Pixel 4a 5g - Real 1 Week Review

Can, a 499 dollar smartphone be worth it in 2020. Let's talk about it, hey everybody! I got the Pixel 4a 5g, and I used it for one week, and this is my own personal phone um that I got, and I'm going to tell you all about how I felt about this phone after using it for one week. So, first off, let's talk about the cost. This call is only 499 dollars um, and it's 5g capable now, if you're on the Verizon line, it's going to cost you 599 dollars just because of their special uh millimeter wave for 5g network um requires a little more hardware underneath as you'll hear for throughout the rest of review. I think that's a very good price um. If you had to use the 599 version, then you're kind of getting closer to the pixel 5, which is already at 6.99, so actually 100. It's up to you guys so for cause.

I'm going to give it a four out of five. So let's talk about performance underneath this phone, this phone packs a Qualcomm, snapdragon, 765 and six gigabytes of ram. So when I first saw six gigabytes of ram 2020, I was really worried about that. But, honestly it's not bad. I mean I haven't really seen too many hiccups with it.

So I think performance is running pretty great. There are a few minor instances where this phone does have some issues. I noticed some apps kind of crash. They hang up a little like this morning. I was just trying to use Venmo and for whatever reason it hung up, and I just had to close out the application and redo it.

Unfortunately, that only happened to me, like maybe three times out of the whole week, and it's not just memo. It happened with um YouTube as well, and you know various apps but like, like, I said three times in a whole week, so I'm not too worried about it. But it's unfortunate that I did experience that for a brand-new phone that came out just literally two months ago, so something to keep in mind, but overall, the six gigabytes of ram the processor, no issues at all so for performance, I'm going to give it a four out of five. It runs, it runs pretty good um only problem is like I mentioned. It hung up a few times.

The six gigabytes of ram might be a limiting factor if you're trying to hold onto a phone for quite a long time. Talking about the visuals. This phone has a 6.2 inch. Full HD display that's 1080 by 2340 in resolution, and it's an OLED screen, and it's very crisp. The colors are very vibrant um, and it looks good uh.

One knock that other YouTubers and reviewers have said that this is a 60 hertz screen and honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal um. It looks great, it feels snappy and unless you're really playing video games, you're not gonna, see much of a difference. So realistically, unless you're a nitpicker uh. This, I would say the screen is a five out of 5. So talking about audio, this phone does have dual speakers has a speaker at the very top, and it has speakers on the bottom of the phone.

So it is dual firing. It does get pretty loud, but I wish it could be louder and for that reason I'm going to give it three and a half out of five um. I'm going to play a video. You can hear it back. It may sound louder on camera, but you know maybe it's me, but I wish it could be a little louder.

So this phone rocks a 300 William hour battery. So the question is: can this actually last a full day uh, and the answer is yes. I use this on numerous occasions. One whole day, no problem it'll get me through the night, um typically around, like maybe twenty thirty percent, if I'm at a hundred percent from a very get-go from the morning and that averages around six hours or six hours plus on screen um on screen time so overall for battery, I'm also going to give it a 5 out of 5. It doesn't pack the biggest battery, but google knows how to optimize the hardware, so the battery lasts the whole day and honestly, if I ever got into a need where I needed to use the extra battery saver feature of this phone, I'm sure I can last another half a day when I'm only using the essential applications.

So obviously, with the Google Pixel phone, you have cameras. So on the back, you have two, you have one, that's 12.2, megapixels, that's the main shooter, as well as a 16 megapixel, ultra-wide um on the front you're packing an 8, megapixel, uh camera. And if you know honestly, this is the same hardware as the original pixels, but the photos still come out great. My wife got a new iPhone 12 Pro max um. You know, that's like 1100 phones and the pictures are comparable.

I mean you really need to have two pictures side by side and really nitpick at it, and if you didn't have that option, you would think the pictures on this thing are fantastic, which they definitely are same with. Video videos are great. I'm very happy to report that the audio from the videos are fine. I know the original pixels they're very tinny. This is the Google Pixel 4 a5g front-facing camera video test.

Stabilization is pretty well there are different modes depending on what it is and, overall I think the camera is a 5 out of 5. You know people knock it down for the hardware, but it works. Pictures are great and, more importantly, this is the last generation of the Google Pixel lineup, where google is offering free, unlimited, high quality photos and video storage. So as long as it comes from your phone from a pixel 485 g or pixel, 5 you're, getting that unlimited storage on Google photos, that's set to change on June, 1st of 2021. So for me that was a huge factor of getting this phone because all my photos are uploaded to google photos if it was to start counting towards my 15 gigabyte free limit, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to purchase google one very shortly, so that was a huge deciding factor.

So for that you know, camera great pictures, great videos, unlimited high quality storage on Google photos. That's easily a five out of five, so this is still a phone. So how does it work as a phone um? So some neat features that Google packs in here is the automatic spam call detection where it'll listen and if it detects it's a spam, it'll block it. You can even it'll, also listen and transcribe it on your screen, so you can see exactly what they said. It can confirm if it's them or not um.

