Pixel 3a XL vs Pixel 3 XL camera comparison: are there any differences? By Mr. Phone

With, the pixel three AXL Google is bringing the same excellent camera performance to the upper mid-range segment, but you know what, when the phone came to our office, I felt there had to be some sort of catch, something that would make the more expensive pixel 3xl better than the pixel three AXL. But if you are like me and if you want to know if the Pixel 3a excels, camera performance can match that of the pixel 3 XL, which is a far more expensive flagship smartphone, then this video is for you. I am a shot from Mr. phone and in this video we're going to be checking out the Pixel 3a excels cameras against the pixel 3x else. Cameras and answering that question. phone puts out an awesome, new tech video as usual before we take a look at the samples across different categories. Let's take a quick gander at the specs, the real cameras are identical with the 12.2 megapixel sensor, with a large 1.4 micron pixel size and an attached F by 1.8 aperture lens on the front. The Pixel 3a XL has a single 8 megapixel camera, with an F by 2.0 lens, with an 84 degree field of view compared to the dual selfie cameras on the pixel three XL, essentially on the more expensive phone you get a primary 8 megapixel sensor with an F by 1.8, aperture lens and a 75 degree field of view, and you also get another 8 megapixel sensor with a much wider 96 degree fields of view and an F by 2.2 lens. All the cool features from the camera app like top short night side super resume and the likes are all present on the Pixel 3a XL as well. So what makes the pixel 3 accent relevant anymore? Well, the dedicated pixel visual code, ship that improves processing speeds and an icon.

Few times on the pixel 3 XL is absent on the pixel 3 XL. It was evident when I was shooting pictures too, but in all honesty, the speed difference, won't matter, and I will explain why, in the due course of the video, let's get to the pictures, I had the opportunity to shoot with the phones at the picturesque dodge exotica Hotel in Goa for most of my shots in this comparison, what we shall do now is show you all the pictures without the labels of the phones. So, let's start scrolling through the three wide shots of the gorgeous property that I have for you guys now, let's zoom into the pictures for individual details. So can you notice any difference? These are the exact same cameras and there is literally no difference in the shots, except for a miniscule difference in color temperatures that is not even noticeable to the naked eyes unless you pixel peep the pictures themselves. Look stunning as usual with great poppy colors and a deep contrast, II look that makes them look super appealing.

These are worthy of sharing immediately on any social media channel. The only difference was that the short times and the processing times were noticeably faster on the 3xl. But if the pictures end up looking anything like this I guess, we all can be a little patient with the Pixel 3a Excel. Can't we now most of the close-up shots will look very similar, so we won't waste any time? Let's just look at the regular crop and zoom into the close of samples. Now any differences, your spot can mostly be attributed to human error.

So, let's move on. You get the same exact performance on the Pixel 3a XL and the pixel 3, except on screen. You can now see my good friend and tech editor of men's XP, Akshay Bella. He was gracious enough to pose for my portrait samples, and this is where we spot the first set of differences. Firstly, the pixel 3 XL has a wider crop compared to the user crop on the Pixel 3a Excel I, first presumed that it was a difference in focal lengths on closer inspection.

You can see that it is actually a difference in digital crops. The pixel 3 Excel shoots at 1.5 X crop, whereas the pixel 3 AXL shoots at 2 X crop. Moreover, the face looks Pinker in the pixel.3A excels short for some odd reason. The color processing is done slightly differently. The edge detection and the level of blur are almost identical, though overall I prefer the pixel 3 excels, shot in the portrait mode, but the Pixel 3a excels, shot is not drastically different or anything.

The pixel visual core helps a lot in speeding of the HDR plus processing on the pixel 3 Excel. Therefore, whenever you shoot an HDR Plus image, you will see that the pixel 3xl invariably has the picture ready for you before the Pixel 3a Excel, but the end results are quite literally the same with a great amount of details being retrieved from the darker portions of the image in HDR plus processing. Now super resume is a feature Google introduced with the pixel 3 XL. This software based algorithm essentially uses a technique called dribble, wherein Google takes multiple shots at slightly different angles by recreating the shake of the human hand for each frame, and then it creates one single high resolution shot, and then it grabs in to the image accordingly. So what you get is a much better higher resolution crop with cleaner straighter lines and far little noise.

