OnePlus 9 Pro vs Galaxy S21 Ultra Camera comparison

Can, the new OnePlus 9 pro camera rival, the powerful cameras on the Samsung Galaxy, s21, ultra, hey everyone, Vic here with phone arena and in the past week I have been testing these two cameras side by side, but before we jump into the photos, let's take a quick look at what cameras we actually have on board. So both phones have four cameras on the back technically, but it's really more like three useful cameras on the OnePlus and four on the galaxy. As on the OnePlus, you get a monochrome black and white sensor. That is not really useful for all the rest, you get a 48 megapixel main camera on the OnePlus versus a 108 megapixel sensor in the galaxy, but again in reality, both of them take 12 megapixel photos. Then you have an ultrawide camera on both, and then it gets interesting. You have a three time, zoom camera on both, but the galaxy goes.

The extra mile with an additional 10x zoom periscope camera for super long range, zoom shots, and let's get this out of the way immediately. There is no way the OnePlus matches the quality of the zoom from the galaxy. Just take a look at the detail here at three times zoom and then at 10 times, zoom, the difference gets even bigger by the way the zoom lock feature really helps in the galaxy just see the difference in the viewfinder between them and here are a couple more shots, but actually it's beyond just photos. If you look at this video, it's just ridiculous. How sharp and good it looks on the galaxy that is 10 times zoom on both phones.

But honestly, I wouldn't even use that footage from the OnePlus and just moving the camera around the galaxy is really an amazing zoom camera. Okay, I wanted to get this out of the way. First, if you want to zoom get the galaxy end of discussion. If you don't care that much about the zoom, however, watch on because things are getting a lot more interesting, there is a pretty big difference in the way selfies look now colors look more saturated on the galaxy, while the OnePlus captures a bit bleaker, colors washed out a bit. I do prefer the look from the galaxy here, but I also like that you can pick between a wider selfie, which is perfect for a group of friends or a close-up view.

While you don't have that option on the OnePlus and here is a selfie in low light. Honestly, the photo from the OnePlus looks just bad, while the galaxy photo is surprisingly sharp and detailed for such a nighttime shot. So this one is a win for the galaxy, and next up here is a video with the front camera on the OnePlus 9 pro and the galaxy s21 ultra, and what's interesting here, is that right away, I'm seeing the background has blown way out of proportion on the OnePlus? Oh, you can see the blue skies on the galaxy, which quite honestly looks a bit nicer and, of course you can also record 4k video on the galaxy. But right now we're recording 1080p on both phones and 1080p is the only resolution you get on the OnePlus. I don't think that's a big deal.4K doesn't really make such a huge difference for front camera videos, but it sells highlights that bother me more and also the colors notice, the paler colors a bit more washed out on the OnePlus, and you get more saturated colors from the galaxy, but enough with the selfies. Let's get to the main course shall we, the powerful cameras on the back of these phones- and we start this off with a few photos, just look at them for a moment and see which one you like better an is on the left b is on the right.

So what do you think by the way, if you enjoyed this video subscribe to our channel and click the bell icon to get the newest videos? First, okay, let's review them, and an in this case is the OnePlus. While b is the galaxy and both give you a pretty wide look, but the main difference really is the color science. So the galaxy is the one that stands out a bit more Samsung really likes to kind of amp up the colors and notice how it also has that warmer look to it well, OnePlus! Colors! Look a bit colder, the greens and the yellows are especially vibrant and warm on the galaxy so during the day photos kind of pop more and that's certainly not a super realistic look, but it's a likable one. Next, if you pixel peep and looking closer, you notice that the galaxy has this very effective noise reduction. So details look very clean on it.

While you do get a bit more noise on the OnePlus, which also, by the way, tends to over sharpen things a bit too much take a look at a few close-ups, and you can also shoot pictures at the full resolution of the sensor, which gives you a much better detail, especially in good light and here's the difference that you get between the two. Of course. This also means bigger files, so probably for the everyday usage, it's just better to stick with the default option. But if you really want to get that extra detail, go for the hi-res so most times, I would prefer the more vivid look from the galaxy but which one do you like better and next up. Let's take a look at a few portrait modes.

Shots and this one is funny because it shows that OnePlus can really mess things up. Sometimes I didn't look closer at the photo and only later realized it had blurred my jacket and instead focused on the three branches above my head, while the galaxy actually does a good job here and again in this wider portrait. If you look closer, the OnePlus has chopped part of my head off. While the galaxy again performs great and here's a portrait shot in low light, the close-up one is actually brighter on the OnePlus which I like, but on the wider one. If you take a closer look again, you see the OnePlus is really not doing a great job with portraits it kind of cut.