So that's really neat. So the Google Assistant also there's another feature where you can basically have the Google Assistant wait on hold for you um. It is in beta mode, but you know I haven't, really tried it, but just want to point out there in case you know you're interested that may be a live. You know viable option um. Besides that phone quality is good.

The speaker is fine. The speaker surprisingly, even though the speaker is not as loud as my other phone, this speaker for call volume is louder. So that's a pleasant surprise call quality is fine, might be dependent on your service provider, but in terms of apple's apple's comparison it is works. As a phone perfectly fine, so for phone calls, which is a huge purpose of a phone uh, five out of five going through the build of this thing, this is 6.1 inches by 2.9 inches by 0.3, inches thick weighs in at 170 grams, and it's you know I. I don't really know what the weight of other phones are, but this is light especially compared to the iPhone 12 Pro max.

This thing is probably at least half the weight. That thing is a brick um, whereas this thing feels nice and sturdy um. You know this is only a 499 phone, but this plastic back. You know it's matte. It doesn't get a lot of fingerprints on this thing, which I really liked about that um.

I hate phones, our fingerprint magnets, and this is not one of them, so I do like the plastic um. You know some people say this is pretty bland, I kind of like it. Actually I really like it. I like neutral, I, like kind of boring um, so I like this minimalistic design. I, like it, no smudges, it's pretty cool um, the glass it's a little inferior is a corny gorilla, glass 3, so not the best, but you know just I'm pretty confident that this won't have too many scratches.

Furthermore, I do use a phone case with it, so I'm not too worried about. It provides an extra lip um. I know some people like to use their phones naked, but I, for one, prefer to use the case, so that will definitely help me out so in terms of build quality for the price that you're getting um, it's very good uh. You also get the fingerprint reader, which is lovely, because a lot of manufacturers are trying to use the in-display ones, which is definitely less reliable and especially at nighttime. It just shines a bright light in your face, which I hated- and this was just quick and easy- I mean I could just tap it, and it'll just turn on.

So it's fantastic um. Also, this one comes with a three and a half millimeter jack, so many manufacturers gotten away with it, but this Google Pixel 4 a5g kept it, and I appreciate that because there are a few times when I wanted to use the headphone jack one problem, I have with if it's at the top, so if I'm trying to plug it in and just use the phone, the wire kind of gets in the way, so I mean I'll take it. You know I'm glad it's there, but I just much rather prefer if it was on the bottom, which I think makes more sense. However, I think they didn't do that, because the way to bomb the phone is you got the USB c charging port, as well as the two uh downward firing speakers so for build quality. I would say this is a four out of five.

I have no problems with it at all. It feels it just feels good. It just feels good in your hand, so, overall, taking into consideration that this phone is 499 dollars for most people um. This is a phenomenal deal. Uh, like I said you know it, does everything you need it to do.

It takes pictures. Well, it does phone well, it does just applications. Well, um, I'm hoping the few times that the applications hung up on me, I'm hoping that that was just hiccups. Hopefully that's not um doesn't get worse as it goes along. Maybe a couple updates will definitely knock all those issues that I might have experienced out of the park.

But realistically this phone is exactly what you need in the phone at an affordable price point um. You know, I don't think you need those thousand dollar phones like. Why do you need LIDAR on your phone? I mean you want security. You got the um fingerprint reader, which perfectly fine um. You know.

So I think this is a winner. I don't think anyone would have any issues with this. It feels premium it. It acts premium in a way, but it tries not to uh. Furthermore, it doesn't have water, so it doesn't have the um IP rating for waterproofed um, how many people actually take their phones into a pool? I mean I would even if this phone was rated to be waterproof to some extent.

I would never want to take my cell phone into a pool or anything of the sort. Furthermore, I guess it's nice to have that kind of insurance, but for me, I don't see very many options where that could be a possibility. So for me that's a feature that I really don't care about. Um. It also doesn't have um wireless charging.

Well, honestly, wireless charging is slower, it adds more heat to the battery into the phone, so it degrades your phone even more, and that's also another peripheral that you need to buy. I never really understood wireless charging because you still kind of stuck to where that charger is with at least with a cable. You can actually use the phone if it's on the charger. Well, it's flat. You can use it flat, but you can't move it.

So I don't think that's an issue at all either. So overall, I think this is exactly what you need in the phone. I mean it cuts some corners, but I think the corners that they cut. It's perfectly fine, you don't need those extra gimmicks, so I appreciate that from Google um. So overall I would say this is a four out of five highly recommend it and honestly, just for the fact they get unlimited high quality storage on Google photos from anything that's taken from this device.

Still, I think that right there is worth it if you want to know anything else about this phone. Let me know I hope you found this useful um. Let me know in the comments what you want to see next and until next time. Thank you for watching bye,.
