OnePlus 8 Pro - Unboxing in 2021 & First Impressions

Hey guys and gals Danny boy here, and today I have the OnePlus 8 pro to unbox here in the springtime of 2021, so this phone has been out about exactly a year, and I've just picked up a new one from OnePlus they've reduced the price here to 699 from 9.99 for this particular model. Now that the OnePlus 9 pro has come out, so I've decided to pick up this one plus eight pro and really my reasoning behind this. I was going to get the OnePlus 9 pro. I was very, very close to getting that phone, but the 1069 price tag was just a bit high for me. Furthermore, I really didn't want to spend that kind of money on it, and you know this phone here has some very good specs for 6.99. Now it's kind of surprised I figured they would drop it to 7.99. So when it was 6.99, I was like wow it's like 100 bucks less than I thought it would be. So I thought about it for a couple of days, and I'm like yeah.

You know I think I'm going to get the pros. So that's what I've done here. I mean 370 bucks difference here, uh. Obviously the nine pro has the next gen camera system. You know that's good, but this has a quad HD display.

This is the 256 gigabyte 12 gigs of ram uh model, which is pretty amazing. In my opinion, for 6.99 plus um, I got the ultramarine blue color, which I've always liked with that phone. So quad HD display 120 hertz panel. It's been a while, since I've had a quad HD display, I'm trying to remember the last phone that I had that I think it might have been the 7 pro about a year ago. I think that's the last phone I've had no.

Actually it was a pixel 3 XL, but haven't had as many quad HD phones. So I'm glad to be back in the quad room. I've never had 120 hertz uh display before I've had 90. If you know had the seven pro or 7t which I just sold, I had the 7 pro about a year ago. I sold that and then my Motorola edge had a 90 hertz, but I've never had 120 hertz uh refresh rate on a phone, so this is a first for me, as we know, with the eight pro here from OnePlus, they added wireless charging, and they made it ip68 dust and water resistant.

So this is pretty much the full package. Okay. So I'm really happy here that my only uh concern with getting the 8 pro here is. The curved display is, if you know me on my channel, I'm not a big fan of curved displays, but this phone now has android 11 and within the developers option you do have the ability to black out the sides on the curb display. Phones with that, I think it's called like waterfall effect or something like that.

So with that uh. If there's an issue with reading text on a certain app, I can always turn that on to get around having a curve display. So I do have a solution for that. If I need it- and I might, you know, turn it on and just see how it looks uh to use more often than not- I don't know we'll see, but with that feature I feel comfortable getting this phone really. That was my only concern because otherwise this phone is highly spec, snapdragon 865, all that good stuff, so I've gone ahead and scissored the tape on the box.

So let's go ahead and crack this open and see what we got going on here: okay, and that this is a whole other thing. Actually, there were a couple things in ordering this phone. The first here is: it came with the one plus bud, z. Okay, I think these are like 50 bucks normally came with them for free, so that's really sweet. You know some wireless Bluetooth earbuds.

Why not right this look? Really nice um, not sure that I necessarily need them, because I have actually a couple sets of wireless headphones. Some sorta like this and then of course, of course, my Bose ones, but still nice to get for free, obviously, and then the other thing was because I used the new OnePlus app. I think uh on my phone. They gave me a 30 off voucher. Okay, so really I only paid 670 bucks for this phone plus tax got the headphones for free.

I mean this is a pretty sweet deal, I think for the money. So let's go ahead and have a look here at the actual phone box here. So there's the box, another tall box, like my seven pro, came in- and I think my seventh well maybe the seven pro I don't remember. Seven pro 7t came in a tall box like this really nice presentation here, simplistic and just kind of builds up the suspense a little, so I'll, go ahead and pull this tab, and we'll get this baby open. So I've got the plastic cut here.

I'm going to lift the top and I will say just as a side note. I got the free shipping on this, and I ordered it exactly a week ago, and it took about a week to come. So you know I've gotten the paid. I think it's like 10 bucks shipping from OnePlus before, so that might be something you want to take into consideration. If you want your phone, you know fast, or you might want to pay, because I mean I didn't mind waiting really but um.

You know they changed the delivery date twice on it after it shipped. So that's something to keep in mind. It did take a little of time to get it with the free shipping. So anyway, let's go ahead and lift this lid up. Let's see what we got going on here, okay, so I got this all right.

Let's have our first look. I've never seen this phone before, so this is my first time ever seeing an OnePlus 8 pro in the flash. So oh that is sweet. Looking. I can see that blue color already through this plastic there.

I really like that. That's a pretty deep blue a little deeper than I was even thinking, so that looks perfect I'll set that off to the side, just for a quick. Second, let's see what we get in the box here, and it does obviously, as you can see here, come with a case. So that's real nice really like that. It says: never settle there! Okay, nice, it's pretty thin basic! You know CPU! I think plastic case here, but it's nice to have.