A part of my hat off. Okay and speaking about low light. Here are a few images we captured at night. Now the ones on the left are again a and on the right, you have b take a look for a second and think which one you like better well, an is the galaxy and in most cases, photos from it turn out a bit brighter at night and tend to look a bit better. In my opinion, photos from the OnePlus are not bad, but I do think there is often a green cast to the images plus oftentimes photos are just too dark.

Of course. Sometimes the OnePlus captures a better photo like these few pictures. I like them better on the OnePlus, so it really kind of depends on the situation, but I found the galaxy was a bit more consistent and this is a nighttime video recording with the OnePlus 9 pro and the galaxy s21 ultra. I can definitely see some difference in the colors here, and I'm just walking with both phones in my hands, trying to keep them steady, but you let me know which one looks steadier and smoother. You can also see the difference in the color of the sky.

It's definitely not as blue as the galaxy paints it. The colors from the OnePlus seem more realistic. Next, let's switch to the ultra white cameras here, the whole detail seems very muddy on the galaxy. Well, the OnePlus keeps it very clean, a huge difference in favor of the OnePlus. All right we've been talking a lot about the zoom and the main camera, but you also have an ultra-wide camera that most phone makers don't pay that much attention to and OnePlus says it has focused on making it great.

So let's look at a few nighttime shots with the ultrawide camera, and it really is a night and day difference. Let's say that in the dark, you probably don't want to use the ultrawide camera on the galaxy at all, while the OnePlus takes photos that look much brighter and are actually usable here are a couple more night shots. The OnePlus consistently gets the better looking images with the ultrawide camera and during the day, the differences in quality are not that dramatic and in fact the galaxy actually has a bit wider look which can be useful, but still in most cases the OnePlus has the better shot with more vibrant and lively colors. So, yes, ultrawide camera is great good job OnePlus, my favorite feature of the nine pro hover has got to be the macro mode. Both phones can do close-up shots, but the OnePlus is a bit better in this, and you can also capture macro videos that again look equally impressive as the photos on the OnePlus really great, and since we have already started talking about video, here's how it looks during the day and next up we're looking at the video recording with the main camera on both phones looking at that yellow building- and this is how the trees look on the viewfinder.

The galaxy does seem to have a bit more detail and the more saturated picture that looks a bit better, but let's also walk around and see the video stabilization here. It's excellent on both everything looks very smooth and steady, which is always nice to have next up. Let's also switch to the ultrawide cameras both can switch to the ultrawide camera and video, and this is what you're getting much wider perspective blue skies. Everything looks nice, but it's a chilly day now, let's switch back to the main camera next up. Here is a video test we recorded in the studio, which I found interesting.

If you pause this for a moment here, notice how the pillow and half my face are burned out on the OnePlus. The galaxy definitely has a better dynamic range and decent light, and next up here is a frame of the low-light part of the clip, and on this one I actually prefer the brighter colors from the OnePlus and once again, if you turn to the ultrawide camera for video, you get decent results, even in nearly complete darkness, with the OnePlus and just a quick word about that monochrome, black and white sensor, the fourth camera on the OnePlus, it's actually hidden deep in the menus. You have to open the camera, then open filters, it's the last filter. So most people probably won't even know it's there. Here are a few photos.

I like the look, but I don't think it's much different from what you get with any black and white filter. Okay, let's wrap things up. Do we have a winner? Well, here's what I can tell you. OnePlus has improved its camera a lot here, but I think it has become a bit of a victim of all the hype it itself has created. It has put the iconic name Hasselblad near the cameras and all that kind of had us all thinking that we're just about to witness the next smartphone camera revolution.

Well, let me say it: the OnePlus 9 pro is not a camera revolution and in most cases it's not even quite as good as the galaxy s 21 ultra, but it's the greatest OnePlus camera so far, and it comes very, very close to the best camera phones out there. I think that OnePlus makes phones that perform incredibly well they're, smooth nice to use and stay fast after years and with an almost great camera. I think that's an excellent combination, but if you really want the very best camera, it's still not quite there, so that is what I think. Let me know which one did you prefer the galaxy or the OnePlus. Let me know in the comments thanks for watching this and now's the time to hit that like button and subscribe to our channel to not miss another video.
