OnePlus 9 Vs OnePlus 7! (Comparison) (Review)

Welcome back everyone, let's go ahead and do a comparison between the newly released OnePlus 9 and the somewhat older OnePlus 7. Now the OnePlus 7 came out in 2019 quite a bit of time ago. So, almost two years ago, at this point, the OnePlus 9 is the new phone. And obviously, if you have to pick one up, I would recommend the OnePlus 9. That is a probably a much better phone overall, but the OnePlus 7 fords being a much cheaper phone is actually a pretty decent value. In my opinion, if you want to pick up either, one of these links will be down in the description you can get them from there and help support the channel.

At the same time now, starting off with the front, the OnePlus 7 is a little of a smaller phone with a little of a smaller display. So it has a 6.41 inch, optic AMOLED display, and it's a 1080p panel, so you're getting the same resolution on both panels, but the OnePlus 7 does not have any higher refresh rate, no 90, hertz or 120. Here it's just that standard, 60 hertz, and I think it's okay, you know it would have been cool had it had a little of an improvement there, but I think it's totally understandable, and I guess it's whatever you know it's not a big deal. You have that v display up top, so I still think it looks great. There really isn't anything super crazy wrong with this display.

It's just the display since then have gotten a bit better. So this one does seem a bit dated, but the viewing angles are great. It still looks pretty good and to some people it may actually look better than something like an OnePlus 9. Strangely enough now the OnePlus 9 does have that 6.55 inch, fluid AMOLED display too so the second generation of the display, whatever it is, it's also 1080p, but the main thing is two things: first hole punch display. So in the top left corner you do have a hold punch display with the camera, but you do have that 120 hertz on that phone as well, which, as I mentioned before, is one of my favorite things about this phone.

For 100 fact, whenever you can get a phone like this, that has this type of capability, as I've said before, I love seeing that type of thing and 120 hertz you're pretty much set for life. It's not really probably going to get any crazier than that, so you are definitely set when it comes down to that. For sure now you do have you know the USB type c ports on the bottom of both of these and on the back. You do have glass backs on both as well. So I think that's another really cool thing that you have again.

This is just a no-brainer, in my opinion, having that type of capability is really, really cool. Now, unfortunately, there is no wireless charging on the OnePlus 7, but there is wireless charging on the OnePlus 9. So I think, that's a know pretty major thing to keep in mind for sure you do have dual camera setup on the OnePlus 7, triple camera, setup kind of on the OnePlus sign, and I'll get into that in a second feeling in the hand they're both going to feel roughly around the same one isn't going to feel prettier than the other one, but I would definitely say for the OnePlus 7 being two years old, it doesn't feel like a two-year-old phone. It still feels and looks fairly new. So I think that's a pretty big advantage that you have on that phone where the OnePlus 9 is kind of.

You know it's a newer phone, but there are still some things that this phone may not have that some other phones from even like 2020 may have so kept that in mind, but that pretty much covers it up in terms of the body now hitting on the cameras. This is a pretty massive thing for sure between the two. So the OnePlus 7, like I mentioned, has that dual camera setup. So you have that 48 megapixel wide angle lens. Then a 5 megapixel depth sensor with an OnePlus 9, has that 48 megapixel wide 50, megapixel ultrawide, then a 2 megapixel depth sensor now between the two automatically the OnePlus 9 is the better camera for sure.

I will say from everything that I've messed with the OnePlus 7's camera UI seems to be better. The OnePlus 9's camera UI just isn't good. I am not a fan of it, and you know. OnePlus really needs to kind of focus in on and fix that specific issue. Now between the two, the OnePlus 7, they both have 4k 60 capability.

The OnePlus 9 can go up to 8k video resolution, which is pretty massive. Having that type of capability is extremely cool and, as I mentioned before, that's just an extra thing that the OnePlus 9 has going for it now photo video wise. Probably the OnePlus 9 is going to be better, but I think the main thing is that the OnePlus 9, having that additional ultrawide sensor is a really massive thing and that's probably going to be a dealbreaker for a lot of people, especially the 8k capability. If you get a phone like an OnePlus 9, you are going to be set for many months and for sure many years, probably as well. The OnePlus 7 may already start feeling a little dated.

So I'm not going to say that OnePlus 7 is a awful camera, but I have seen the OnePlus 9's camera. I've obviously used it and reviewed it and stuff, and it does seem like it's the better camera at the end of the day front cameras, though they're both roughly around the same 16 megapixel sensors, both at 1080p at 30. Well, I don't know what OnePlus is thinking. They need to improve the front cameras. They spend all this money on the back camera, but the front camera is still the same.

There's one area that I really hope post takes seriously, and hopefully they can improve that whole entire front, camera software, and it's just improvement as well, so in terms of the camera that pretty much covers it up now. Moving on to, I think another one of the bigger advantages between both these phones, the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 7- are both running oxygen. Os and I've said this for a long time. Having that type of you know software where it's stock and everything is beautiful. I love having that type of capability and I think for any case out there just having stock android is the best thing for sure now is it know beautiful? Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but it is pretty beautiful, and I do think if you're going to get any type of phone having stock android is perfect.

It just so happens that you know what the OnePlus 9 is going to be lasting longer than the OnePlus 7. So that is a massive thing to keep in mind when you get a phone like the OnePlus 7, it's gonna still be getting software support for the time being, but on top of that it does have custom ROM support, which is great, but you are probably going to be getting a better longer lasting phone from the OnePlus 9 and the whole entire software life cycle. That comes with that specific phone than the OnePlus 7. So keep that in mind, I think the OnePlus 7 is a great phone still, but the OnePlus 9 definitely dominates it in that area. But another major thing, and probably another huge difference between these two phones, is that the OnePlus 9 has a much bigger battery than the OnePlus 7.

