Pixel 4a Camera Test: Scary Good!

Hey, what's going on YouTube mike here from team very, and today we are back with another video on the Pixel 4a. Now, with the launch of this year's pixel lineup, Google has once again established third place in the smartphone industry, especially with the camera and photography capabilities of their devices. This is, of course, made possible by a slick combination of hardware and software which focuses on giving you the best photos possible at the price of a button. Now speaking of hardware, the pixel 4, interestingly enough comes with the same single camera sensor, found on last year's Pixel 3a, there's no wide angle or telephoto lens here, but at an affordable price of just around 350 bucks. You'd have to understand that google had to make some cutbacks with that said, however, the Pixel 4a can still get you great photos and, as such, I'm going to share some of my experiences with the camera, as well as some of my favorite photos captured on this device. As a disclaimer, though, there are some shots that my wife and I took in public places, and I can assure you that we were equipped with masks and hand sanitizers.

Now, let's get started now. One thing I've noticed most about the pixel 4 is that images don't tend to be overly saturated and colors are oftentimes balanced. I do like this, as there is a more natural feel to images and with good lighting, you can get some really great looking shots. Of course. Dynamic range is on point, but there are times when photos can look dull.

To be honest, though, I did take some of these shots on a particularly overcast day, so make of that what you will moving on one thing that really stands out to me about the Pixel 4a. Is this portrait mode feature, which is something that I heavily use on the 3a and continues to do so with this phone in general portrait shots are perfect, whether on the front or rear cameras of the phone and the pixel 48 doesn't have much difficulty processing a both effect with non-human subjects which I do like now. There are times when the edge detection on subjects isn't all that good, and this can get disappointing at times, although thankfully this doesn't happen too often compared to a lot of mid-range phones in the market which also offer portrait modes in general, it's a great feature to have on the camera, and I'm glad to see it back on the foray. Nice sight is another great camera feature on the Pixel 4a. So far, I haven't really needed to use the LED flash on the Pixel 4a, as Google has optimized the software to make the best of whatever light is available in extremely dark situations, especially when outdoors contrast is good in general, although dynamic range can be a bit lacking at times, so I have to admit that such good quality in low light photos is great to see on a single lens mid-range device.

Now, as for indoor low light shots, the Pixel 4a likewise does a good job of giving you good shots. Of course, there will always be limitations, and this can be apparent at times in the amount of grading your photos and as such, this is something to take note of. As far as videos on the pixel 4 go, I will be honest to say that it could be better. There are times when the camera struggles to adapt to the exposure and contrast available in a clip and the degree of lighting in your surroundings can determine how well your video ends up. Looking one saving grace, though, is the impressive video stabilization on the Pixel 4a, which I do appreciate, shooting a video while walking isn't much of a problem, as I do know that I will end up with good clips all right guys.

So I think we've reached the end of this video. The pixel 4 continues the legacy that google started with the pixel devices and their amazing camera performance. Of course, on a hardware standpoint, there will be some limitations due to the pixel 4's, affordable price, but for people looking for a no-nonsense android phone with a good camera, then the pixel 4 is definitely worth going for again. I do appreciate you guys for stopping by and if you like, this video or any of the other content here on team very, then your support will go a long way towards our channel. Once again, thanks for watching.
