.49. So there's definitely pros and cons with each of these, but today I want to focus on why you might prefer one over the other, so right off the bat design wise. The Pixel 4a is definitely the prettier. Looking of the two phones, I really appreciate its sleekness and overall design.
The back is made of plastic, but it feels perfect in your hand. I also love that little mint blue power button on the side overall, from a design perspective, it definitely looks and feels like a 20 20 phones moving over to the iPhone SE. Definitely doesn't have that look and feel of a 2020 phone. Don't get me wrong internally. It's great.
It packs the same a13 bionic chip as the iPhone 11 and 11 pro, but when it comes to looks, it's essentially packed into an iPhone 8 body, so it just definitely looks like an older phone now. Something both of these do have in common. Is that they're, both 20 20 face masks ready with fingerprint readers. The SC has it on the front and the 4a has it on the back, and if you ask me which one I prefer the two, I would definitely go for the 4a, because it's just more naturally placed I could just pop it up and open up the phone and with this kind of have to fidget a little. I wouldn't say it's a dealbreaker on the iPhone SE because it works really well and ultimately, I'm just glad that I have the option on both phones when it comes to form factor, they're pretty much the same size.
The Pixel 4a is a little taller, but they feel basically the same in your hand. The Pixel 4a does have a much bigger screen, though a 5.8 inch OLED display compared to the iPhone SC's 4.7 inch lcd with the Pixel 4a. You do get those OLED benefits, deeper, blacks, and it surprisingly gets pretty bright, and even though the iPhone SC has an lcd, you also get some benefits. There too, it is even brighter is slightly more color, accurate and all in all, both displays look great, but you are going to notice those bezels on the iPhone SE. So if you want a slightly more visually pleasing experience and a bigger display, I would say: 4a is the way to go now an advantage with the iPhone SE and his glass back is wireless charging, and you just got to decide if that's something that you would really need, but that's kind of the story with both of these phones.
They trade off in certain areas like with the Pixel 4a again, 50 bucks cheaper. You get double the storage, a fast charger in the box, but that is the only storage option available for the Pixel 4a, whereas with the iPhone SE. If you wanted to, you can bump all the way up to 256 gigs future crystal here, since we're talking about design one more benefit with the Pixel 4a. Is that built-in headphone jack, which is something that we don't really see in phones anymore these days? So if you own a pair of wired headphones that you love, you can use them and even charge your phone at the same time without having to worry about adapters. Also, I thought it'd be really fun if I give one of these away.
So if you guys want to win one, it's your choice, just make sure you're subscribed and leave a comment down below with your Instagram or Twitter handle. So I can reach out to you and also, let me know why you prefer one over the other. Now throughout this video, I want to show you what video looks like on each phone in different environments. This is the iPhone SE and all in all, there's no hiding it. It is outperforming the pixel when it comes to video.
A lot of that is thanks to the a13 bionic chip, which brings us extended dynamic range, and you can shoot up to 4k60, so, if you're into video, this is definitely the way to go, and this is a Pixel 4a's video. It is 4k taps out at 4k 30. If that matters to you and while the iPhone IC is crushing it. When it comes to video, the Pixel 4a does pack a really impressive camera as you'll see throughout this video. It even has things that the iPhone SE doesn't have like night sight.
Speaking of pictures, both cameras are single shooters both rely heavily on software processing and, if you're wondering what they look like in an indoor environment like this, here's what the Pixel 4a looks like and here's what the iPhone SE looks like both are great shots. I would say the Pixel 4a definitely feels a little over sharpened, but I'm not mad at either. Now both phones do have portrait mode and both do a great job, but it is worth noting. The field of view is much wider, with portrait mode on the iPhone SC. If that matters to you so here's an example of portrait mode on the Pixel 4a and the iPhone SE standing from the exact same distance as you can see on the iPhone SE, I'm entirely in the frame where, on the Pixel 4a it's more punched in, and if you wanted to match that on the foray, you would have to physically move further back.
So those are the rear cameras. Now, let's take a look at those selfie cameras, while we're still indoors before we head out. I want to take some pictures in here and see how that looks immediately. I am loving the wide angle on the pixels. Let's shoot one of those first, I was even telling me to raise the camera for a better angle.
That is really smart. I also love how it tells you where to look, and here iPhone SE, definitely closer in. Of course, we also have the ability to take some portrait selfies, so I'm going to do a couple of those twos got that one and here we go cool now at first glance. Looking at these portrait selfies, the pixels is definitely wider and sharper. Once again, but before we head out, I also want to do some selfie video inside, so let's quickly record that at the same time there we go selfie video tests, they're both 1080 at 30 frames per second and looking good.
The pixels do look more punched in definitely a little more cropped, slightly less wide angle than the iPhone, so they kind of flip-flop in that aspect, but they look good. I'm also. I don't know if it's just a pixel screen, but it looks really bright on here. Furthermore, I have this light blurring right at my face and looks a little better exposed on the iPhone, but I guess you guys- let me know now just for fun. One more thing before I head outside: let's see how these cameras do with an indoor low light test, so let's turn up all these lights and take some pictures, starting with some selfies.
So, let's see on the pixel and iPhone also here's a look at a rear camera picture in that same lighting. Now, let's take a look at those outdoor photos and videos and as you'll see throughout these examples is pretty consistent in where the iPhone is slightly brighter, more vibrant in its colors and has incredible dynamic range and on the other hand, the pixel is a little more toned down, but still the sharper one of the two and delivers more detail in those darker areas. I also want to give a shout-out to these amazing murals that I captured, while making this video and also a reminder to keep speaking up, because the fight for equality is nowhere near over, so keep talking, make sure you're registered to vote, because every voice counts. Here's a quick little walking video test, both looking good, but this is truly where the iPhone SC shines when it comes to its camera. If you take a look at the sky, that dynamic range is doing an amazing job.
Also in the brighter areas of the video colors are looking great there too, and even though the pixel is holding up pretty well, it doesn't compare to what we get from the iPhone when it comes too low light photos, though the Pixel 4a is truly the winner here, because it has night sight. I took some photos in my very dark and dim closet and, as you can see, the pixel is not only better exposed and brighter, but keeps more information in. I even tried. Turning on the flash with the iPhone and yeah still prefer the pixels picture. I also went to twitter to ask you guys to send me some cool night sight photos or really any low light photos that you shot on your Pixel 4a and you guys did not disappoint these look incredible.
So there you have it iPhone SC versus Pixel 4a. There are pros and cons with both, as you have seen throughout the video and the good news is no matter what phone you pick up: they're, both pretty future-proof. Obviously, with iPhones software updates are always guaranteed for years and years to come, but google also guaranteed three years of software updates with the Pixel 4a, so you're covered there too, and let me know which one you guys prefer in the comments below, but thank you for watching. Don't forget to enter that giveaway in the comments, and I'll see you guys later.