When you look at the samples on your screen, and we've been actually rolling through them, the results are near identical again on both the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a Excel. This is sort of becoming the norm. Now, it's almost just like you know: you're shooting, with the same phone in our 4k 30fps video recording test. The stabilization was on par. In fact, even the bit of jerk around the 0.06 mark is same on both the phones, the quality of sound recording is identical, ? and while it is good enough, it doesn't match the quality and depth of the sound recording that you get on. Phones like the iPhone 10s max or the Samsung Galaxy S 10, but I did notice a slight difference in color processing.

The Reds were deeper on the Pixel 3a Excel, creating a pink cast in the sky. In fact, the colors were slightly more punchy her. The pixel 3 Excel evidently creates a far more believable color palette for the 4k video, and therefore it might have a bit of an edge here right now, I'm shooting a video using the Pixel 3a Excel and the pixel 3 Excel. You can check for the sound quality, the image quality and the image stabilization as I pan around a little in this 4k 30fps video recording test. As far as slow-motion recording goes, both the phones can shoot 720p footage at 240fps and 1080p footage at 120 fps.

The quality of individual footage is shot by each phone is near identical, say for the color science. Once again, the Pixel 3a XL goes for the punchy colors compared to the muted, more natural-looking colors, captured by the pixel 3xl coming to the selfies. The picture captured by the Pixel 3a excels signal. Camera is wider, with the 24?mm focal length compared to the pixel.3 excels 28?mm focal length. Both the images look like they were captured from the same phone.

At regular size, but at a hundred percent crop, the pixel 3 excels, selfie is crisper and sharper. The same is true for the wide-angle selfie captured by the secondary 8 megapixel camera on the pixel 3 excel when it comes to selfie, portraits the edge detection and the background blur look the same on both the phones. However, once again the sharpness is better on the pixel 3 XL, the pixel 3 XL also has the advantage of applying the same portrait mode feature on the wide-angle camera. This could be useful for a lot of folks in a 1080p selfie video test parameters like sound recording quality and the image stabilization around power on both the phones, but, as usual, the color science is different on both the phones as well. The pixel 3 AXL goes for a Pinker face tone and punchier colors.

In the background, therefore, at the end of the selfie video, the Pixel 3a Excel tends to look better. Also, you get a wider field of view by default, but that is not an advantage because you can shoot videos in the secondary by Daniel Canberra on the pixel 3xl, which has an even wider field of view. This definitely gives it a major advantage: hey guys, I'm shooting a video using the pixel 3 XL and the pixel 3 XL at 1080p 30fps, using the front cameras on both the phones and the light is really harsh, and it's falling directly on me. I said turn around and pan around a little and show you guys how it looks. Alright, I think a major chunk of the folks watching this comparison would have been waiting eagerly to check the low-light performance on the pixel, 3a, XL, and I'm glad to report that there are literally no differences.

Just take a look at that low-light samples now, for the even better part, editor switch on the night side on both the phones da da immediately. You get an even more impressive shot, both on the Pixel 3a XL and the pixel 3 XL. The noise has been cut out and the algorithm has added more light than my eyes could actually see. Of course, it's not as good as the P30 Pro, but it is the second best. No doubt overall you're going to be super impressed by the Pixel 3a excels, low light and night side performance I also took a couple of selfies in low-light we only the pixel three AXL had better facial tone processing, but I feel that it has to do something with the auto mode.

Picking the wrong color temperature by mistake: Night side fixes the color temperature. It shows on both the phones and makes it far more useful for sharing on social platforms. The pictures closely resemble each other, so we are at the end of this comparison, and let me answer that question for you: are you losing out on a lot actually not even a bit the Pixel 3a excels cameras are almost nearly identical to what you get from the pixel 3 Excel and that's incredible. Yes, the processing time for pictures are probably slower on the Pixel 3a Excel, but that's not my having said that, there is one thing that the Pixel 3a Excel definitely loses out over the pixel 3 Excel, which is unlimited original quality uploads to Google photos, which is available only on the flagship smartphone on the Pixel 3a Excel. You still have only limited storage, which is the case for all other Android phones, in whatever price range.

Also, then done, though, for Google to actually match the camera performance of the Pixel 3a Excel to the pixel 3 Excel is a commendable field regardless, so I hope that clears your doubts in case you are looking at buying the Pixel 3a Excel, which, in my opinion, is a great smartphone in its own right and definitely matches the camera performance of the pixel 3xl until next time.
