OnePlus 3T vs Pixel XL Camera Comparison

Hey Guys Its Sagar From Tecworkz. In this video we will try to find out, how does the slightly improved camera on the OnePlus 3T performs against that of the Pixel XL. Before we get started, make sure to hit that subscribe button, if you don't want to miss out on any of the amazing upcoming videos on this channel. Now, lets start by getting the specs out of the way. On the OnePlus 3T, You get a 16 Megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0, optical image stabilisation and a single LED flash. While on the Pixel XL the rear camera has a 12.3 megapixel sensor with f/2.0 Aperture, Electronic stabilisation, and dual LED flash. For the front facing camera, OnePlus 3T again packs in a 16 megapixel sensor, with an aperture of f/2.0, whereas the Pixel XL has a 8 megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.4. I have already covered, ways to get to the camera app and the actual interface of the camera app on both these devices, in their respective camera reviews.

I will leave cards to those videos on the top right corner of the screen, if you guys would like to check them out. Now lets Quickly Move on to the image and video samples from these devices. All of these images have been shot in auto mode with Auto HDR enabled. Both smartphones have no problem taking good images in bright daylight conditions. When you take a closer look, Images from the Pixel XL show vibrant colours, better contrast and overall better dynamic range.

zooming in on any of the images, pixel manages to capture detailed sharper images compared to the OnePlus 3T. We have enabled the Auto HDR mode on both these phones, and the one on Pixel XL kicks in more often than that on the OnePlus 3T. Just look at how good the image with HDR looks. And ya towards the corner of this image from Pixel, you can clearly see the lens flare. It doesnt appear too often, atleas in the images that I took, so we wont worry too much about it.

This is an indoor shot where the HDR kicked in on both the cameras. Both have done a good job at preserving the highlights, but the Pixel went in a step further and brought out more details in the shadows. As we move to artificial lighting conditions, 3T tends to capture a bit warmer colours then the Pixel. Both the phones capture a bit of noise, but the sharper images from the Pixel, look better. In very low lighting situations, the HDR plus mode on the Pixel makes the image brighter, but also ends up capturing a lot of noise.

With or without the HDR mode, both phones capture a lot of noise in low light, but The OnePlus 3T has a trick to take better images in these situations. It has a HQ mode, which delivers a much cleaner image. The image is not as sharp as I would want it to be, but the noise levels are largely reduced in this mode, so it looks good. Coming to the front facing camera, The 8 megapixel sensor on the Pixel captures a much wider dynamic range. But the 16 megapixel sensor on the OnePlus 3T captures more details.

When we look at the video performance, colours and the overall quality from both devices is good. Electronic stabilisation on the Pixel does a slightly better job, but as you tilt or pan, the video stutters a bit. Even with this problem, I ended up using the Pixel XL more while taking videos, because the overall video from it looks better. So in most of the conditions Pixel XL captures better images and videos, but the OnePlus 3T isn't bad or too far behind. Pixel XL definitely has a better camera.

So if price is not an issue and you want to pick between these to smartphones based on camera alone, Pixel is the One to get. On the other hand, OnePlus 3T costs less than half of what the Pixel XL does, and its camera performance is not too far behind in this comparison. So if you are purely looking from a perspective of price to performance ratio, go with the OnePlus 3T. Well, That is it for this video guys. Let me know your thoughts about the camera on both these devices, in the comments section.