So you have a 3700 William hour battery on the OnePlus 7, but a 4500 William hour battery on the OnePlus 9, and that is a massive difference. You have wireless charging on that phone too, and those are massive things to keep in mind. Having that type of capability, as I mentioned before, is a very, very important, and I think it's a no-brainer in my opinion, so this is probably the biggest difference between the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 9. The nine is definitely going to dominate the OnePlus 7 when it comes down to it for sure. So.

In terms of that, that pretty much covers it up there now ending it off with the performance. The OnePlus 7 had that Qualcomm snapdragon 855 chipsets, with six gags of ram on the base model, eight gigs of ram on that mid-tier model and 12 gigs of ram on that top tier model, where the OnePlus 9 has that newly released Qualcomm, snapdragon 888 chipsets, with eight gigs of ram on the base model and 12 gigs of ram on the top tier model. Now one thing that I've been saying for quite a bit of time is that with stock android you don't really have a lot of bloatware in the background and that's a pretty massive thing for the OnePlus 7. Even though it's a little dated you know it's kind of old a little, it doesn't feel like an extremely you know: powerful phone, it doesn't feel like it's a slow phone. I still think that it's a very capable phone for sure, and I think, if you're somebody who's going to be using this phone as long as you're, not comparing it side by side you're not going to notice how much faster the OnePlus 9 is now the OnePlus 9, the areas that I've been seeing it constantly being improved in are app opening speeds and the smoothness within app opening.

So if you're going to click on an app at the same time, I notice the OnePlus 9 is definitely far faster in a smoother experience than a comparable phone like an OnePlus 7, for example. But on top of that, the apps you know once they're loaded, they are a little choppier on phones like an OnePlus, 7 and 7 pro compared to the OnePlus, 9 and 9 pro so again. Another minor thing, I don't think it's a dealbreaker per se for anyone, but I would probably recommend getting a phone like an OnePlus 9. If you fit in those categories where you love smooth, app opening speeds- and you love- you know just having smooth apps in general, but the OnePlus 7 is still a pretty fast performing phone too. I, for one, probably would not upgrade from an OnePlus 7 to the OnePlus 9, just based off the performance, I feel like you're.

Getting kind of you know, you're, definitely getting better performance on the OnePlus 9, but I wouldn't necessarily go and upgrade to the OnePlus 9 because of the performance I feel like getting a nine pro may be better because of the bigger screen and stuff, but going from the seven to the nine for just for the sake of the performance. It really isn't worth it, but I would say, based on the software longevity and the battery life, those are probably the main areas I would improve on going from a seven to the nine. I think in this specific case, the OnePlus 9 is for sure the better performing phone. It's going to be faster, you're, getting more ram from the base models, and also with that 888 chipset. It's going to be set you're, getting a long, lasting phone from this thing, and the performance is pretty much only going to be getting better with the next couple.

Software updates coming out with the OnePlus 7. I still think for the price tag of that phone. It's a very good performing phone for that specific price tag, you're going to be paying for it and for it being two years old. I'm so surprised how fast this phone is for sure. So, in terms of that, that covers up pretty much the performance segment and to kind of sum up this video and say answer the question: should you go and buy an OnePlus 9? Should you buy an OnePlus 7? Should you upgrade your seven to the nine? This is pretty much.

What I'll tell you I think the OnePlus 7 you know, starting off is a very solid phone still. There are some areas within it that aren't necessarily the best, but I think, as an overall package and for the price that it's being sold for right now, roughly, I think it's a pretty solid option for sure it has stock android, which is beautiful. I love stock android as my favorite version of android that this thing is running the auction west version. I think that's awesome. Furthermore, I love having that type of capability.

The screen is still good enough for the most part, beautiful feeling phone it doesn't feel cheap at all. It still has perfect performance and there's still a lot to love with this phone. There are a few gripes with this phone which, as I mentioned before things like the front camera, not being that great, the back camera kind of being a little. You know missing. You know it's definitely not that great for sure no wireless charging, it's gonna, be ending off with stock software anytime soon, but it's going to have custom, ROMs and stuff which it already has, and the battery life is a little smaller than the OnePlus 9.

The 7 is still a great phone overall, but the OnePlus 9 does improve on it in a lot of areas, you know you're getting a better back camera, much better back camera. In my opinion, the front cameras are roughly around the same, but you are getting that 120 hertz refresh rate on the OnePlus 9, which I think is a massive difference going from 60hz to 120hz you're, getting USB type-c ports on both and pretty much the same on the outside, but the OnePlus 9 does have wireless charging. So that may be a big enough reason for you to go and jump from an OnePlus 7 to something like a one plus nine glass backs on both which feel perfect. Software is going to be longer lasting on the OnePlus 9. The battery life is going to be better on the OnePlus 9.

The performance is going to be better on the OnePlus 9 for the base models, you're getting an extra two gigs of ram. So that's another somewhat minor thing to keep in mind and I think for sure when it comes down to it, getting something like an OnePlus 9 is the better way to go overall you're going to be getting a much longer lasting phone, and it's almost like a no-brainer in my opinion, but if, for some reason you want to keep an OnePlus 7, I think the OnePlus 7 is the better deal for dollar, but the OnePlus 9 is a very solid phone still, and I would highly recommend it if you want to pick it up. The OnePlus 9 is the one I'd recommend, but the OnePlus 7 is still a perfect phone for sure.