You know if you bought that it'd probably be eight or ten bucks so nice to get it for free there, if you consider it free and uh, USB type, c, cable and red, always the nice cables from OnePlus, and this will be our work charging brick, and I believe this has the 30t charging. Let's see here, yep so warp charge 30, I think it's the 30 t um. So that's nice, that's going to be a real, fast corded charging there still not at the 65 watt, which I think the 9 pro. I don't know if the 9 has that, but the 9 pro definitely has that. So, if you're looking for the faster, the absolute best charging, those phones have that, but 30 is pretty darn good.

I had it on my uh. OnePlus 7t had a 30 watt charging and that was perfect. So for me, that's plenty enough anyway, let's see what's in this portion here. If I pull this open, there's a sim removal tool right there just got. You know your usual typical literature, I guess um.

So sticker invitation, letter- okay, I don't know but nice, okay, so back to the phone here so this over here. So I'm going to do this again because it had the IMEI sticker on it. So I took that off and here we go. This is the phone here, and I must say first impressions here, really, really nice ultramarine, blue color. I really, really like this color.

This is probably you know. I like white phones, a lot um. I like the color red a lot. This is probably like my third favorite color I like, yellow but not a phone. I don't think I mean this is probably the know it's in the top of colors.

I think, at least for me anyway looks really, really sweet. Furthermore, I don't think I've ever had a blue phone before so camera hump is pretty substantial there, but that's good news. Furthermore, I think, because it means we got some good lenses there um, it is pretty thin. Furthermore, I would say, oh feels a little thinner than they normally feel. Furthermore, I would say it's pretty substantially thin here.

Um nice build here, um, you know pretty tall. Looking. Okay, do you have our curved sides they're actually not as pronounced as I thought they would be? Um they're! You know it's not quite as curved there as I thought it would be. So that's pretty good. I actually like that to me from my memory.

It seems like the seven pro had great you know, bigger curves than that like, but I'm going off of memory like I said it's been a year since I've had that phone so, but it seems like it's not quite as curved as that. So that's good actually, but really really really like the color here, and this is a quad camera setup. We got a fourth lens there on the side. So that's really nice um yeah, just really digging the look of this. The weight feels good.

It doesn't feel too heavy, but it doesn't feel light and cheap either um. Just perfect. Looking here I'll go ahead and fire it up, so we can see it there. It goes like I said: I'm pretty excited here to be back into the quad HD um, especially with 120 hertz display the best of both worlds. Right I mean especially for this price I mean usually to get something like that: you're paying a thousand or more, but here we're getting it for a perfect price.

Now, looking at this yeah, I would say that the curve is definitely less. I think than my 7 pro was and that's good news, because it's actually substantially less than I thought it would be, I'm quite impressed here. It's definitely less than my Motorola edge. The curves on that phone were way more dramatic than this um nice minimal, bezels here, and they're, pretty even there. So it looks aesthetically good.

It's not like the chin on the bottom is substantially bigger. It's pretty evenly proportioned there, which is good. I like it when they keep things symmetrical. I do love that hole punch for the camera cut out versus the pop-up camera. Furthermore, I had on my 7 pro the 7 pro the two things I didn't like about that phone was the curved display and the pop-up camera, not that either one was particularly bad.

It's just a pop-up camera. It kind of made me a little nervous, and I got kind of tired of it popping up every time I went to unlock the phone. Furthermore, it just got kind of annoying, so I definitely prefer the hole punch cut out- and I like this better because they put it off to the side instead of in the center. Like my Galaxy Note, 20 has it in the center. I don't like that, because it's a nice, or I definitely like it on either side, so really, really like that.

I can see the quad HD already going here. So let me go through this setup. Get my information in and then we'll quickly. Look at the desktop here. I'm at the desktop now just got here and everything's.

Setting up it's sinking all my data. It's looking perfect here, um now. I think I'm not sure if this has the android 11. Yet let me check here so, as you can see here and reading through this, we got the OnePlus 8 pro android 10, okay, so my understanding is android.11 is available as a software update. So what I'm going to want to do here is get android 11 flowing on this thing, but, as you can see, the camera setup here looks perfect here, too guys, 248, megapixels and eight and a five okay.

So I think this is supposed to have a perfect white, ultra-wide angle- camera, of course, 12 gigs of ram. I've never had that much ram and a smartphone 256 gigabytes, and I think this is 3.1 on the USB transfer. I think so. It's a fast hard drive there for transfers. So that's perfect.

You could probably even use this like as an external hard drive with that extra space, but so far here guys, I'm really digging this really liking. The look of this, of course it's doing my apps here so um, but yeah. I mean really think this is gonna, be good. Just going to have to get this set up um. You know.

I don't think I want the Google feed over here, so I'm going to have to see what I can do about that, but uh really liking the look of this so far here guys- and I definitely like that- the curve is not too dramatic on the side. So I think this is going to be a great phone um, like I said, for the money I just you know, I don't think you can go wrong here. It just seems like a perfect package for the price, so guys. Those are my thoughts here on my unboxing of the OnePlus 8 pro there'll be lots of videos coming on this phone, as always, if you're enjoying my videos be sure to subscribe to the channel and then, of course, hitting that thumbs up button, there helps out as well, but for now guys peace out.
