OnePlus 9 Vs OnePlus 8 Pro! (Comparison) (Review)

Welcome back everyone, it's been a minute since I've done an OnePlus 9 comparison, but let's go ahead and compare the OnePlus 9 against the OnePlus 8 pro and see which device you should pick up. Surprisingly on Amazon, they are around the same price. So if you want to pick up either, one of these links will be down in the description you can get them from there and help support the channel. At the same time. Now the front of these phones are a little different and let me take one second to explain it. So the OnePlus 8 pro being a year older than the OnePlus 9 kinds of looks better, which is so strange to say.

You know the OnePlus 8 pro has that 1440p 6.78 inch, fluid AMOLED display it's a 120 hertz panel and overall, it's a solid panel for sure I've had very little complaints about it. I think this is OnePlus best panel. I think it's probably even better than OnePlus 9 pro they're kind of identical the OnePlus 8 pros panel is a very good, very slim, bezels up top. Even the sides are, you know curved, so it kind of feels much thinner in the hands, and it looks like it's almost even more bezel-less than an OnePlus 9, which is really cool a bunch of split on the top left and the OnePlus 8 pros panel is very, very good. I think it is better than the OnePlus 9, but the OnePlus 9 has a little of a smaller 6.55 inch. Fluid AMOLED display this one is 1080p, so lower resolution than the OnePlus 8 pro, but you still maintain that 120 hertz on the OnePlus 9.

, so you're really not missing out on a crazy big amount. But, as I mentioned last year- and I mentioned now in my earlier comparisons- I do feel like the OnePlus 8 pro is the better panel. You know, I think, even though they're the same price right now, the OnePlus 8 pro, I think, is the better deal just because of that panel. But that doesn't mean it's the better phone in every single area. You know they both have USB type c ports on the bottom, no micro SD card slots or anything like that.

On the back, they do have frosted glass backs on the OnePlus 8 pro, but the OnePlus 9 has that standard glass back, and that was something that was very surprising. I wasn't expecting to see that on the OnePlus 9. Another pretty big, you know change between the two is that the OnePlus 9 does have IB certification on the T-Mobile version. Only all the other versions do not have an yip certification, the OnePlus 8 pro. On the other hand, all the models have IB certification.

So that's a pretty big thing to keep in mind. If you want a phone like I mentioned, that has the most amount of durability in a way the OnePlus 8 pro is probably the device for you. In my opinion. Now they do have those specific camera setups on the back, and you know we have to talk about them. The OnePlus 8 pro has kind of like a quadruple camera setup, so it has a 48 megapixel, wide angle, lens 8, megapixel, telephoto, lens 48, megapixel, ultra white sensor.

Then a 5, megapixel, color, filter camera with the OnePlus 9 has that 48 megapixel wide angle, lens 50, megapixel, ultrawide sensor, then a 2 megapixel, monochrome lens to be honest, those type of smaller lenses, don't really mean too much nobody's really going to use them too much, but we're more so looking at those big heavy-duty cameras like the ultrawide and telephotos and the OnePlus 8 pro, I love the OnePlus 8 pros camera. I think it was very good. I don't think it was anywhere near the best camera of last year, but I think for the most part it was pretty decent. It also had that x-ray capability, which is very funny. You know they eventually removed that, but I thought the OnePlus 8 pros.

Camo is actually pretty decent. You could do 4k at 60. I just have the bigger problem with the front cameras, even on both of these. Both of these front cameras are only 16 megapixels, which is still a high megapixel account, but only 1080p on the front. The back cameras, I think, are great.

The front cameras are just not that good. You know they're tapped out at that low resolution, and I'm not a huge fan of that. We are already having 4k 60 on almost all these phones on the front. Sooner than later, we're going to be at 8k on the front whether we need it or not, and these phones are going to be very, very behind, which is very sad, the OnePlus 9. I think that camera is probably better in some ways.

I hope it's better, and it did seem to be a little better, mostly because you know OnePlus spent a ton of money on this camera teaming up with Hasselblad, and, to be honest, I think it probably is okay, like 8k capability, 4k 60 on that one as well. Furthermore, I think it's overall good, but I don't know dude like it's still, not anywhere near Samsung's cameras. You know, Samsung's the galaxy s21 perfect camera, the s20 ultra is still very good. The s20 ultra from last year is better than these two phones, that's another, pretty massive thing to keep in mind. The s20 ultra is also better than the OnePlus 9 pro from what I've seen so take it as you will, but that's kind of how I saw that camera compared to this one.

I think the back cameras I'll give it to the OnePlus 9, for maybe the quality being better, but I do like how the OnePlus 8 pro does have that telephoto lens. You know the OnePlus 9 doesn't have it, but you do have 8k capability on the OnePlus 9. It's another, pretty big advantage for both these phones, but they both lack the same 4k on the front. So take it as you will that's pretty much how to kind of see this one. Now moving on to the software aspect, the OnePlus 8 pro is probably going to last a year less than the OnePlus 9.

So keep that in mind. You are going to be getting a year less of support on the OnePlus 8 pro than on the OnePlus 9, and that is one of the bigger advantages for picking up an OnePlus 9. I for one, as I've mentioned before, I'm a huge fan of oxygen OS, which is the software that both these phones run on, and I think, if you're going to buy any phone out there, you know oxygen. Os is the better way to go. It is a no-brainer.

I do think there's some other areas where these phones are just kind of weird in. But to be honest, if you're going to pick up an android, you can't go wrong with either one of these. They both have custom, ROM support and roots. Probably out for them. I know the OnePlus 8 probably already has one.

So that's a pretty big advantage for both of these, but the OnePlus 9 is going to be lasting longer than the OnePlus 8 pro in terms of the longevity of both of these phones they're not going to be outdated anytime soon, but years from now you're going to start seeing that and the battery life department and the battery life department a little of a difference on both as well, so they both have 4 500 million power batteries so pretty much almost the same size. The OnePlus 8 pros is like a little bigger, but barely both these phones are wireless charging. The OnePlus 8 pro does have reverse wireless charging. The OnePlus 9 does not have that capability. So keep that in mind the nine pro has it.

The OnePlus 9 doesn't have it. So those are some pros and cons for both these devices. I think you're getting pretty much similar battery life. Maybe it's going to be a little better on the OnePlus 9, but you do have reverse wireless charging on the OnePlus 8 pro, but you're also getting a longer life span on the OnePlus 9. In terms of software, so take it as you will, but that's pretty much how I see these two phones in that area now when they get off with the performance, the OnePlus 8 pro has that Qualcomm snapdragon 865 chipsets with two different models: an 8 gig model and 12 gigs of ram option where the OnePlus 9 is almost the same thing.

You know Qualcomm snapdragon, 888 chipsets, but the same ram models, 8 gigs of ram on the base models and 12 gigs of ram on the top tier models. So, theoretically, the ram management on both is going to be primarily around the same. Doing differences are probably going to be in the speed and app opening and stuff, and this is probably one of the bigger differences. You know the OnePlus 8 pro is a very fast performing phone, and did I say it was a big difference. It's really not that big of a difference, that's what I meant to say.

These two phones are still extremely fast, even though the OnePlus 9 is supposedly like this, like lower end model, the OnePlus series right now it is still faster than a lot of phones out there. The smoothness of this phone is out there. It's a very good minimalistic phone between both of these, I feel like the OnePlus 8. Pro, though, is maybe just a little slower, but it's really not like. I hate to just kind of make things up like this, where it has to be a little slower, but if you're using the OnePlus 8 pro, and you're using the OnePlus 9, you are not going to feel like one phone is slower or faster than the other one when you compare them side by side to app opening.

That's when you maybe be like okay, like maybe the OnePlus 8 pro, is a little slower here, a little slower here, but at the end of the day, if you use these phones separate, like you probably are going to day, you are not going to notice that big of a difference between these chip sets or these phones and that's a bigger thing. I've compared the Qualcomm snapdragon 865 on many phones to their 888 counterparts, the s20s and some other phones as well. I haven't really found that big of a difference you know, there's really not that massive of a difference from one year generation to the other is typically that two-year part. It's typically that two-year mark- and this is definitely not one of those areas in my opinion, so I think when it comes down to the performance segment, both these phones are perfect performing phones. If you want the fastest one like no hands down.

No questions asked the OnePlus.9 is the better way to go, but the OnePlus 8 pro is like almost right there. It's like very, very close to the 88. That's in the OnePlus 9, so both these phones are fast, but the OnePlus 9 is just a little faster at the end of the day. So in terms of that that covers it up there now, let's go ahead and answer the question in kind of summing up this video: should you buy an OnePlus 9, or should you buy an OnePlus 8 pro now? If it was down to me to be completely honest, this may sound crazy. I would rather have an OnePlus 8 pro than an OnePlus 9.

I feel like that device is going to be giving you, I think, a better value per dollar, even if they're the same price right now, I would probably rather have a pro, but to be honest thinking long term, the OnePlus 9 may be the better way to go. For some of you now we're comparing the cheaper model this year to the most expensive model of last year, and typically, I would always rather have the most expensive one of last year than the cheaper model of this year, you're getting kind of more features on the 8 pro you're, getting reverse wireless charging. A better looking display on the front more cameras, even though you're getting higher resolution on the OnePlus 9 you're, still getting more cameras in the 8 pro, which I think is pretty important, you're getting USB on both. You know they're roughly around the same price, but you can find a pro for even cheaper than the OnePlus 9's right now. If you look not even that hard, if you look one bay, you can probably get them cheaper, but I think the OnePlus 9 is a perfect phone too.

You know there's really not a wrong answer here. There's not a phone like! Oh, I would way rather have an April for an OnePlus 9 like it's pretty tough, but I think I'd rather have an 8 pro, but with the 9 you're, getting a cheaper phone technically than a brand new OnePlus 8 pro like if you're going to buy it from OnePlus last year, so it's cheaper in value, which I think is okay, but right now they're the same price. I think a better quality back camera, even though the pro may have more features. You are getting 8k on the back of the OnePlus 9, which I think is pretty cool you're, getting a pretty good display. You know you're getting all these other things like both these phones feel extremely premium.

I think the April feels a little better because of the frosted glass back, so you can't really go wrong in either one of these, but, like I mentioned, I think I would rather have an OnePlus 8 pro than an OnePlus 9, in my opinion. So in terms of that that pretty much covers it up there.
